Der unmittelbar nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg konzipierte Unimog war ursprünglich als rein landwirtschaftliches Fahrzeug gedacht. Er sollte einem zweiachsigen Schlepper ähneln, aber vier gleich große Räder, Allradantrieb mit Differenzialsperren, schraubengefederte Portalachsen, geschützte Antriebswellen in Schubrohren, Trommelbremsen an allen Rädern und einen Leiterrahmen haben.

The Unimog, conceived immediately after the Second World War, was originally intended as a purely agricultural vehicle. It was to resemble a two-axle tractor, but had four equal-sized wheels, all-wheel drive with differential locks, coil-sprung portal axles, protected drive shafts in torque tubes, drum brakes on all wheels, and a ladder-type frame.

Am Abend des 28.03.2021 überführte die von Railadventure angemietete DE18, 4185 006, zwei firmeneigenen Schutz- bzw. Kuppelwagen als DbZ 92312 Braunschweig Hbf - Saarbrücken Rbf Nord über die Nahetalbahn und passierte dabei nahe Ippesheim einen Unimog 421.

That beast of a vehicle is a heavy-duty Mercedes-Benz Unimog U4000, which has been converted into a custom, extreme off-road expedition camper. Now that’s a camper! I had a chance to speak to its owner. He’s from Germany and he had the vehicle transported to Halifax. After a fabulous drive across Canada, he’s now in Victoria.
