The Italianate style of architecture was a distinct 19th-century phase in the history of Classical architecture. In the Italianate style, the models and architectural vocabulary of 16th-century Italian Renaissance architecture, which had served as inspiration for both Palladianism and Neoclassicism, were synthesised with picturesque aesthetics. The style of architecture that was thus created, though also characterised as "Neo-Renaissance", was essentially of its own time.

Ugo Rondinone - Vocabulary of Solitude

Something strange happens every time you look at Rondinone’s art. He gives everyday motifs and images a poetic dimension by isolating or enlarging them. On the floor of the 1500m2 Bodon Galleries visitors will move between life-size clown figures. With titles in the present tense, such as be, breathe, remember, feel and yawn, the clowns in the exhibition represent a 24-hour day in the life of an individual.

You can explore the magical world of Ugo Rondinone in Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen till May 29.

“Sanskrit has 96 words for love; ancient Persian has 80, Greek three, and English only one. This is indicative of the poverty of awareness or emphasis that we give to that tremendously important realm of feeling. Inuits have 30 words for snow, because it is a life-and-death matter to them to have exact information about the element they live with so intimately. If we had a vocabulary of 30 words for love ... we would immediately be richer and more intelligent in this human element so close to our heart. An Inuit probably would die of clumsiness if he had only one word for snow; we are close to dying of loneliness because we have only one word for love. Of all the Western languages, English may be the most lacking when it comes to feeling.”

Robert Johnson, “The Fisher King and the Handless Maiden“

96 WORDS FOR LOVE

Ninety-six words for love

but only one that I can see

how do we fill our hearts

how do we fulfil our destinies

with only one word for love

Ninety-six words for love

love stretches as far as the eye can see

how do we reach the ocean depths

how do we touch the turqouise sky

with only one word for love

Ninety-six words for love

I counted them in my heart you see

how do I say to you in only one word

how to protect you like a fragile bird

with only one word for love

Ninety-six words for love

all them I give to you

how do I tell you; I will try to learn Sanskrit

how will you tell me; will you teach me to read Sanskrit

with all ninety-six words for love

Ninety-six words for love

when there is no need for so many

all that I am I give to you

all that I have I give to you

with only one word for love

Ninety-six words for love

in Greek there's only three

one for you and one for me

one for everyone to see

only three words for love

Ninety-six words for love

no need for another ninety-three

I'll teach you Greek morning noon and night

I'll tell you I love you three times a night

with all my three words for love

Ninety-six words for love

when I read it in your eyes

when I hear it in your sighs

when our hearts and souls are entwined and tied

who needs ninety-six words for love.

Just a little fun poem inspired by my good friend Himadri (Happy Anniversary and get better soon!), who also supplied me with the quotation and whose English is so much better than my Sanskrit and of course, grateful thanks to Robert Johnson : 0) No doubt my good friend, Kostas, will revise the quotation for me since I now have learned there are 6 words for love in Greek!! Humph! So now I have to learn another 3 and revise my poem!!! ; 0)

p.s. I will be away one more day from home than previously anticipated, so by tomorrow evening! See you all very soon! X

Orcen vocabulary was not particularly large or sophisticated. They did not have a word for patience, for example. Their closest equivalent was the word “B’arrr’Kek” which meant, literally, ‘to delay violence due to inconvenient circumstances.”

The benefits of reading to children include helping them build language skills, learn about the world, improves concentration, empathy and emotional awareness. It gives parents the ability to bond and cuddle with their children, and to discuss the varying subjects of the book. Reading creates an environment to question and learn together, it increases children's curiosity, creativity, knowledge, imagination, and their vocabulary.

With heartfelt and genuine thanks for your kind visit. Have a wonderful and beautiful day, be well, keep your eyes open, appreciate the beauty surrounding you, enjoy creating, stay safe and laugh often! ❤️❤️❤️

Gloria comes from the Latin vocabulary word meaning “glory”. Glory is essentially the prestige, respect, admiration and honor that is given to one who achieves something of importance and praiseworthy. It also connotes a sense of sublime beauty which inspires great wonder or joy (a “glorious” sunset, for instance).

When I was born, my parents told me that they want to name me Victoria but my grandfather( Mom's Dad), told them that he wants Gloria instead because I was born two days before Christmas. It reminded him of the hymn "Gloria in excelsis Deo." Victoria is a calendar name for the month of December which is a beautiful name as well.

This personalized necklace was made by my daughter as one of my gifts for my birthday.

Have a wonderful weekend and Happy month of August everyone!💝

Thank you for your visits, kind comments, awards and faves. Always greatly appreciated.

There is a whole new vocabulary being developed now, through trends, youth, social media and evolving technology.

Finesse is one such new word and it means: To perfect or smooth things out, both visually and emotionally. Also when someone carries themselves with extreme elegance and style.

The cyclamen commonly sold by florists is Cyclamen persicum, which is frost-tender.

Selected cyclamen cultivars can have white, bright pink, red or purple flowers. While flowering, florists' cyclamens should be kept below 20 °C (68 °F), with the night time temperatures preferably between 6.5 °C to 15 °C (44 °F to 59 °F).

Temperatures above 20 °C (68 °F) may induce the plant to go dormant.

I tried a ‘different’ composition.

Cyclamen are native to the Mediterranean region from Spain east to Iran, and also in northeast Africa south to Somalia.

“I dream of lost vocabularies that might express some of what we no longer can.”

These are not dream birds of Twitchers' vocabulary and book.

“The term (political correctness) first appeared in Marxist-Leninist vocabulary following the Russian Revolution of 1917. At that time it was used to describe adherence to the policies and principles of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (that is, the party line).” – Encyclopedia Britannica

The communists killed millions and millions of their people in order to create a utopian society based on equality. In communism, one must be “politically correct.” If you say something wrong you might disappear in the night, never to be seen again. Of course, self-censorship and voluntary compliance are preferred by the regime. Indoctrination keeps an individual within the proper ideological bounds of the state.

“Restriction of free thought and free speech is the most dangerous of all subversions. It is the one un-American act that could most easily defeat us.” – William Douglas

Many cannot recognize the threat of censorship, because they are ignorant of the crimes of communism. The public is more aware of the atrocities of the Nazis, as opposed to the atrocities of the communists. This is what happens when universities are bastions of Marxism, and professors are fond of Karl Marx. (Karl Marx and Frederick Engels wrote The Communist Manifesto). My grandpa, who went through the Great Depression, used to say, “People go to university to become socialists.” So this stuff is nothing new! This is what leftists call the “long march through the institutions.” The plan was to infiltrate the institutions of the West in order to transform them from the inside out. The Long March of the 1960s sowed the doctrines of critical theory (neo-Marxism). (Critical theory came out of the Frankfurt School). These seeds produced various kinds of critical theory: critical race theory, queer theory, postcolonial/decolonial theory, feminist theory, critical environmental theory, and critical pedagogy. Our children are being taught these subversive ideologies, even though they are rooted in evil. The fruits of these ideologies have produced mass death and misery. They gave us Stalin’s Great Purges and Mao’s Great Leap Forward. Indeed, the communists regulated speech, and millions died.

“Censorship reflects a society’s lack of confidence in itself. It is a hallmark of an authoritarian regime.” – Potter Stewart

Regulating hate speech is undemocratic; it is rooted in totalitarianism. Regulating hate speech is a way of enforcing the politically correct doctrine of the day. It suppresses free speech, and it suppresses open dialogue. It suppresses critical thinking, and it suppresses creativity. And it will eventually lead to the criminalization of ideological opposition.

“Misinformation, disinformation, hate speech and other risks to the information ecosystem are fueling conflict, threatening democracy and human rights, and undermining public health and climate action.” – United Nations

The West is losing its freedom of speech. People in England are being arrested for social media posts. In Germany, they are trying to ban a political party. We saw Western governments colluding with big tech to censor dissenting views during COVID-19. Various politicians want to fight misinformation and disinformation. The European Union also wants to crackdown on what it deems as misinformation and disinformation. What they are doing, however, is fighting against freedom of speech—against freedom.

“The proliferation of misinformation and disinformation threatens to erode the credibility of public institutions and limit their capacity to implement policies that enhance public well-being.” – World Bank

When central bank digital currencies and social credit scores are implemented, you better watch what you say or do. If you say or do the wrong thing, you will have your money frozen. You will be like the Canadian truckers, who had their bank accounts frozen during COVID-19. With quantum computing, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data-driven technologies, a surveillance apparatus is being built. This Beast system will be an authoritarian dystopia like the world has never known.

“In this case wisdom is needed: Let the person who has understanding calculate the total number of the beast, because it is a human total number, and the sum of the number is 666.” – Revelation 13:18

Today’s vocabulary builder is “dysania,” which is the state of finding it hard to get out of bed in the morning.

This Blythe doll is Playful Raindrops, sleeping under a beautiful quilt made by Angie Coppi. Angie made the matching eye mask and pillows too. Gorgeous, right?

This picture is for the theme “favorite piece of dolly furniture” in the Blythe a Day group on Flickr. It’s the bed! The bed is my favorite piece of dolly furniture. It’s very sturdy, made of metal, and painted to look old and battered. I got it from Dream Come True Beds on Etsy. What’s great about a bed is that you can change the look completely with different bedding, so it works for any time of year and any kind of doll. I like dolly beds so much that I also have two wooden ones, AND a set of wooden bunk beds. Sleepover, anyone?

Reading is good. Reading is bad.

After you read so many works of great masters and Flickr friends, it is so easy to spot compositions or scenes that you have found already in someone else’s works.

What will you do? Will you still click the shutter or leave the scene?

In other words, it is so hard to find totally new approach or composition to subject matter under sunlight. Compared to literature, someone would argue that there is very limited vocabulary in photography (just variations in focal length, aperture and shutter speed). Do you agree with this?

Happy Monday and great week ahead!

A limited English vocabulary coupled with a very basic understanding of entomology means that I often have conversations like the following with my understudy:

"Is that Katydid dangerous?"

"No, why would you say that?"

"Because it has an ass-knife"

"Excuse me?"

"A knife "(Followed by a gesture to his ass).

After a face palm..."hmmm...you're right, it's not messing around, it will cut you good. Better keep your distance".

Female leaf -mimicking katydid brandishes a scimitar to keep photographers at bay, or an ovipositor to cut into the cambrium of the plant and deposit eggs. Really 6 of one, half a dozen of the other though.
