「快投ダイスケ」 ボストンの地元紙、松坂を称賛：2007年05月15日20時05分
大リーグ、レッドソックスの本拠地があるボストンの地元紙（電子版）は１５日付で、前夜のタイガース戦でメジャー初完投勝利を挙げた松坂大輔投手の好投を大きく報じた。
ボストン・グローブ紙は「完ぺきだった制球」の見出しで投球内容を詳報した。過去の登板では四球連発からの自滅が続いたこともあったが、今回は初の無四球。「彼は（メジャーの）ストライクゾーンを頭にたたき込んだね」。ブルペンで投球練習を始めながら、結局は登板機会のなかった同僚の抑え投手、パペルボンの言葉を引用し、復調した右腕を評価した。
「快投を手に入れたダイスケ」と伝えたのは、ボストン・ヘラルド紙。３打席とも内野ゴロに打ち取られたケーシーの「メジャーには多くの好投手がいるが、彼もその一人だ」とのコメントを掲載し、昨季ア・リーグ覇者のタイガース打線が松坂の力量を認めたことを報道。「多くのファンが想像していたような投手になった」と結んだ。（時事）

Club has 30 days to reach deal with Japanese right-hander

The Boston Red Sox may have posted the top bid for the right to negotiate with Japanese right-hander Daisuke Matsuzaka, according to Major League Baseball sources.
There has been no official announcement, and the Seibu Lions, Matsuzaka's team in Japan, have until Tuesday to accept or reject the high bid.
But, according to officials monitoring the bidding, the Red Sox bid may be between $38 million and $45 million.
According to a source, Texas bid about $22 million for Matsuzaka, with the intention of offering a contract of five years and $50 million if the Rangers had the top bid.
Matsuzaka, who pitched for Japan's World Baseball Classic champions, is considered among the top prospects available this offseason.
If the Lions accept the top bid, the winning bidder has 30 days to reach an agreement with Matsuzaka. If a deal cannot be reached, he would return to the Lions for the 2007 Japanese baseball season.
By 5 p.m. Wednesday, major league teams interested in bidding on the rights to deal with Matsuzaka had to post a sealed bid. Major League Baseball then took the highest bid and forwarded only the dollar figure -- not the identity of the team -- to the Seibu Lions.
According to a source within Major League Baseball, as of Friday afternoon, Seibu had not informed MLB officially whether it had accepted the bid.
There are three reasons the deal would make sense for the Red Sox:
• Talent evaluators who have seen Matsuzaka say he's a top of the rotation-quality pitcher who would improve the Red Sox staff.
• If Boston signs him it would effectively plant a Red Sox flag in the growing Far East market.
• By merely winning the bidding the Red Sox would block the Yankees from acquiring Matsuzaka. By signing him, they would gain the same kind of advantage the Yankees gained when they signed Johnny Damon away from Boston.

Red Sox reportedly win Matsuzaka bid
Price to negotiate with Japanese star as high as $50 million

NAPLES, Fla. -- The Boston Red Sox have apparently won the U.S. rights to star Japanese pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka, it was reported on several media outlets and substantiated by highly placed baseball officials on Monday.
An announcement is expected to be made jointly on Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET (10 a.m. Tokyo time Wednesday) by Major League Baseball and the Nippon Professional Baseball commissioner's offices, MLB spokesman Pat Courtney said Monday at the general managers' meetings.
If the Seibu Lions turn down the bid, Matsuzaka must return to Japan next season. If they accept it, the winning team must negotiate a contract with the pitcher and his agent, Scott Boras, in the next 30 days or lose those rights.
ESPN reported on its Web site on Monday that Boston is the high bidder for the right-hander, who was the Most Valuable Player during Japan's victory this past March in the first World Baseball Classic. MLB accepted bids last week that could be in anywhere from the $20 million to $50 million range. The Red Sox, Yankees and Rangers had reportedly made bids.
ESPN said that Boston's bid was $42 million, although XM Radio reported on one of its Monday morning shows that the bid was in excess of $50 million. Several high-ranking baseball sources also said they had heard Boston was the winner at about $50 million.
In any event, that amount would be unprecedented in the history of MLB-NPB relations. When the Seattle Mariners signed Ichiro Suzuki in 2001, the posting price was $13.1 million.
"That's an awful lot of money just to talk to one player, who's never pitched in the Major Leagues," said a baseball source of Boston's apparent bid for Matsuzaka.
In addition to the posting price, the Red Sox will undoubtedly have to pay Matsuzaka a contract worth about $12 million a year for the next three or four years.
"Now you're looking at a $100 million man," said XM's Orestes Destrade, a former Major League and Japan leagues player, who has strong ties in that Asian country. "I'm concerned about that. He's a stellar pitcher, and in regular circumstances, I think he would have a fantastic Major League career. But that's a lot of pressure to go to Boston with a $100 million label on you."
The expenditure may make sense for the Red Sox, who are trying to rebuild a woeful starting rotation, are always in toe-to-toe competition with the Yankees in the American League East and have lagged well behind their New York rivals in building relationships in the Far East.
After the 2002 season, the Yankees went into a working agreement with the Yomiuri Giants of Japan's Central League to share scouting and development data. Shortly thereafter, the Yankees signed former Giants slugger Hideki Matsui to a three-year contract, which was extended last year. The outfielder, though, was a pure free agent with more than nine years in the Japan leagues, and the Yankees did not have to pay the Giants.
Players with less experience -- like Matsuzaka and third baseman Akinori Iwamura -- must go through the vigorous posting system, which was put into place in 1995 after the Dodgers signed pitcher Hideo Nomo. The posting process was instituted so MLB couldn't raid Japan of its up-and-coming stars without paying a high price to the originating team.
Posting was closed on Friday for Iwamura, who is set to leave the Yakult Swallows if that team accepts MLB's high bid.

タイガースのジム・リーランド監督は、トニー（カージナルス監督・トニー・ラルーサ）の３０年来の友人。去年まで５年間カージナルスのスカウトとして、キャンプ中には、スプリット・スカッド（チームを２つに分けて別の場所で試合を行う）の監督も勤めただけに、僕にとっては、第二の監督のようなものです。人間的にも魅力あふれるジム。そのチームと戦えるなんて、本当に光栄なことです。
僕らは今朝５時半ごろデトロイトに到着し、昼まで爆睡。午後からコメリカ・パークで練習を行いました。２年前、寒くて薄暗くて重々しかったボストンでのワールドシリーズに比べると、同じくらい寒いのに、すかっと明るいムードがチーム全体にみなぎっていて、なんだか楽しいのです。
そんな中で、トニーが、いつにも増して真剣な顔で
僕に近づいてきました。
「ソウ・・・昨夜俺の携帯に、ニッポンの首相から電話がかかってきた」
「えっ？何でですか」
「タグチを先発で使わないと、カミカゼを俺に突っ込ませるぞ、だって」
それだけ言うと、トニーはふうっとため息をつき、スタスタその場から去っていきました。
明日から始まるのは、厳しく張り詰めた戦い。だからたぶん今日だけが、祭りの前夜のような気分に浸れる最後の時間なのです。僕はトニーのジョークに大笑いしながら、冷静沈着な監督だって、選手と同じくらいわくわくと高揚した気持ちでいるんやなあ、と、何だかとても嬉しくなってしまったのでした。

懸念していた通り、雨で試合は中止。僕たちはしばらくの間、手持ち無沙汰でトレーナー室とクラブハウスを行ったりきたりしながら中止決定を待ちました。こうなると、必ず始まるのがフットボール談義です。
この時期、アメリカ人は野球と同時に、もしかしたらそれ以上にアメリカンフットボールに夢中。野球選手も例外ではありません。人が二人以上集まると、もうフットボールの話に花が咲き、あのー、今からプレーオフですよ？と言いたくなるくらい、フットボールが幅をきかせています。
今日も雨中止までのわずかな時間、もう話だけでは我慢できなくなった数人の選手が、トレーナー室に棒を二本立ててテーピングでぐるぐる巻きに固定。それをポールに見立てて、子供用のフットボールでキック勝負を始めました。そして、ほぼ全選手、さらにはチームスタッフ、さらには殿堂入りのレッドさん（レッド・ショーディエンディスト氏）までウキウキとボールを蹴り始めました。アメリカ人は本当にフットボールが好きです。日本と違って、さまざまなスポーツを同時にやりながら育つため、野球をしながら、フットボールもかなり本格的に経験している選手がたくさんいます。
「俺、高校の時、キッカーだったんだぜ！」とナイスキックを決めてご機嫌のアーロン（マイルズ・内野手）。
「４７ヤードのゴールを決めたことだってあるんだから」
「僕は日本に遠征して、あっちの大学と試合したことあるよ」とは、トレーナーのグレッグ。
「え、どことやったん？」
「クワンセイガクイン」
「俺の母校やないかー！どやったどやった？」
「うーん、みんな、ちっちゃかった」
「それが感想かー！？」
そのうちクラブハウス内でも本物のフットボールを使ったスローイングの講習会が始まり、アメリカ人選手たちが、フットボールを投げられない、もしくは投げたことのない僕、そしてラテン系の選手たちに、「こう投げるんだ！」と見本を示し始めました。その自慢げな姿。誇らしげな顔。ああ、アメリカ人は本当にフットボールを愛しています。
でも、本当にフットボールが好きなら、サイン入りボールを投げ合うのはやめんかい、と私は言いたい。

ボッコボコ負け。
個人的には、どうせ負けるなら徹底的に叩きのめされたほうがマシ。
競って競って、競った挙句に１点差などで負けるほうが、精神的にも体力的にも疲労感が残るからです。
で、今日はボッコボコに負けたから、おかげで気持ちはかなりすっきりと
切り替わっています。いいことだけを明日へ持ち越して、悪いことは「なかったこと」にして、明日は別の日。そんな都合のいい考え方ができなければ、短期決戦は戦えません。とりあえず２勝２敗。だから何も心配せずに、ゼロからまた始まると思えばそれでよし、と。
あえて心配事があるとすれば、明日の天気予報。
一日中雨だそうで・・・気が滅入ります。

それは昨日の、試合前ミーティングでのこと。
監督室の入り口で、後続の選手のためにドアを開けて、部屋の内側から押さえていたところ、アルバート（プホルス・内野手）がドアの前に椅子を置いて座ってしまったため、僕はドアと壁に挟まれて出られなくなってしまいました。
続々と選手が入ってきて、もうミーティングも始まろうかという頃、僕が隙間にはまっているのに気づいたスピージオ（スコット・スピージオ・内野手）とプレストン（ウイルソン・外野手）が、
「アルバート、ドアの後ろにソウがいるから椅子どけろ！」
と叫んでくれました。
慌てて椅子をどけるアルバート。静まり返った監督室。全員の注目の中で、いまさらこの隙間からひょっこり出て行くのはなんだか恥ずかしい。
そこで僕は照れ隠しに、
「ＴＡーＤＡ～♪（じゃじゃーん、のアメリカ版）」と両手を顔の横でひろげながら陽気に登場してみました。すると思いのほかウケてしまい、監督室は爆笑の渦に。特にそれを真正面から見ていたスピージオとプレストンにとっては、以来「ＴＡーＤＡ」がちょっとしたブームになってしまいました。
今日も試合中、スー（ジェフ・スッパン・投手）がホームランを打つと、二人とも「ＴＡーＤＡ～」でお出迎え。何かことがあるたびに、「タダー、タダー」とうるさいほどです。
しかもベンチに座って、思い出し笑いまでしているスピージオ。
突然「クックックックッ・・・」と笑い出すから、
「なんやねん？」と聞くと、
「クックックッ・・・ＴＡーＤＡ・・・」
そんなにオモロイか？試合中やぞ。
とりあえず楽しんでもらえたのならいいけれど、チームがリラックスしているのならいいけれど、なぜそれがそこまでおかしいのか、僕にはさっぱりわかりません。
プレーオフに入って、みんなの心がひとつになってゆくこの時期だというのに、異文化の笑いのツボに大きな壁を感じてしまった私は、一抹の疎外感を感じずにはいられないのです。

「プレーオフに入ると、警察がバスを先導して信号無視で突っ走るので、移動中になかなかメールが書けずすみません。今日は打った瞬間（ホームランだと）わかったんですが、こんな劇的なものは初めてなので、どんなリアクションをしていいかわからなかったため、悩みながら急いで走ってしまいました。試合後はインタビューのためにカンファレンスルームに呼んでいただいたんですが、アメリカ人記者との質疑応答は試合より疲れました。ともかく、これで気持ちよくセントルイスに戻れます。ありがとうございました」

第一戦を落としました。たったひとつ負けただけです。
それにしても寒くなってきて、この寒さこそが、「プレーオフ～！」という雰囲気を盛り上げます。もっとも、出場している選手は動いているのでそこそこ暖かいのでしょうが、ベンチにいる僕らは背中が丸まるばかり。
試合開始当初はそれでも張り切って薄着でいた選手たちも、回が進むにつれ、無言で一枚羽織り、二枚羽織り、と、どんどん着ぶくれしていきました。明日くらいには、ベンチにストーブも登場しそうな予感です。
通常、敵地にいると、そのスタンドの色合いに圧倒されるものです。
メッツ戦ならオレンジやブルーがもっと目立って、視覚的に僕らに迫ってきてもいいはずなのですが、観ているお客さんも同じように着こんでいるためか、あまり敵地の威圧感がありません。
今夜はセントルイスも零下の予報と聞きました。カージナルスファンにはぜひ、サンタクロースばりの真っ赤なコートでも羽織って観戦していただきたいものです。

試合前は、「小型飛行機がマンハッタンの高層アパートに激突」の話で持ち切り。「またテロなのか」そんな不安から、誰もがテレビのニュースに釘付けです。
そのうち飛行機の持ち主が、ヤンキースのコーリー・ライドル投手であることがわかり、最終的に彼自身がその飛行機を操縦していて、カリフォルニアの自宅に戻る途中の事故であったこと、そして、本人の死亡が確認されたことがわかると、クラブハウスは沈痛な雰囲気に包まれました。
ライドル投手と親交のあった何人かの選手は、肩を落として押し黙ったままです。外の雨はさほど激しくもなく、霧雨のような状態でしたが、室内練習前に中止が決定。僕たちは物も言わずにバスに乗り込みました。
「今日の雨は、きっと神様が降らしたんだ。ライドルを悼むために、今日は試合をするべきじゃないって」そんな声がぽつぽつと聞こえてきます。
通常よりはやけにあっさり中止が決まった今日の試合。これはあくまでも僕の想像ですが、ライドル投手のご家族をはじめ、ヤンキースの選手関係者たち、ファンの感情、ＮＹ市民、そして、交流のあった選手たちの気持ちを慮った部分もあったのかもしれません。
ホテルに着くまで、帰りのバスがこんなに静かだったことはかつてありませんでした。

配られた家族用のチケットを見て、一瞬にして顔色を変えたブラッド（トンプソン・投手）。
「ちょ・・・ちょっと聞いて！１枚いくらだと思う？」
「わからん」
「１９０ドルだよ！１枚１９０ドル」
「１１９ドルの間違いじゃなくて？」
「ちがう。ほぼ２００ドル。なんでこんなに高いの？」
野球選手は、野球ファンが知っている「当たり前のこと」に疎いものです。
たとえば僕は、球場でどんな食べ物が売られているとか、何が名物かを知らないし、もちろん食べたこともない。自分の所属チームの試合を、スタンドで観る、という経験がないからです。
チケットにしてもそう。窓口に並んでチケットを買ったことがないから、なかなかその値段まで気にしたことがありません。チームによって違いはあると思いますが、レギュラーシーズンの場合、カージナルスでは、選手は「家族席を４枚、友人席を２枚」優先的に買える権利があって、あらかじめ申し込んでおくと、使用した分だけ給与から天引きされます。
一方、プレーオフに入ると、「この試合は何枚」「あの試合は何枚」というフレキシブルな申し込み方ができなくなります。最初に「何枚」と申し込めば、決着が着くまでずーっとその枚数。使わなければ無駄になるし、足りなくても時すでに遅し、というわけです。
これがビジターのゲームとなると、当たり前ですが申し込める枚数も、座る場所も、あくまでも「地元優先」なだけに、ずっと条件が厳しくなります。それにしてもリーグチャンピオンシリーズで、すでに家族席が１９０ドルとは。これってＮＹ値段なのでしょうか？去年のチケットがいくらだったか、もう思い出せません。少なくとも、セントルイスはもうちょっとだけ安かった気がするのですが。
張り切って家族を大勢呼んでいるブラッドはじめ、若い選手はもう真っ青。
「こんなに払うんだ・・・知らなかったよ・・・」
「ワールドシリーズに行ったら、もっとびっくりするような値段になるで」
「た・・・楽しみだね・・・」
たぶん、お客さんはもっと高額のチケットを買って、寒い中見に来てくれる。値段にふさわしい試合をお見せしなければ、高いチケットが泣くというものです。

We are working with a 16 man individual bracket tournament.
We had a problem getting started with the camera so we pick up with Bryson behind 2-0 and in bottom position

Bryson Dains of Terry Parker vs Zack Middleton of Gulf Breeze.
In the third round of championship wrestling Bryson lost in overtime, and Zack Middleton wrestled all the way back to meet in this match where the winner would be guaranteed a third or fourth place at regionals, which would qualify for the state tournament.
Bryson Dains vs Andrew Jackson high wrestler during Duval County Conference wrestling tournament. The Andrew Jackson wrestler would go on to place third in this tournament and Bryson was the champion of the 15 school field.

This was pretty much a defensive match the whole way through. Both wrestlers try a few attacks, but most of them are defended well, right up into the third period.

Bryson Dains in the first match of the Steak & Shake Individual Brackets (IB) Tournament, second tournament of the year.
This is the first challenging match of the year against Mandarin High and Bryson wins with a 6-2 decision.
Bryson Dains of Terry Parker vs Isaac Henderson of Columbia.
Bryson was ranked 9th in the state of Florida while Isaac was ranked 8th. This was a great match that Bryson was ahead by 6-2 at one point.
Bryson would score again in this match, but this one slipped away as he gave up 2 take downs and some back points to lose a heartbreaker 9-8. This will be the last loss in district competition as Bryson places third and goes on to regionals.
Guess who he will meet again there.

ワールドシリーズ優勝。ライトから走ってマウンド行くと、そこにはすでに、選手の山ができつつありました。１人、また１人と重なり合って、かなり嬉しそうで、すごく苦しそう。（こんな大きな人たちに圧し掛かられたらヤバイ）という生命の危機を感じたので、全員が山積みになるまでとりあえず待機。そして最後に小山のてっぺんに思いっきり飛び乗りました。
ちなみに、一番下で潰れていたのはヤディー（ヤディア・モリーナ・捕手）。彼なら大丈夫、象が踏んでも壊れません。
昨夜は史上最長、２日越しの祝勝会を終え、帰宅してからはびっくりするほど多くの電話、メールをいただき、それでもまだ、現実味が沸かずに頭がふわふわしています。もしかしたらこのまま、「優勝したんや」という実感を得られないうちに、来年の春のキャンプに突入するんでしょうか。それくらい、はるか遠くの存在だった頂点。手に入れたくて仕方ないものをふと手に入れてしまうと、喜びよりも戸惑いのほうが先にくるということを初めて知りました。
ワールドチャンピオンになっても、頂点を極めた気持ちには到底なれません。きっと来年もこの感覚を求めて野球をやるんだと思います。目標が次から次へとある限り、野球が少しづつうまくなれると信じて。それでファンに喜んでもらえるのなら、プロとしてそんなに幸せなことはありません。
皆さんのおかげで、こんなに素晴らしい経験をさせていただくことができました。一年間、ご声援本当にありがとうございました。
ところでシャンパンファイトの後、ずぶぬれの選手全員で集合写真を撮ったのですが、トニー（監督）がわざわざ僕の隣までやってきて、肩を組んで写真に納まってくれました。これまでのことが報われた気がして、なんだか泣けちゃいましたよ。

１５年間のプロ野球人生で、一番緊張したバントでした。
７回。３対２とリードされた場面で、先頭のデビッド（エクスタイン・内野手）が２ベースヒット。そこでクリス（ダンカン・外野手）の代打で呼ばれました。守備固めか代走での出場と言われていた今夜、突然のお呼びは、
１００パーセント決めなければいけないバントの指令。（ホンマかいな～）と、一瞬にして背中に冷や汗です。（いっつもこんな場面で・・・しかも突然）と思いつつも、それが僕の仕事。しかし、大歓声の中にいてもなお、自分の心臓の鼓動が聞こえてくるような緊張など、初めてのことです。
監督も、ファンも、相手チームも、テレビを見ている人も、誰もが「絶対バント」とまるわかりな状況は余計にやりにくく、カージナルス側の人間は、絶対に決めてくれる、いや、決めてくれなければ困ると思っている。けれど、バントはそう簡単なものではありません。ワールドシリーズの、しかも勝負を左右する場面。これまでは大舞台の緊迫感をむしろ楽しんできましたが、今日ばかりは楽しむ余裕なんてまるっきりなし。ここで失敗したら、そのダメージは計り知れないものがあります。
幸い無事に決め、その後プレストン（ウイルソン・外野手）のヒットで生還できたからよかったものの、試合後もバントの緊張感が続いており、コーヒーを飲まなければ落ち着いてインタビューも受けられないようなありさまでした。
憧れのワールドチャンピオンまでマジック１。けれど明日もまた、浮き足立つことなく、堅実な試合を展開すること。それが今シーズンの締めくくりとして、僕らがやらなければいけない最後の仕事でしょう。
それが報われるかどうかは、野球の神様にしかわからないことです。

阪神新人清水が田口と合同トレへ
阪神が大学・社会人ドラフト４巡目で指名した清水誉捕手（２２＝関学大）が、年内にも大学の先輩のカージナルス田口と合同トレを行う。１０日は甲子園球場内で体力測定。その後に「１２日から大学で練習します。田口さんの練習日程も分かってくると思うんで。年内に１回会おうと言われてます」と話した。
