Wereldmuseum Rotterdam
The World museum in Rotterdam is a museum about cultures in the past and present.
It is the continuation of the Museum of Land and Ethnology and is located on the corner of Veerhaven and Willemskade. It shows more than 1,800 ethnographic objects from different cultures in Asia
The museum is housed in the former club building of the Royal Yacht Club. The building dates from 1851 and was opened in 1852 by King William III. The Yachtclub received objects by Rotterdam shipowners, scientists and collectors, and exhibited them in its building. After the death in 1879 of Prince Hendrik, the chairman of the Yacht Association, the building was sold to the municipality of Rotterdam and in 1885 this resulted in the creation of a municipal museum: the Museum of Land and Ethnology, later Museum of Ethnology.

Rotterdam in the mist
A history of Rotterdam will be told anothere time. Now the story goes about high, very high in Rotterdam.
There are a few places that one can have a high view over Rotterdam, yes, almost an aerial view.
Ofcourse there is the Euromast, which you can see in this picture, partly in and above the mist. The Euromast lies near a park. Other interesting subjects in this image are: the Veerhaven , in the low-middle part of the image, with some sailing boats, the Wereldmuseum , which is a little to the right of the Veerhaven and Erasmus MC, that are the white buildings in the right upper part of the picture. The view is a bit north-west and taken from one of the big skyscrapers in the southern part of Rotterdam. Enjoy the view!

Veerhaven is one of Rotterdam's historic harbors, located between Willemskade and Westerkade in the city's classic maritime district. It lies on the north bank of the Nieuwe Maas (New Maas), not far from the Euromast.
The Veerhaven district takes its name from the ferry service to Katendrecht, on the south bank of the Nieuwe Maas, which was established as early as the 15th century. Until the opening of the Willemsbrug Bridge in 1878, this was the only link between the north and south banks of the Nieuwe Maas. This ferry service, operated by the Heen en Weer shipping company, ran until 1968, when the metro took over the north-south route. From 1911 until the opening of the tunnel under the Meuse in 1942, in addition to passenger transport, a vehicle ferry, the wagon ferry, also provided freight transport.

For a change, two "quite normal" ship photos, in colour.
Here the "Veerhaven IX" on the Oude Maas, effectively on the Rhine. Her destination is the Schwelgern works harbour in Duisburg (said "FindShip"), and all she has to do is go straight ahead, i.e. past Dordrecht, Werkendam, Nijmegen, no big turns.
The "Risico" in the ferry harbour in Puttershoek on the Oude Maas (i.e. in the Rhine delta). The names of the rivers in the Rhine delta are quite confusing, in the end it is mostly Rhine water that flows there and to a lesser extent some Meuse water.

The fastest way to transport you over the water in Rotterdam is with the water taxi. There are 50 departure points for the water taxi. In addition, Watertaxi Rotterdam also provides the ferry service to Hotel New York from the city center (Veerhaven and Leuvehaven). Beside the fast transportation, the "ride" about the water is of course a spectacular experience.
The water taxi Rotterdam travels in the ultra-smooth black-yellow Maastaxi, which can accommodate up to 8 people.

The danish trainferry ‘Prins Joachim’ has just docked at Nyborg harbour. Locomotive My 1135 departs with train 443 ‘Englænderen’ to Esbjerg. In the latter place the passengers will be able to embark onto the night ferry to Harwich. The ferry crossing between Korsør and Nyborg became history when the Great Belt fixed link was opened in 1997.

In the first half of the 20th century, the Amazone, built as a Wad- and Sontvaarder, made its contribution to freight shipping in the Baltic Sea and the German rivers with Captain Wilhelm Haalck as captain. However, the inevitable fate of many sailing coasters also hit the Amazon. She was used as a stone fisherman. In 1984 she was laid up as economically inefficient in Flensburg. Had it not been for the emergence of passenger sailing charter sailing since the 1970s, shipbreaking would probably have been the end of the Amazon. In 1991 she came into the possession of the current owners and a start was made on the complete renovation and conversion into a luxury sailing party ship. In May 1994 the work was completed and the Amazone came back into service as reborn.
