Holi 2025: Celebration of Colors and Triumph of Good
Holi, one of the most vibrant and beloved Hindu festivals, marks the victory of good over evil and the arrival of spring. It is a time of joy, unity, and renewal, celebrated with colors, laughter, and love across India and other parts of the world.
Holi is more than just a festival of color — it's a celebration of joy, renewal, forgiveness, and the human spirit’s resilience. Whether it's dancing in the streets or quietly applying gulal to loved ones, Holi 2025 invites everyone to share in its vibrant spirit.
Eyes smoulder in fury;
Her mouth sucks in air,
Wood chars,
Flowers singe
Smearing earth with ash.
Year after year
Faith survives.
Colorful crowds gathered to watch this small effigy of the Demon king Ravana being burnt to commemorate Lord Rama's victory over him.
Lord Hanuman takes on the Ravana. Lord Rama prepares an arrow to kill the immortal evil king. It is believed that due to blessing of Lord Shiva, of whom Ravana was a devotee, Ravana was given a potion of immortality which he kept stored in his navel. Lord Rama's arrow had to pierce the navel to kill him. It is beleived this secret of Ravana's immortality was revealed to Lord Rama by Ravana's younger brother, who did not like the evil ways of his elder sibling.
And here are the Lord Rama, his brother Lakshamana and the Great Monkey warrior Lord Hanuman.
Local stage actors enact the the story of Lord Ramayana as told in the epic "Ramayana" for fifteen days prior to this festival. On the day of Dusshehra or Vijay Dashami (The tenth day of victory), the actors perform the final battle out on the grounds where the effigy of the Demon king is finally burnt.
Today we celebrated Vijay Dashami, a festival to commemorate the victory of Lord Rama over the evil king Ravana.
This day is a culmination of 9 days of fasting and prayers. During these preceding days, the acts of the holy "Ramayana" are played in a drama form at makeshift stage shows. The final battle between the God and Demon are enacted on this day. The battle ends with burning the effigy of the Demon.
A loud cheer goes up amongst the viewers as the Ravana's effigy burns, marking the victory of good and righteous over evil.
Its considered auspicious to collect the ashes of the Ravana's effigy. People risk life and limb to collect the souvenirs from the still raging fires and occasional firecrackers.

The mantra 'Durga Girijaya cha vidhmahe, Shivapriya cha dheemahi, Thanno Durga prachodayath' is a prayer seeking her guidance, blessings, and enlightenment.
