Breuil-Cervinia, Valle d’Aosta, Italia.
Breuil-Cervinia is a hamlet in the Italian municipality of Valtournenche, in the Aosta Valley region and province.
Breuil is the original French name, probably derived from the Arpitan word *breuil* or *braoulé*, which refers to marshy mountain plains, a toponym common in the Aosta Valley. Cervinia is the Italian name assigned to the town during the Fascist era.
It is currently a ski resort. Breuil-Cervinia sits at 2,006 meters above sea level, at the foot of the Matterhorn (Monte Cervino in Italian; Mont Cervin in French), in a valley surrounded by high, glacier-covered mountains and the stark rocky face of the Jumeaux massif. It shares a ski area with Zermatt in Switzerland. Some of the routes are very long, the longest being 22 km from the Klein Matterhorn (Piccolo Cervino in Italian, Petit Cervin in French) in Switzerland down to Valtournenche in Italy.
The city hosted the World Bobsleigh and Skeleton Championships in 1971, 1975, and 1985.
