Greatest urban innovation ever.

The Community Center is part of the 80 acres and ten years of building spawn by the 1965 capital improvements bond issue, in which two-thirds of the money was provided by the federal government as a Title I renewal project. The community center is composed of three buildings: a Convention Center with arena and exhibition hall, a 2,400 seat Music Hall, and the Leo Rich Theater with 575 seats. These buildings are placed around a spacious central plaza, design by Garret Eckbo of EDAW, with fountains and other water features, which unfortunately have not been well maintained.

Part of the Modern Tucson 2013 Home Tour was this new re-development on the Westside of Tucson. This house is comprised of four rooms distributed around a courtyard to optimize natural light and ventilation on a tight urban infill site. The south façade is structural adobe, employing thermal mass to modulate interior comfort. A steel brise-soliel shades southern glass during the warm months but allows direct solar gain in the winter. Exposed masonry, steel, and concrete finishes require little long term maintenance, and custom steel elements add visual interest to the simple palette of materials and colors.

FINALLY old enough to drink here!! Went here when it opened back in the early 90s, but I was under 21. Then, the family moved away and I didn't return for a visit until 2015. This brewbup was converted from an old municipal bus maintenance barn in downtown Chattanooga. The area has been revitalized as a tourist overnight for tourists transiting from the Midwest to Florida.

I love photographing these old signs and murals. This was a hell of a photowalk!

The Mesa Arts Center opened in the Fall of 2005. It was designed by DWL and BOORA architects of Phoenix and Portland respectively. The project set off a range of Art Center development and renovation across the Valley if the Sun, in order to compete with this great new center.
