“Enjoy The Purge” Pose
Exactly three years ago we were on holiday in beautiful Copenhagen. On April 30 we visited the district Ørestad by bike to have a look at the stunning architecture there (see first comment).
On our way back to our lovely hotel which was located directly at the canal we passed The Royal Library, called The Black Diamond, here on the left hand side and public authority buildings on the right hand side, illuminated by the evening sun.
I loved the reflections on the library and the evening light.
Going down the memory lane ... I have very fond memories of this city and its people ... a care-free time !

Vor genau drei Jahren wir waren in Urlaub im schönen Kopenhagen. Am 30. April besuchten wir den Stadtteil Ørestad mit dem Fahrrad, um uns die atemberaubende Architektur dort anzusehen (siehe erster Kommentar).
Wir waren auf dem Rückweg zu unserem Hotel, das direkt am Kanal lag, als ich anhalten musste, um diese Abendscene aufzunehmen.
Man sieht die Königliche Bibliothek, genannt der Schwarze Diamant, auf der linken Seite und rechts Gebäude der öffentlichen Verwaltung, die von der Abendsonne beleuchtet werden.
Mir gefielen die Spiegelungen in der Bibliothek und das Abendlicht.
Eine unbeschwerte Zeit ... das war sicherlich nicht unsere letzte Reise nach Kopenhagen.

Another shot from one of my Regents Canal walks a few months back. A different day from my last posting but in the same stretch of the canal with the permanent houseboat community. Please see my last posting if you don't know what I'm talking about.
I liked the different objects on view here which caught my attention and perhaps hints at a pleasant evening on the water enjoying a glass of wine with friends. However I'm not sure how King Kong fits into the equation, although I do like the fact that he makes an appearance here. 😄

This image is a labor of love. Originally begun in 2022 and finally finished this year. It is comprised of images from 2 different telescopes, 2 different cameras, two types of binning, and 9 different exposure lengths. I had no idea how difficult it would be to marry all this data together. Finally, here it is.
Discovered in 1702 by the German astronomer Gottfried Kirch, M5 is one of the oldest globular clusters in the Milky Way galaxy. With an apparent magnitude of 6.7 and a location 25,000 light-years away in the constellation Serpens, M5 appears as a patch of light with a pair of binoculars and is best viewed during May.
A majority of M5’s stars formed more than 12 billion years ago, but there are some unexpected newcomers on the scene, adding some vitality to this aging population.
Stars in globular clusters are believed to form in the same stellar nursery and grow old together. The most massive stars age quickly, exhausting their fuel supply in less than a million years, and end their lives in spectacular supernova explosions. This process should have left the ancient cluster M5 with only old, low-mass stars.
Yet astronomers have spotted many young, blue stars amongst the ancient stars in this cluster. Astronomers think that these laggard youngsters, called blue stragglers, were created either by collisions between stars or other stellar interactions. Such events are easy to imagine in densely populated globular clusters, in which up to a few million stars are tightly packed together. Text from NASA/Goddard

M5 V2 is perhaps slightly better. V2 used a masked stretch, which made the stars smaller but resulted in a clouded overall look. In V3 I decided to go with a more conventional stretch for better clarity. Now in V4 I've used all my tricks, and its made a marked improvement. Well, perhaps not all my tricks. In V5 I used a layered approach, stretching the stars until they neared saturation, then removing them, then repeat with dimmer stars. This did a better job exposing some of the core.

Air Namibia Airbus A340-300
A photo from July 2012, when Air Namibia used A340 to operate the WDH-FRA rotation. This A340 started its life with Air France in 1994 and also operated for Sabena and LH (D-AIMF, nowadays A380 reg). It was withdrawn from use in November 2013 and got replaced by A330's. Here it is seen lining up runway 18 on a great evening.
