Death Valley is a place of extremes. About two weeks ago (August 16, 2020), the temperature at the Furnace Creek weather station was recorded at 54.5° C (130.1°F). If verified it will set a new record for the highest atmospheric temperature ever recorded on this planet.
When I visited however, in December 2018, and made this image just an hour after sunrise, the temperature was about 3.33°C (38°F) with a consistent breeze blowing across the basin.
To me, the most amazing thing about Death Valley National Park is not the extreme temperature swings, but the diversity of the desert environment. From the salt flats of Badwater Basin, to the peaks of the Panamint Range featured here, from the dunes in Mesquite Flats to the colorful canyons in the Amargosa Range and Grapevine Mountains. Vibrant colors and textures abound, but sometimes the best images are those that leave the beauty to the imagination.
Congrats on Explore!

Computer scientist Margaret Hamilton helped get the Apollo 11 astronauts to the Moon. She led the Software Engineering Division of the MIT Instrumentation Laboratory, the team responsible for developing the guidance and navigation system for the Apollo spacecraft and writing the code that brought astronauts into space and safely back home again.
Hamilton’s leadership and work formed the bedrock of software engineering as a whole. In this now-iconic photo, Hamilton stands next to listings of the Apollo Guidance Computer source code.

I was truly fortunate to have a photo opportunity on the Lynnwood Docks, North Vancouver, BC.
There is no public access to these docks, marina or surrounding property. I had a special access tour as a guest, from a long time personal friend.

The MM theme is odd and the micro-mini duckies are back!! After a MM posting last week that wasn’t at all my usual, I thought the blue duckies should make an appearance.
Lake Genval is one of the MOST beloved places for a Nature lover and photographer like myself!! You can verify it by watching some extraordinary moments and views I have already experienced here, in my photo file with this name . But this last 23d of June, I tasted this magical place in a more …deeper way!! Because I stayed here overnight!! In the Château du Lac! A lovely hotel with a strong personality and history! Though very modern inside!
During the evening of this day, and in the morning of the following one, I have tasted the magical energy, light, and colors of this place, taking some pictures again, of course! But also sharing the upliftment of these special moments with a very beloved person by my side, a great Nature photographer himself…
I am so happy to share with you today, Lake Genval, on my Birthday!!!
The anvil top of a mighty cumulonimbus cloud 90-100 miles east of our house. We watched this cloud develop over a period of 60-90 minutes from our front porch. I verified the distance by looking at radar. I took this shot close to sunset, and by then the storm may have actually been more like 110 miles in distance.
The Macro Monday theme for 1/30 is screw. This choice fits the three parameters of the theme for MM. It also has garnered the most views and faves. I like the other three for totally different reasons, so I think I’ll dither for a bit before choosing.
Btb, I had an incredibly difficult time getting any of these to post. I finally discovered a work around but I’m hoping that my iPhone and Flickr app learn how to play nicely together again— SOON

In the 1660s, English physicist and mathematician Isaac Newton began a series of experiments with sunlight and prisms. Based on his experiments he argued that the geometric nature of the laws of reflection and refraction could only be explained if light is made of particles, which he referred to as corpuscles, as waves don't tend to travel in straight lines. Newton concluded that light is composed of colored particles that combine to appear white.

I've lived out in Maine for over two years now, and I have barely shot the Moosehead East Sub. I live right by it and there's shots to be had, but I'm lazy. For some reason CN 3967 ended up leading a 120 into Brownville Junction the other day and luck would have it that it would be wyed and lead 121 the next day.
I drove up to BVJ in the morning to verify this and got a headstart on them since I needed to walk in pretty far for this image. Bald Bluff used to be just that, a bunch of bare rock along the railroad. To the left is Moosehead Lake, and like a few other spots along it, CP had to blast through rock formations that went right down to the waterline to complete their mainline at lake-level all those decades ago. If you look at old images here, you could walk up to the top of the cut and get a beautiful view looking over the tracks with the lake clearly visible to the left.
Nowadays, the inventor of trees has ruined all of that. Tall growth skirts the lake, and the bluff itself is home to some rather thick foliage. Thankfully there is still plenty of space on the lakeside of the cut to get some elevation for a photo. It may not be what it once was, but it still makes for one hell of a shot.
It wasn't long that I had to wait before this odd couple leading 121 made their way into my viewfinder, about an hour behind schedule.
GMC 910 Truck 1969 Owner Verification (Vintage manual focus lens) - Chatted for a while to the owner of this 1969 GMC 910 Truck (he verified the year) who was unloading it outside the skate hire shop at Olympic Plaza today. He’d owned the truck for a number of years and was thinking about having it repainted in the spring. Didn’t look in bad shape given it’s age!
Once verified the operation and management of the new camera and tested its proper functioning and not to tire the staff, I will upload pics as varied as possible of my huge stock.
In this case it is Zúrich that is a city whose tourist center is beautiful and I have many already edited and about to be uploaded to Flickr.
The conjunction of the urban landscape and the river Limmat gave me the ability to shoot the camera without rest and that most of them are good. The problem is to choose what to show in my gallery, because I have always intended to make it as varied as possible.
The opinion is always personal and there is the possibility of what I like, for another it is a vulgar photograph.
The edition is slightly different from my last images. I have tried to make it visually beautiful even though it is already by itself.
By the way, on the terrace with red flowers that looks to the left of the image, we ate my wife and myself. We ate very well, but the Swiss bills are terrifying.
Thank you in advance for your visits and comments.

--------------------------------------------
After picking up a block of cars, the M305 only has a few checks to make on the air brakes before it can head off towards Montreal.
It's important to verify your own facts and information, and not take things at face value! This is a cultivar of Globe Candytuft, or Iberis umbellata. It most likely came packaged along in one of my "native" wildflower mixes, which is a shame!
These flowers are gorgeous, don't get me wrong, but very much so an Old World species. Hence the "Iberis" in the name, coming from the Iberian Peninsula. So, imagine my confusion when stands popped up among my Rudbeckia and Coreopsis! I'll let them hang this year, but I'll be replacing them next season with a local contender. Lots of deep purples and "globe" shaped flowers around here, too!
It's not the end of the world, but seeding native species helps your local ecosystem out tenfold compared to a nonnative ornamental! Great example is my Crape Myrtle (Lagerstroemia indica) trees. Gorgeous ornamentals, very strongly associated with my region! But, I only ever find generalist species on them. There are exactly ZERO native species that rely on the crape myrtle. Like these candytuft flowers, generalist feeders will take sap and nectar, but there will be no interesting lifecycles to document at all!
On the other side of that coin, gardening is just as much about YOU as the environment! If you find joy looking at these guys, I don't want to "yuck" your "yum". I just recommend that for every species of imported ornamental, you plant at least one or two perfectly paired native powerhouses!
Together, we can genuinely change the population levels of keystone species!
This PSA was brought to you at 1:1 using my Vivitar (Komine) 90mm f2.8 Macro. This photo is uncropped. These perfectly pretty purple-petaled pests are in a flowerhead around 1in (25mm) in diameter!
Wow! I've long wanted to see a Limpkin but I'm sure I'll never get the opportunity to travel to south Florida, where they are common...so, what an amazing encounter this one was for me at Meaher State Park yesterday morning! Actually, I was so heat exhausted at the time that it didn't occur to me that it was a Limpkin...I just took some shots! My heat addled brain assumed it was a juvenile Yellow-crowned Night Heron, not noticing the long orange beak!
When I got home and looked at it on the monitor I knew it was something that looked familiar from Flickr but not in real life! I had Karen verify that it was indeed a Limpkin and she excitedly put it on Ebird! Such a rare sighting outside of Florida! I imagine Meaher Park will have an influx of local birders today hoping to have their own Limpkin sighting! I hope they get to see it!
Of course, I only had my 18-55mm 'caterpillar' lens on the camera, so I was lucky to get a shot I could crop from a distance!

Did a steam verification and it fixed it said I was missing 11 files ....... some how when I cleaned my files with Tess5edit had to have deleted something that was not replaced with one of my mods I guess as I went though every mod and nothing effected both these rocks and the city walls..... or nothing in common to them both.
