Every once in a while you stumble upon a magical scene that has to be captured and this is one of them for me,
I happened upon this on the Bogaardlaan in Valkenburg a City in the Limburg province of the Netherlands.
Valkenburg is in the middle of Limburg province which is thrust between Belgium and Germany like some forgotten piece of the Netherlands that was never retracted, the area is probably the most elevated terrain that can be claimed by the Dutch and possibly may be the attraction for so many Dutch to visit each year.

In this ancient city there is much to experience: from ultimate relaxation to cave adventures. Valkenburg is called a town, but it is not really very large. Not even by Dutch standards. I actually enjoy it. You can do everything by foot, without getting too tired. In the cosy centre you can enjoy walking through the traffic free streets enlivened by the many terraces. When you look up, above the awnings, the traces of past centuries are still clearly reflected in the graceful buildings. Under the medieval city gate you can imagine how the damsels used to walk around in years past, peeking at brave ‘knights in shining Armor’. The town looks like the movie set of a fairy tale movie.

Valkenburg once was a walled city, picture here are some of the best preserved remnants of the old wall and the moat that surrounded it and is currently serving its citizens as a city park as well as rendezvous point for lovers young and old.
The space takes its name from the Castle that bounds one end of the park Den Halder, the Halderpark was once part of the castle grounds/city fortification system and was renovated into its current form only recently in 2014.
The moat system is designed to collect water from the nearby hill the Cauberg and return this to a canal that runs through the old city through a drain system to keep refuse from polluting the water way.
The park and water in the evening are wonderfully lit up but I unfortunately missed the evening lightshow and had to make do with the serenity of an overcast fall afternoon.

Netherlands
We’re back home from our trip to the Christmas markets in the Netherlands and Germany. It was a long journey yesterday!
We’re so glad we did it, and we had the best time.
On Thursday evening we decided to eat in a local restaurant instead of in our hotel.
This is the scene on the street where the restaurant was.
Valkenburg is beautiful!
