Unity Temple, Oak Park, Illinois; winter, morning; one of the most beautiful rooms I've ever been in
U.S. Senator Barack Obama spoke on Sun. July 27, 2008, in the Skyline Ballroom of McCormick Place West on the last day of UNITY '08: A New Journalism for a Changing World. The program aired live on CNN.
Unity Chapel dates back to 1766 when two Presbyterian missionaries visited the Latrobe area, which was on the remote frontier region at the time.
They began holding worship services for what became known as the Unity congregation on a farm in the area. In 1774, founder of Pennsylvania William Penn’s grandsons deeded 60 acres to Unity trustees to construct a “meeting house,” where a log church was built. Some of the adjacent land became a burial ground from the frontier settlers.
Unfortunately for that congregation, the log church was destroyed by fire in the winter of 1829-30. Its members then constructed a larger red brick church in 1830. By 1874 though, that building was demolished and replaced by another smaller red brick church which stand here today. The adjacent cemetery is the final resting place to some of the area early settlers. It is also the final resting place of Fred Rogers who was the host of the popular children's TV Program, "Mr. Rogers Neighborhood."
BENTIU, SOUTH SUDAN, 27 OCTOBER 2023: Ghanaian peacekeepers, dedicated to maintaining peace in Unity State, frequently conduct patrols to connect with local communities and address their concerns. These patrols provide opportunities to engage with community members, foster a strong sense of connection and trust, and gather early warnings about potential conflicts.

The ladies doing their own game in the family room (sort of like a 'Simon says' game). This was during our annual Christmas family gathering at Auntie Sharon's place.
It was that time of year again... Christmas! Me and my family had gathered at Auntie Sharon's place in Stockton, CA for our annual family Christmas get-together. Due to heavy traffic, (which was likely caused by the evening commute plus holiday travelers), a lot of people were late, including us! The trip to Stockton from San Jose took like over 3 hours...a trip that usually takes an hour and a half on regular occasions! Nonetheless, we all made it there safely. We had lots of great food, fun and games, great fellowship, and basically enjoyed our unity and reunion as a family to celebrate this special Christmas holiday! The program, or itinerary, included games, white elephant, an ugly sweater contest, a short service or devotion, and ultimately the passing out of the Christmas presents! We had actually stayed well after 3 a.m. Indeed it was a long and fun evening! Merry Christmas and a happy new year, everyone! (Event taken place on Wednesday evening, December 24, 2014)
View of Unity Island in Buffalo, NY, September 20, 2020.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Buffalo District's work at Unity Island is made up of two separate projects that will remove invasive species and restore 10 acres of coastal wetland habitat. The restoration project is a prime example of a much larger campaign for beneficial use of dredged material in the Great Lakes region.
