Something strange happens every time you look at Rondinone’s art. He gives everyday motifs and images a poetic dimension by isolating or enlarging them. On the floor of the 1500m2 Bodon Galleries visitors will move between life-size clown figures. With titles in the present tense, such as be, breathe, remember, feel and yawn, the clowns in the exhibition represent a 24-hour day in the life of an individual.

Das Hauspferd (Equus caballus) ist ein weit verbreitetes Haus- bzw. Nutztier, das in zahlreichen Rassen auf der ganzen Welt existiert.
Das Hauspferd ist die domestizierte Form des Wildpferdes, das mit den Eseln und Zebras die Familie der Pferde (Einhufer, Equidae) innerhalb der Ordnung der Unpaarhufer (Perissodactyla) bildet.
The horse (Equus ferus caballus) is a domesticated one-toed hoofed mammal. It belongs to the taxonomic family Equidae and is one of two extant subspecies of Equus ferus. The horse has evolved over the past 45 to 55 million years from a small multi-toed creature, Eohippus, into the large, single-toed animal of today. Humans began domesticating horses around 4000 BC, and their domestication is believed to have been widespread by 3000 BC. Horses in the subspecies caballus are domesticated, although some domesticated populations live in the wild as feral horses. These feral populations are not true wild horses, as this term is used to describe horses that have never been domesticated. There is an extensive, specialized vocabulary used to describe equine-related concepts, covering everything from anatomy to life stages, size, colors, markings, breeds, locomotion, and behavior.
Black-tailed Prairie Dogs have a vast "vocabulary". Some scientists consider their vocalizations to be a language. They can communicate the type of predator/threat, the size, the color and whether it's on the ground or airborne.
One of their communications is called a "jump-yip" where one will stand up, seemingly without reason, on its haunches, lean back its head and call out "wee-oo." One of the main theories for this behavior has been that it's a signal of "all clear". But research has shown that they perform the jump-yip before, during and after dangerous events. Some researchers now conclude the whole point of jump-yipping is for one prairie dog to assess the alertness and responsiveness of his or her associates.
The jump-yip occurs in about a second, so it's exceedingly hard to photograph. I missed the yip on this one but got the jump. I'll take it.
Orcen vocabulary was not particularly large or sophisticated. They did not have a word for patience, for example. Their closest equivalent was the word “B’arrr’Kek” which meant, literally, ‘to delay violence due to inconvenient circumstances.”

Writing had been the most important activity all through my professional life. In the last couple of years, however, I have been busy in making the transition to a visual language. Mind you, that too is a language, and it does not work without the presence of concepts, words, emotions, analogies and comparisons stored in our memory banks. Without this vocabulary or 'dictionary', images would not work. Perhaps the opposition of word and image should not be overstated. Still, I am trying out the new, the visual language - new to me. I am far from fluent in this, and my visual vernacular may 'sound' odd. I am just a learner. But I know that I am a student in what I called the School of the New Magnificence. In that school one learns to cross borders and to see life in its abundance, beauty, even glory, and in its misery, limitedness and tragic end. You see, I have described my depiction.

The Brazilian, who popularised Bossa Nova outside of his home country, died at 83 (1941) in Rio. Sérgio Mendes last performed in Europe in November 2023. Synonymous with music of Brasil, just as Carlos Jobin, Milton Nascimento or Astrud Giberto, he enjoyed playing even after 6 decades of being on top of his game. I've seen him in 2015 with his Brasil '66 band in Toronto during Panamania; entertainment part of PANAM Games. The Brasilian flags were prominent in the audience, which sung with him every song. Mas-Que-Nada (transl. That's Nothing/ Whatever), his signature song, means just the opposite in the vocabulary of World Music. World had lost a great musician, pianist, band leader and arranger.

It was a great pleasure to watch an active meerkat family the other day in Rietvlei Nature Reserve.
They radiate an aura of wisdom and actually seem to have a rich vocabulary for communication. Some 40 "words" enhanced by body language signs. Here are few interesting links:

Anyway, this was a part of the family, in subsequent uploads I hope to present individual characters.
The benefits of reading to children include helping them build language skills, learn about the world, improves concentration, empathy and emotional awareness. Description of Historic Place
The Louis S. St-Laurent Building is located in the urban setting of Quebec’s City’s Upper Town. It is an impressive three-and-a-half storey, corner building designed elaborately in the Second Empire style, with later Beaux-Arts design elements. Clad in cut stone, its symmetrical façades are embellished with a rich classical vocabulary and ornamentation, culminating in an attic storey. The designation is confined to the footprint of the building.
Heritage Value
Louis S. St-Laurent Building is a Classified Federal Heritage Building because of its historical associations, and its architectural and environmental values.
Historical Value
Much of the value of the building lies in its historical associations. The construction of the original building marked an important stage in the development of an international postal communication network, and the Louis S. St-Laurent Building is one of the few postal facilities, to survive from this period.
Architectural Value
The Louis S. St-Laurent Building is valued for its very good aesthetic quality and functional design. It represents an early and important use in Canada of the Second Empire Style, which subsequently became somewhat obscured with the reworking and expansion of the building, which took place between 1913 and 1919. The resulting complex reflected the more classically-inspired and grandiose approach of the Beaux Arts style popular at the time of the later modifications.
Environmental Value
Louis S. St-Laurent Building reinforces the historic character of its urban setting. Recent redevelopment work has further modified some of the exterior detailing, but overall the building remains an architecturally significant and dominant element in the important urban setting of Quebec's Upper Town.
Character-Defining Elements
The following character-defining elements of Louis S. St-Laurent Building should be respected.
Its very good aesthetic and functional design and good craftsmanship and materials, for example:
— its three-and-a-half storey, L-shaped massing clad in carved ashlar limestone;
— the remaining Second Empire style elements, including the projecting pilasters, the classical ornamentation, including the columns, entablature and voussoirs;
— the Beaux-Arts style elements added during the 1913-1919 modifications, including the sympathetic stone attic storey completed in the same design vocabulary as the original building, the flat roof, the monumental entrance preceded by a portico topped by a pediment and the dome that crowns the building;
— the extension added to the main building in 1913-1919.
The manner in which the Louis S. St-Laurent Building reinforces the historic character of its urban setting and is a landmark in the region, as evidenced by:
— its importance as a marker for a significant stage in the development of an international postal communication network and as a rare example of a post office from this period;
— its style and its importance as a local landmark, which makes it an architecturally significant and dominant element in the urban setting of Quebec's Upper Town.

From eBird: Large white cockatoo with a spectacular plumed yellow crest and dark bill. Often erects its crest immediately upon landing. Occurs in a wide variety of woodland habitats, including urban parks and gardens. Calls include extremely loud harsh screeches lacking any musical quality whatsoever. Commonest call, both in flight and when perched, is a very harsh grating note. When perched, vocabulary more diverse, with most notes having similar tonal quality to flight call, combined with nasal squeals and squawks.
We were on the hunt for Gang Gang and Glossy-Black Cockatoos when we came upon this Sulphur-crested Cockatoo at her nest hole. Although the bird flew in and out several times with food, we didn't get to see her feed the chicks as they stayed hidden in the nest cavity.
Pinky is having his 2nd birthday, in this photo he is waiting to get out of his cage for the day, notice the clip on top of the door, I had to do this as he
had learned to open the door by putting his beak at the bottom of it and pushing upwards.His vocabulary is amazing and he picks up not only single words but
sentances. It doesn't seem 2 years since my son found him after the storm had blown the tree with his nest in it down.

Gloria comes from the Latin vocabulary word meaning “glory”. Glory is essentially the prestige, respect, admiration and honor that is given to one who achieves something of importance and praiseworthy. It also connotes a sense of sublime beauty which inspires great wonder or joy (a “glorious” sunset, for instance).
When I was born, my parents told me that they want to name me Victoria but my grandfather( Mom's Dad), told them that he wants Gloria instead because I was born two days before Christmas. It reminded him of the hymn "Gloria in excelsis Deo." Victoria is a calendar name for the month of December which is a beautiful name as well.
This personalized necklace was made by my daughter as one of my gifts for my birthday.

It wasn't until my freshman year in high school that I realized dumb heads was two words rather than the shortened version my father would use when he spotted someone doing something
foolish. This eagle seems to be having one of those moments as he watches the antics of a couple of young ones near the ground.
Phrases used by a parent can get stuck in the crevices of our minds and remain there for decades. I don't remember my dad having a very extensive cussing vocabulary but he did have some inventive phrases he used instead and I think this was probably my mom's influence as she could stifle him with a glare that would melt ice.
Dumheads was a catch-all description that could pretty much express his disapproval of a person's actions and I find it reappearing in one of his son's vocabulary a lot these days when I read about what is going on in our world.

The Wartburg Presbyterian Church was deemed eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places under Criterion C in the area of Architecture at the local level of significance. The period of significance is the date of construction of this historic church building: 1883. The church building retains a high level of both exterior and interior integrity, and serves as a strong example of local vernacular craftsmanship as a Folk Victorian church building. The church is an excellent example of a transitional style for regional ecclesiastical architecture, between the simple rectilinear churches characteristic of rural Protestant religious architecture in Tennessee up to that point and adoption of the Victorian architectural vocabularies of the period, both in the ornamental details on the church and in the irregular footprint of the building. Rather than exhibiting traditional styles of religious architecture, this building borrows from both Gothic Revival and Queen Anne styles in a unique local expression of Late Victorian religious architecture. As a religious property whose significance is derived from its architectural design, it also meets the burden of Criteria Considerations A. Therefore, this church was added to the NRHP on December 18, 2013 and all the information above plus much more can be found here:

I apologize too for making the simplest mistake in bird photography, and that is taking the shot from behind. But most birds (except geese) don't listen to my posing instructions.
Taken in late May of 2020.
I just spent 1½ hours editing the raw file of this snapshot in Affinity Photo 1.8.5.703. Seconds before I would hit "Save As"..., the program shut down unexpectedly without me interfering at all. All the work was gone. No developed file, no temporary file saved, no nothing. All the work gone in a split second.
Instead of being mad, I tend to see this as a sign. I have to leave the Affinity. The program though extremely capable is complex, unintuitive, the possibilities are immense but hidden deeply in the menus with an interface vocabulary that needs learning from a scratch and memorizing it.
It simply may not resonate with my mental disposition. I have gone many times through the excellent Lynda tutorial, and I can't memorize it. I have to start the tutorial all over again each time I have to do some serious work after a while. I've been trying hard, for some two years perhaps, and the concept simply doesn't seem to fit in my head, or rhyme with my mental setup. Long ago I had used Corel Photo-Paint, and the UI was so logical and intuitive you didn't need any assistance, just explore the menus.
The time has come, it seems, for me to welcome Lightroom at long last. After many laborious, strenuous sessions with the Affinity, I am fed up with it's complicated hidden inner logic. And now this nasty trickery with the program closing itself by itself with no backup files of the work in progress. IrfanView is an excellent but much underrated editing tool, next to being probably the best viewer available. It has never failed me like this, in almost two decades that I've been using it. It is blazing fast, the code is extremely light, reliable and efficient. But neither the old Corel version I had, nor the latest Irfan, are the tools that can replace Photoshop, Affinity, Capture One, Luminar or Lightroom.
Instead of frustratingly launching onto a yet another questionable 2-hour start-all-over-again session of Affinity, I decided to use here the E-M10 ooc jpeg, just slightly edited in IrfanView.

"In geology, a slickenside is a smoothly polished surface caused by frictional movement between rocks along the two sides of a fault. This surface is normally striated in the direction of movement. The plane may be coated by mineral fibres that grew during the fault movement, known as slickenfibres, which also show the direction of displacement. Due to irregularities in the fault plane exposed slickenfibres typically have a stepped appearance that can be used to determine the sense of movement across the fault. The surface feels smoother when the hand is moved in the same direction that the eroded side of the fault moved (see diagram for explanation), as the surface steps down in that direction, like the scales on a fish when roked from the head." - Wikipedia

You are ninety years old. Old and in pain. In your youth, you tell me, you were the most beautiful girl in the village – and I can believe that. You never learned to read. Your fingers are thick and gnarled and your feet have the texture of cork. On your head you carried tons of firewood and stubble stolen from the fields as fodder, and whole lakes of water. You saw the sun rise every day. The bread you kneaded over the years would be enough to furnish a universal banquet. You raised both people and animals, you even used to take the piglets to bed with you so that they wouldn’t freeze to death. You told me stories about ghosts and werewolves, old family disputes, a murder. You were the mainstay of the household, the fire in the hearth – seven times you fell pregnant and seven times you gave birth.
You know nothing of the world. You understand nothing of politics, economics, literature, philosophy or religion. You inherited hundreds of practical words, an elementary vocabulary. And that was quite enough for you to live by and to go on living. You are as fascinated by major disasters and royal weddings, as you are by petty local scandals and the theft of your neighbour’s rabbits. You harbour grudges against people, for reasons you can no longer recall, and for certain others profess an equally baseless devotion. You live. Dinner for One, also known as The 90th Birthday, is a two-hander comedy sketch written by British author Lauri Wylie for the theatre. German television station Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR) recorded a performance of the piece in 1963, in its original English language. This comedy sketch went on to become the most frequently repeated TV program ever.
The 18-minute single take black-and-white 1963 TV recording featuring British comedians Freddie Frinton and May Warden has become an integral component of the New Year's Eve schedule of several German television stations. Versions of the sketch are also shown in Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Estonia, Lithuania, the Faroe Islands, Austria, German-speaking Switzerland, South Africa and Australia.
On New Year's Eve of 2005 alone, the sketch has been repeated more than 230 times.
The line "Same procedure as every year" has become a very popular catchphrase in Germany. The phrase has entered everyday vocabulary, and is used in newspaper headlines and advertisements.
