Traminer is an early ripening variety and the grapes for this wine were amongst the first picked for the 1975 Vintage. The wine was fermented under very cold conditions to retain the natural aromatic characteristics of the Traminer variety. Label reads: “Vat 47, Pinot Chardonnay, is the most successful Chardonnay style in Australian wine shows. Since 1972 Vat 47’s have won over 200 medals and trophies. Made from 100% Pinot Chardonnay grapes grown on the Short Flat Vineyard. The grapes were picked early in February at high sugar and acid levels. The juice was fermented under controlled temperature conditions and then matured in new small oak casks until bottling in November 1986. I believe this wine is the style that shows the Pinot Chardonnay variety at its best and although good drinking now, it will live for a further three or four years. Murray D. Tyrrell. Winemaker.
