Pokolbin N.S.W. - Produce of Australia Murray D Tyrrell Winemaker D2404 The Red wines produced in 1974 are typical of those from wet cloudy years which are sometimes experienced in the Hunter. The wines generally have a more intense fruit character and are lighterin body than those of hot years. Our oldest vines from the red clay soil of our eight acre vineyard were picked during early vintage to make this wine. It shows good red, purple colour, strong fruit flavour and a firm slightly astringent finish. I believe this will develop into a true Hunter style and will continue to improve after 3-4 years bottle ageing. 738ml."

The township and surrounding region provided rich pickings for the notorious bush ranger Ben Hall and his gang during the gold rush of the mid 1800s. Near the western boundary of the vineyard was the site of the largest gold mine known as Blue Jacket Hill. Label Reads: "Lindeman's Hunter River Valley Traminer-Riesling. Bin: 3245. Vintage: 1967. This wine was made from traminer and Riesling grapes grown at Lindeman's "Ben Ean" vineyard, Hunter River Valley, and was fermented at low temperatures in a closed tank to retain the spicy flavour of the grapes. It was bottled shortly after vintaging, and is a highly aromatic wine, with a fruity flavour and "spritzig" character."
