Haft-seen (Persian: هفتسین) is an arrangement of seven symbolic items whose names start with the letter "س" (pronounced as "seen"), the 15th letter in the Persian alphabet; "haft" (هفت) is Persian for "seven".[1][2] It is traditionally displayed at Nowruz, the Iranian New Year, which is celebrated on the day of the vernal equinox, marking the beginning of spring in the Northern Hemisphere.
The following are the primary items of Haft-sin, whose Persian names begin with the letter sin in the Persian alphabet.[1][2]
1. Sabzeh (سبزه) – wheat, barley, mung bean, or lentil sprouts grown in a dish.
2. Samanu (سمنو) – wheat germ sweet pudding.
3. Senjed (سنجد) – Oleaster
4. Serkeh (سرکه) – vinegar.
5. Seeb (سیب) – apple.
6. Seer (سیر) – garlic.
7. Somāq (سماق) – sumac.
Coins (سکه sekke), hyacinth (سنبل sonbol), and clock (ساعت saat) are sometimes included too. Other symbolic items that are typically used to accompany Haft-sin include a mirror, candles, painted eggs, goldfish, and traditional Persian confections.
A "book of wisdom" is also commonly included, which might be the Quran, the Bible, the Avesta, the Shahnameh, or the Divān of Hafez.[1]

In the last 15 years, a fungal disease known as chytrid has led to the extinction or decline of over 200 species of frogs and salamanders, including species in our region.
The Service is partnering with the National Park Service, the San Francisco and Oakland Zoos and others to counter the rapid and severe decline of the Northern California Distinct Population Segment of mountain yellow-legged frogs.
The photos and video in this album represent one such effort.

2. Lock the exposure (like I didn't do here) to avoid abrupt changes in lighting.
3. Select a subject with uniform contrast (like I didn't do here).
As a result of the above-listed failures, this is not necessarily an accurate example of the camera's video capabilities, other than to indicate that the camera's automatic adjustments are a bit harsh and jarring.
