Orcen vocabulary was not particularly large or sophisticated. They did not have a word for patience, for example. Their closest equivalent was the word “B’arrr’Kek” which meant, literally, ‘to delay violence due to inconvenient circumstances.”

Ugo Rondinone - Vocabulary of Solitude

You can explore the magical world of Ugo Rondinone in Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen till May 29.

Something strange happens when you look at Rondinone’s art. He gives everyday motifs and images a poetic dimension by isolating or enlarging them. On the floor of the 1500m2 Bodon Galleries visitors will move between life-size clown figures. With titles in the present tense, such as be, breathe, remember, feel and yawn, the clowns in the exhibition represent a 24-hour day in the life of an individual.

Kramer, the Moluccan cockatoo at Bloedel Conservatory in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Moluccans are the largest of the cockatoo family and are endangered in the wild. They are native to lowland habitats in south Moluccan, Indonesia and are very intelligent and social birds. Kramer will show off his salmon colored crest if he gets excited. He has an exceptional vocabulary, knowing over 40 phrases.

KiraStyle // 396 //

Romantic Geometry

There are silhouettes that simply follow the body, and then there are those that seem to understand it.

KiraStyle’s 396 fitted romper belongs to the latter.

I stepped into this look expecting softness. What I found was something far more interesting, a beautifully controlled tension between romance and structure. The silhouette is undeniably feminine, yet its confidence comes from the precision of its shape. The body is drawn inward through the waist, released gently through the hip, and finished in a clean, abbreviated romper line that allows the entire composition to feel deliberate rather than merely revealing, with just a little mischief courtesy of a calico cat with a pencil in her paw and absolutely no intention of surrendering creative control.

🌸🌸

The plunging neckline immediately becomes the visual axis of the design. It is daring, yes, but its impact comes from proportion. Fine spaghetti straps preserve the delicacy of the upper line while the fitted bodice creates a sculpted framework beneath. The result is a silhouette that feels almost architectural, softened by floral texture and the gentle romance of the pattern itself.

I love the contrast of the detachable-looking off-shoulder bell sleeves. Their elongated line, widening toward the lace-trimmed cuffs, changes the entire rhythm of the outfit. Without the sleeves, 396 becomes sharper, cleaner and more minimal; with them, it transforms into something more theatrical, poetic and almost painterly.

🎀✨

That contrast is where this look becomes especially compelling to me.

The romper itself follows the figure closely, creating a continuous sculptural line from bust to waist to hip. There is no unnecessary interruption. No excess volume. No visual distraction. Everything is built around the idea of the body as the central composition.

And yet, the floral surface softens that precision.

In pink, the tiny blossoms give the fitted silhouette a sweetness that prevents it from feeling severe. The print catches the light beautifully, especially against the smooth contouring of the garment, allowing the fabric to feel almost dimensional. What might otherwise be a simple fitted romper becomes something much more tactile and romantic.

🌷💗🌷

I chose to style the look with pale lace stockings because I wanted to extend the softness downward without competing with the romper itself. Their delicate texture creates a visual bridge between the lace cuffs of the sleeves and the lighter tones surrounding the body. The result is a more complete fashion story, one in which the accessories do not merely decorate the outfit, but echo its language.

The wide-brim floral hat adds another layer of proportion. Its broad horizontal sweep balances the vertical plunge of the neckline and the long descending lines of the sleeves. It also introduces a certain garden-party elegance, though this is no traditional garden dress. The mood is more provocative, more self-aware, more editorial.

A little innocence. A little mischief. And exactly the right amount of confidence.

🌸✨

What I especially appreciate about KiraStyle 396 is its flexibility. The HUD system allows the look to move through different moods and color stories, while the sleeve and stocking options give the silhouette the ability to shift from minimal and body-focused to romantic and fully styled.

The compatible mesh bodies include:

Reborn Waifu | Lara X | Legacy | Perky | Juicy | BOM (PBR) | Normal Physique

That range gives the design a broad versatility while preserving the body-conscious identity that makes the romper so effective.

KiraStyle’s HUD system also expands the presentation through multiple color options, materials-enabled textures and styling flexibility, allowing the piece to become softer, darker, more dramatic or more playful depending upon the story I want to tell.

🎨🌺

For me, 396 feels like a contemporary interpretation of intimate apparel brought unapologetically into the public fashion vocabulary.

There are echoes of corsetry in the shaping, hints of vintage lingerie in the delicate straps and deeply sculpted neckline, and a whisper of romantic pastoral dressing in the floral pattern and lace.

And then there is the modern romper silhouette, fitted close, confidently abbreviated and designed for a woman who understands that softness and strength are not opposites.

They can occupy exactly the same line.

🌸🌸

Of course, somewhere along the way, my calico companion decided the entire composition required professional supervision. She claimed the artist’s stool, took possession of the pencil, and stared at the easel with the grave concentration of someone preparing to revise my proportions without consulting me first. I considered objecting, but she was holding the pencil.

By the end of the afternoon, I had modeled the romper, styled the accessories, and apparently signed over creative control to a cat in a French artist’s hat.

Fair enough.

I wore this one as a quiet reminder that romance does not always have to be delicate.

Sometimes it can be fitted closely to the body, framed in lace, scattered with flowers, and still walk into the room knowing exactly what it is.

And sometimes, apparently, it can also be critically reviewed by a calico cat with a pencil and no respect whatsoever for the chain of command.

“Fashion becomes unforgettable when the silhouette whispers first, confidence finishes the sentence, and the cat takes the credit.”

Gloria comes from the Latin vocabulary word meaning “glory”. Glory is essentially the prestige, respect, admiration and honor that is given to one who achieves something of importance and praiseworthy. It also connotes a sense of sublime beauty which inspires great wonder or joy (a “glorious” sunset, for instance).

When I was born, my parents told me that they want to name me Victoria but my grandfather( Mom's Dad), told them that he wants Gloria instead because I was born two days before Christmas. It reminded him of the hymn "Gloria in excelsis Deo." Victoria is a calendar name for the month of December which is a beautiful name as well.

This personalized necklace was made by my daughter as one of my gifts for my birthday.

Have a wonderful weekend and Happy month of August everyone!💝

We spent many hours in Hosmer Grove on Maui, a great spot to find endemic species: Apapane, Amakihi, ‘Alauahio, even a flyby by Nene and Pueo. The most common were the I’iwi, who are bullies and very vocal, with quite a vocabulary.

I have a few more days with this beautiful Sigma 20mm ART series lens and I am again, really loving it. I used this predominantly on my Scandinavian trip a few months back and I am enthusiastically welcoming it back once again into my frame. Amazing what some really nice width can do for you. It did take me around 30GB of shooting to get "my" feel for it once again...but I think I did ok.

And "Cynosure" means a person or thing that is the centre of attention or admiration.

"Kirk was the cynosure of all eyes" Its cool to have a nice vocabulary and a few odd words to toss around once in awhile.

There is a whole new vocabulary being developed now, through trends, youth, social media and evolving technology.

Finesse is one such new word and it means: To perfect or smooth things out, both visually and emotionally. Also when someone carries themselves with extreme elegance and style.

The cyclamen commonly sold by florists is Cyclamen persicum, which is frost-tender.

Selected cyclamen cultivars can have white, bright pink, red or purple flowers. While flowering, florists' cyclamens should be kept below 20 °C (68 °F), with the night time temperatures preferably between 6.5 °C to 15 °C (44 °F to 59 °F).

Temperatures above 20 °C (68 °F) may induce the plant to go dormant.

I tried a ‘different’ composition.

Cyclamen are native to the Mediterranean region from Spain east to Iran, and also in northeast Africa south to Somalia.

Our fun and goofy Africa Grey parrot, posing inside his cage and on his ladder.

Arthur is 23 years old and is full of energy, tricks, and a big vocabulary.

One of my favorite things he says, when he sees me getting ready for bed, is 'Nite-nite. Sleep tight. Sweet dreams, I love you.' And his diction is clear as a bell :)

The Church of San Cataldo is a Catholic church located at Piazza Bellini in central Palermo, Sicily, Italy. Erected in 1154 as a notable example of the Arab-Norman architecture which flourished in Sicily under Norman rule on the island, the church is annexed to that of Santa Maria dell'Ammiraglio. Since the 1930s, it belongs to the Order of the Holy Sepulchre.

It has a rectangular plan with blind arches, partially occupied by windows. The ceiling has three characteristics red, bulge domes (cubole) and Arab-style merlons. The church provides a typical example of the Arab-Norman architecture, which is unique to Sicily. The plan of the church shows the predilection of the Normans for simple and severe forms, derived from their military formation. Moreover, the building shows how international the language of Norman architecture was at the time, as the vocabulary which marks parts of the church, like the bell tower, can be tracked down in coeval buildings like the cathedral of Laon and the Abbaye aux Dames in Caen, both in Northern France, or the cathedral of Durham in England. At the same time, the church shows features shared by Islamic and Byzantine architecture, such as the preference for cubic forms, the blind arches which articulate the external walls of the church and the typical spherical red domes on the roof.

The interior has a nave with two aisles. The naked walls are faced by spolia columns with Byzantine style arcades. The pavement is the original one and has a splendid mosaic decoration. Also original is the main altar.

Lithograph, ed. of 5

Printed by the artist in Bradford, England

Collection of the Jordan Schnitzer Family Foundation

Hockney produced some of his earliest works as a teenager attending Bradford College of Art in Northern England. Domestic scenes of family (his mother Laura is depicted here) and working-class neighbors reflect his Yorkshire hometown and its industrial past as a center for British textile and wool manufacturing. Patterns on clothing, wallpaper, floor tiles, and curtains seen in both this work and Self-Portrait, reflect these regional influences as well as that of the French artists Pierre Bonnard and Edouard Vuillard, whose paintings captured Hockney's attention during his early art-school years.

Portland Art Museum

In spring and summer 2026, the Portland Art Museum presents David Hockney: Works from the Collections of Jordan D. Schnitzer and His Family Foundation, celebrating one of the most influential artists of our time. The vibrant exhibition, on view February 14 – July 26, 2026, is the largest North American survey exhibition of Hockney’s work, with more than 200 colorful prints, collages, video, and photographic and iPad drawings spanning six decades of the artist’s career.

Best known for vivid scenes that highlight his passion for both the natural world and human connection, visitors will experience a stunning array of dimensions and media that underscore Hockney’s innovative experiments. Included are his iconic subjects and series—California swimming pools, the monumental Yosemite, and British landscapes in full bloom, as well as intimate portrayals of friends, family, and queer desire.

“Hockney’s colorful, fresh perspectives encourage us to reconsider everyday objects, faces, and places of our rapidly changing contemporary world in whimsical new ways,” said Catherine Whitney, Honolulu Museum of Art Director of Curatorial Affairs and exhibition consulting curator.

Highlighting some of Hockney’s most celebrated pieces, David Hockney: Works from the Collections of Jordan D. Schnitzer and His Family Foundation sheds light on the artist’s process, driven by his fascination with technology as a channel for both artistic creation and human connection. In a pursuit to better understand how artists translate visual perception, Hockney has explored historical modes of representation, including the expansive spaces of traditional Chinese scrolls, the condensed dimensionality of Cubism, and the linear perspective of the Italian Renaissance, as well as optical devices like mirrors and the camera obscura. He also takes inspiration from the continual advancement of modern technology to evolve his approach and visual vocabulary, utilizing tools such as copy machines, photo editing software, iPhones, and iPads.

“To many, David Hockney is the most important artist working today. His images take us on a journey through country roads and gardens and let us view his exploration of perspective. More than any other artist, he has used technology to create art,” said ARTnews Top 200 Collector Jordan Schnitzer. “Whether it was Xerox prints, Polaroid photographs, or on the iPad, Hockney’s eye and hand create some of the most intriguing and beautiful art ever made!”

Hockney’s ability to engage deeply with an ever-changing world invites viewers to reconsider ideas of relationships versus solitude, spectacle versus reality, and tradition versus technology. A highlight of the exhibition is a 2014 photographic series that demonstrates an innovative approach involving “reversed perspective,” in which the spectator’s view is tightly focused on the foreground of an image, rather than upon a far-off vanishing point. Multiple angles and equally sharp viewpoints converge simultaneously to visually simulate the experience of moving through space and time.

“We are pleased to be partnering with Jordan D. Schnitzer and His Family Foundation on this impressive exhibition of David Hockney’s work,” said Portland Art Museum Director Brian Ferriso. “We are excited for visitors to experience the artist’s vibrant style, subject matter, and perspective shifts in the newly renovated and expanded museum.”

Ballet /ˈbæleɪ/ (French: [balɛ]) is a type of performance dance that originated in the Italian Renaissance courts of the 15th century and later developed into a concert dance form in France and Russia. It has since become a widespread, highly technical form of dance with its own vocabulary based on French terminology. It has been globally influential and has defined the foundational techniques used in many other dance genres. Becoming a ballet dancer requires years of training. Ballet has been taught in various schools around the world, which have historically incorporated their own cultures to evolve the art. (Wikipedia)
