The smallest of all the swans and a very vocal bird, similar to the whooper swan but is slightly more stocky looking with a goose like shape and with a shorter yellow bill patch. Named after the naturalist Thomas Bewick. Any swan with yellow on the base of the bill will be a migrant to western Europe, i.e. Bewick's and Whooper.
Vibrant, varied and vocal, bee-eaters are perennial favourites with birdwatchers. The red-throated bee-eater is a colonial species, nesting in groups and remaining in the nesting area all year round.
Size: Grows to about 20 to 22 cm in length.

The Carolina Wren is easily recognized by the white stripe above each eye and its distinctive "tail-up" posture that it assumes as it flits about the bushes. Energetic and vocal this little wren has one of the loudest songs of any small bird. Males sing their “tea-kettle-tea-kettle-tea-kettle-tea." song hundreds of times a day, all year long. One particularly busy bird was recorded singing almost 3,000 times in a single day!
Carolina wrens form lifelong pair bonds and pairs often stay together for years. The birds move and feed together, where you see one, you will usually see its mate foraging close by. The pair works together to build a nest, which can be in a tree hole or on a branch, but Carolina wrens are well known for choosing to nest in man made structures such as mail boxes, door wreaths, flower pots, or even a cardboard box in a garage. They use sticks, hair, feathers, and anything that looks suitable—even shed snake skins. They often build multiple nests then select one to raise their chicks.
When feeding, a Carolina wren hops around on the ground and in the underbrush turning over dead leaves, and probing cracks and crannies for spiders, insects and larvae. They also eat fruit and berries, but rarely come to bird feeders.
I found this one in my backyard in Polk County, Florida.
Alex is an actor, singer, composer and photographer, who brings you new tunes wrapped in old time feeling. He sounds like Sinatra; his mannerism is also from the 1950s-60s. I have seen him treating his numerous fans, who range from twentysomething to seventysomething, with kindness and respect. The vocalist was nominated for 2022 Juno Award. (Canadian Grammy). His band the 'Jazz Mavericks' include Jacob Gorzhaltsan-sax, Ewen Farncombe-piano, Daniel Botos-drums and Ben Dwyer on bass. At 'Tapestry' on the day it opened under new ownership.

Sharon Jones was battling pancreatic cancer, undergoing treatment, but still came to Toronto and gave an unbelievable performance. I did not know about her sickness; I found out just prior her concert. She was visibly in pain and suffering, but on the stage, she was a different person; Dynamic and clearly the most energetic person on the stage. Miss Sharon Jones voice retained full power and for the encore, she invited the audience to sing and dance with her on the stage! Raised in Brooklyn, prior to becoming a singer, she worked such jobs as armored car guard for Wells Fargo and a corrections officer at Rikers Island prison. Sharon was really loved by her band and fans. She toured and performed tirelessly until he death, later that year (2016) at 60.

Unmistakable thrasher-like species found in lowland marshy habitats from extreme eastern Panama to northern Argentina. Dark brown upperparts (blacker on the head) and buffy underparts with staring yellow eye, white wing patch, and large white tips on tail. Often vocal and conspicuous; pairs perch in the open and give loud ringing calls and harsh chatter.
There is only one species of Donacobius, and it is in a family all of on its own.

MACEO PARKER brought his high energy show to Markham. For the last 30 years this well known saxophonist leads his own band and way before that, he was a sideman with JAMES BROWN with his brother Melvin. On the world stages now about 60 years, he did not loose his spark and zest. One of the legendary jazz performers, he describes him self as 2% jazz and 98% funk. He collaborated often with Ray Charles and Prince, recorded with Anni diFranco, Westdeutscher Rundfunk Big Band, George Clinton and others. He was a headliner of 2013 Markham Jazz fest, and even Funk is not on my preferred list, it was an show, I was glad, I did not miss.
Maceo Parker and his band at the Markham Jazz Festival 2013 in Unionville: Maceo Parker / saxophone; Will Boulware / keyboards; Bruno Speight / guitar; Rodney "Skeet" Curtis / bass; Marcus Parker (nephew) / drums; vocals and trumpet. There was also a backup singer from the audience, who looked like she definitely belongs!

It is a bird in the honeyeater family, and endemic to Australia. It is grey, with a black head, orange-yellow beak and feet, a distinctive yellow patch behind the eye and white tips on the tail feathers. It's a vocal species with a large range of songs, calls, scoldings and alarms, and almost constant vocalisations. They are gregarious and territorial; they forage, bathe, roost, breed and defend territory communally.
The noisy miner is a large honeyeater, 24–28 centimetres (9.4–11.0 in) in length, with a wingspan of 36–45 centimetres (14–18 in), and weighing 70–80 grams (2.5–2.8 oz). Male, female and juvenile birds all have similar plumage: grey on the back, tail and breast, and otherwise white underneath, with white scalloping on the nape and hind-neck, and on the breast; off-white forehead and lores; a black band over the crown, bright orange-yellow bill, and a distinctive patch of yellow skin behind the eye; a prominent white tip to the tail; a narrow olive-yellow panel in the folded wing; and orange-yellow legs and feet. A juvenile can be distinguished by softer plumage, a brownish tinge to the black on its head and the grey on its back, and a duller, greyish-yellow skin-patch behind the eye.
The noisy miner is a gregarious species, and the birds are rarely seen singly or in twos; they forage, move and roost in colonies that can consist of several hundred birds
The noisy miner does not use a stereotyped courtship display; displays can involve 'driving', where the male jumps or flies at the female from 1–2 metres (3.3–6.6 ft) away, and if she moves away he pursues her aggressively.
The noisy miner primarily eats nectar, fruit, and insects, and occasionally it feeds on small reptiles or amphibians.

Analamazaotra Special Reserve, Andasibe, Madagascar
After returning to the capital, the final part of our tour took us east to the reserves around Andasibe that combine the forests of Mantadia National Park with the Analamazoatra Special Reserve.
These rainforests are home of the Indri, the largest and most vocal of the lemurs, famed for their haunting song that radiates through the rainforest and can be heard over 2 miles away.
Fun Fact :: part 3
Beagles are known for being very vocal, with barking, baying and howling. According to Paw Nation:
"In fact, it is believed the name 'Beagle' comes the Middle French 'bee gueule,' literally 'wide throat,' but more poetically translated as 'loudmouth.'"
The couple and their dog walk up and down our street every single morning. And every single morning he barks at them. They wave and smile at me as I try to persuade him to stop, no doubt thinking they were smart to get a lab.
