Meet the Canadian artist Rodney Graham who likes to stage himself in different situations. Here he performs the role of an old-fashioned art dealer, not in the least bothered to smoke a pipe in his gallery, while vacuuming the carpet on the floor.
Graham and his assistants created the whole setting, including the modernistic paintings on the wall, in the style of Rodchenko. This snapshot is just a detail of a panoramic lightbox in four parts.
I wrote a review about this work of art, which was published in The Hague's weekly newspaper. You can also find the article here on Facebook.
Another proof that Nature abhors a vacuum. The morning was greyish and I did not go to the wetlands. Suddenly some movement of strange shapes in the crowns of the trees in my garden - I run outside and there they were: a small flock of Yellow-tailed Cockatoos!
This charming female was preening and gave me this special look.

A colleague of mine, philosophy professor, was pestered by his students that he ought to look into himself when searching for answers. His reply was, that he had done so. "There is nothing in it", he said. It is a frightening answer. I would modify it by saying that everything that is in me I have put there myself - either actively by doing so, or passively, by allowing it to be put there. And that is frightening as well. To be fully responsible without knowing the answers, perhaps not even to be aware of the right kind of questions. This is a dilemma we should not run away from. Pseudo-certainties will not only not help, they are dangerous as well. But we can talk about the human dilemma. Perhaps agree on ways forward. "Nobody is perfect" is a helpful assumption. Knowing this is what makes us human. Leica M Mono, plus Leitz Elmar 4/135 at F8 (focus achieved in Live View).
Hello my amazing Flickr friends !!
Today is a yellow day at Color my World daily, and we will celebrate with the official answer for yesterday’s challenge. As my husband predicted, many of you, especially men, knew what was in my yesterday’s picture. It was an old vacuum tube, you can see in all its glory on my today’s picture with Mr. Severed Hand floating (for once !), and acting very curious in front of the vacuum tube. Those were used in old radios and tv’s. We have an old Telefunken radio and music player and at one point my husband had to change the vacuum tubes so we kept the old ones since those are very cool looking.
Thank you so much for all your participation !! You, Flickr people are awesome !! I love my Flickr community, you are very dynamic and always ready to play !! Which is what all this is about, in my opinion !
Mucho, mucho amor for you my friends !! Have a beautiful day !!!
Thank you so much for all your lovely comments / favs/ general support / happy thoughts!! Stay safe and well!! And see you soon on Flickr !
It seems as if all the air has been sucked out of this house just across the Minnesota border, and it has imploded.
Double glazed windows are slightly concave due to the vacuum in between the two panes of glass which results in significant distortion. This is the sun shining on our house reflected in the window opposite with a tracery of malus floribunda branches in the foreground. It's a different kind of image for me but it made an interesting change.
1971 Ford Mach 1 Mustang Fastback
One of the most recognizable features of the 1971–1973 Mach 1 is the hood design with dual scoops. The hood was a no-cost option on the 302 cars and standard on all others. The basic hood had non-functional NACA-style submerged ducts, but when ordered with the Ram Air option, it became functional. It included a vacuum-controlled door inside each scoop, and a fiberglass under-hood 'plenum' that directed cool, outside air through a modified, rubber-ringed air filter housing and into the carburetor. Ram-air also included a pair of 1970 Mach1-style chrome twist hood locks and a two-tone hood paint treatment in either 'matte black' or 'argent' (matte silver), which coordinated with the decals and striping. The option also received either a "351 RAM AIR" or "429 RAM AIR" decal on each side of the hood.
Slowly, the spaceship hangar opens. The rusty hinges screech. Fortunately, no one hears this in the vacuum of infinite space.

Grain lifter 19 Infos*
The principle is simple yet unimaginable, and works like a vacuum cleaner.
The World's only surviving steam grain lifter.
The MAS (MUSEUM AM STROM) and the Maritime Museum Rotterdam have developed a kind of plan for shared custody for this particular ship.
The cereal lifter is under joint management and spends half of its time in Antwerp and the other half in Rotterdam.
But, after a 92-year career, even such a great machine as the grain lifter is starting to show some weaknesses.
Both the pontoon, the tower and the electronics need to be restored to keep the whole thing permanent and functional for the future.
For this reason, the grain lifter is expected to stay in Rotterdam for two years before coming back to Antwerp.

Keeping it free from tree debris etc
Easier than mowing.
The machine propels itself forward slightly too.
I won’t do it again until Autumn. 3 or 4 times a year in all.

Unlike the other dogs we've had, Kobuk doesn't mind having me vacuum around him. He did decide to hang out with his "cube," which is a kind of puzzle for dogs. (It holds small treats, and he has to rotate or shake it to get them out.)
Explored # 479 on July 3, 2020. Kobuk was very pleased to hear the news - thank you, everyone!

The City Market is permanently closed....but I liked the bright colors on the abandoned sign and that Mr. Vacuum truck lurking in the background.
A small, very unusual & very uncommon harvestman (head-body about 4mm long). This was extracted from the undergrowth by the vacuum samplers on a VERY wet day when little else was found.
Wyre Forest, Shropshire.
08528 stands in the goods yard at Murton Park on the Derwent Valley Light Railway with a train of three vacuum-fitted vans.
Taken during a Northern Diesel Photo Charters event organised by Chris Gee and lit by Tom Robson and Jack Beeston.
08528 spent much of its life in north London and East Anglia, ending up based at Stratford. It is thought to be one of the last class 08s to have been repainted from the green livery depicted here into rail blue, something that didn't happen until the late 1970s - hence the green livery and TOPS number are authentic. It ended it's time on the main line based at Bescot.
The signalbox came from Muston Crossing near Filey.
Manipulation notes: I found the light-coloured painted wood of the signalbox burned out when I exposed the image correctly for the train (and the interior was also a little too bright). So, without moving the position of the camera, I also took some frames at various levels of underexposure, and have copied the signalbox from one of those; the two layers were then processed separately.
A big thanks to all those involved in organising and running this event, which raised money for the Derwent Valley Light Railway Society.

Solar panels: 1 – Shane and Thomas : 0. Rematch tomorrow, Sunday. Here are some more spacewalk photos from our first match on Wednesday, taken by Oleg and Pyotr. They show very well the ever-changing lighting conditions we have to work in. Aside from the vacuum and everything floating away, we also have to deal with strong sunlight and complete darkness alternating all the time! During the 7-hour spacewalk we kept the helmet lights on all the time as we have plenty of battery, but we raise and lower the sun visor. Not to look like Ironman but to not be blinded by the harsh light of the Sun. You can also see in one picture the pink tinge on the Space Station, it was a sunrise! We return tomorrow for another busy day to deploy the first solar array and install a second.
Panneau solaire : 1 – Shane et Thomas : 0. Match retour demain ! 🌞

"Hope our vacuum is hungry," stated Phillip.
"Oh he is. He hasn't been fed in weeks! Well, since he ate mom's ring and refused to reveal its whereabouts!"
"Are you sure this is how mom wanted the Christmas mess cleaned up, because once he eats it, he won't want to give it back for next year."
"I already thought about that. I filled him up on old salami and moldy leftovers. Once we are done cleaning, we will just open him up and take out what we need before he has time to digest it or throw it up...whichever comes first!"
"Marble, you are the smartest!"
