Unity College students got a healthy dose of service on the annual alternative spring break trip. The nine day trip saw students opt out of traditional spring break plans and instead volunteer at organizations across Maine. They maintained trails in Waldo County, built a home for Habitat for Humanity in Portland, worked at the Volunteer Regional Food Pantry, and more. Photos from Kelly Barber and Rae Vander Werf.

14-01-21 Unity Hall Restoration. Alot of the inside of Unity has been stripped back massively. It reveals the different eras of the building, and how some parts deep within it were once the outsides of buildings. Many corridors are clearly former alleyways and contain shop fronts etc.

Unity Hall was constructed in 1887 at 3140 S. Indiana Ave. for the Lakeside Club, a Jewish social organization. It became the home of Cong. Oscar DePriest's Peoples Movement Club in 1917, Churches have occupied the building since the 1950s.
Considered one of Frank Lloyd Wright's most important buildings, the Unity Temple was constructed from 1905 to 1908 to serve as the building for a Universalist congegation in Oak Park, IL.
[From Wikipedia] Unity Temple is a Unitarian Universalist church in Oak Park, Illinois, and the home of the Unity Temple Unitarian Universalist Congregation. It was designed by the American architect Frank Lloyd Wright, and built between 1905 and 1908. Unity Temple is considered to be one of Wright's most important structures dating from the first decade of the twentieth century. Because of its consolidation of aesthetic intent and structure through use of a single material, reinforced concrete, Unity Temple is considered by many architects to be the first modern building in the world. This idea became of central importance to the modern architects who followed Wright, such as, Mies Van Der Rohe, and even the post-modernists, such as Frank Gehry.
