I am still overcome with emotion after the events at the US Capitol last Wednesday. The sight of that ugly mob, at Trump’s instigation, defacing the symbol of our democracy is so horrifying and repulsive to me, I am beyond words. As many of you who have followed my page know, I am no fan of Donald Trump, to put it mildly. From the very beginning I knew that his presence in the White House was a travesty and that he was completely unfit to serve. As a culmination to four long years of outrageous acts, the disgusting sight of this deluded mob takes the cake, while thousands continue to die each day from Covid. I could go on and on ...

This photo was taken several years ago while on a visit to the UK - it was a complete throw away, taken through the window of a tour bus while being jostled by fellow passengers, all wanting to get a shot of the these wild ponies. So I took this image to the fantasy land of DDG and touched it up in Topaz Studio.

The little stone church of St. Mary and St. Finnan on the shores of Loch Shiel at Glenfinnan caught my eye. It reminds me to keep faith and not to despair.

I still believe in my fellow citizens; that a tsunami is coming at the ballot box in November and the most corrupt, demonstrably ignorant and unfit, monstrous presidency in our history will soon be checked and eventually discarded to the dustbin of history. I can only hope that many lessons have been learned.

"You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is like an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty."

~ Mahatma Gandhi

From ancient civilizations to today's experts, we've been warned over and over and over again: if we don't take care of this sacred home we've been given, it won't be able to provide us with shelter, food, and comfort any longer, just as surely as a house we abuse and neglect will be condemned as unfit for human habitation sooner or later ;-(

Aril iris have "beards" on their falls and some have beards on their standards. They are related to the bearded iris commonly grown in gardens. Most of the Aril species are native to the Middle East and Central Asia. The term, aril, refers to a white fleshy appendage on the seeds that attracts ants which disperse the seeds.

The Memory of Ancient Lands

“Remember that all the ancient lands you walk on, the most beautiful as well as the most isolated and arid, tell a vital/pivotal story. " (A Wiseman)

Travelogue*

The first explorers gave the name of Badlands to these immense rocky and chaotic territories, unfit for agriculture and human occupation.

Others have come, geologists, archaeologists, paleontologists to dig into the secrets of these unimaginable lands. A century later, more than 150 complete dinosaur skeletons from 50 species and more than 450 fossils of various organisms from the same period have been found here in these ancient lands.

The disappearance of the dinosaurs and several other animal and plant species of the Cretaceous era, would have occurred approximately 66 million years ago, following a sudden climatic cooling resulting from the impact of an asteroid with Earth (Yucatan, Mexico).

_____________

At the end of the day, the explorer paused in front of the great River of Time flowing below. The words of the Wiseman came back to him then, urging. Then he realized that he, too, was living a vital story.

Not an interesting design choice by the architect, but the result of missing stairs. Taken at Fort de Condé-sur-Aisne, France.

Also known as Fort de Condé and Fort Pille - originally built in 1877-1883 as a part of the Séré de Rivières defence system (which was begun in 1874) by Dollot and Fortier. Already in the 1880's it was deemed as unfit for modern warfare, and used for storage and as a casernement for military personal. It was abandoned in 1912.

But it would have a real revival in the First World War - it was strategically placed close to Chemin des Dames of great strategic importance for both sides in the war. This meant that the place was fiercely fought over and changed hands several times during the war.

Now it functions as a historical monument, an art exhibition centre and theatrical entertainment - and as a haven for rabbits.

Through the Ages

(Note: This text is an allegory inspired by a very current scientific theory, summarized in the link below)

Life seemed to rise to the assault of the Great Nothing,

This dead mountain which reigned in the center of Terra Nova, a high plateau of Poësia ...

Thousands of trees and plants seeking to colonize every fold of this non-living space like so many fighters on a battlefield.

________

This conquering view of life as we know it is uniquely human. It feeds on both popular culture (science fiction) and Science itself, legitimately curious about finding signs of life beyond Earth (ETI). We want to believe it! But for now…

_______

There, the Great Nothing resisted the expansion of vegetation, its hostile environment being unfit for life as we know it ... except, perhaps, in its simplest expressions, of the order of the molecule …

Standing on the promontory that allowed me to observe the present forces, the questions rush in my head: Would Nothingness be the dominant state of the Universe? Could organic life - moreover, its intelligent forms - be an exceptional situation, a highly improbable event on the slow trajectory of evolution? And the essential question I dreaded the answer to: Are we alone in the Universe?

If this hypothesis were to find its way through time, a pressing, existential reality would then impose itself on all of Darwin's children: life on Earth, in all its forms, is an extremely precious heritage we have, and us, the intelligent species, have the immense responsibility to preserve it.

A World made by Atomes

Small Atomes of themselves a World may make,

As being subtle, and of every shape:

And as they dance about, fit places finde,

Such Formes as best agree, make every kinde.

For when we build a house of Bricke, and Stone,

We lay them even, every one by one:

And when we finde a gap that's big, or small,

We seeke out Stones, to fit that place withall.

For when not fit, too big, or little be,

They fall away, and cannot stay we see.

So Atomes, as they dance, finde places fit,

They there remaine, lye close, and fast will sticke.

Those that unfit, the rest that rove about,

Do never leave, untill they thrust them out.

Thus by their severall Motions, and their Formes,

As severall work-men serve each others turnes.

And thus, by chance, may a New World create:

Or else predestined to worke my Fate.

The apse in the church. The paintings in the apse are 17th century, while the choir has murals dated to around 1200. In the middle ages, this whole place was covered with those older murals, but they were painted over (remains of the older work has been found underneath). The altar itself is built into the wall and is an original from the building of the church.

A small, Romanesque church in Myresjö, Småland, Sweden - built in the middle of the 12th century. The church was for a long time parish-church, but deemed unfit for this in 1814 by the bishop. In 1879 the new church was inaugurated (a church the parish shared with neighbouring Lannaskede) and this one was abandoned for some 50 years before it was saved because people finally realized that this was something quite special (today it is considered a church of national interest). During the time it was abandoned it lost most of its roof, but not over the choir and apse, which is why the murals in this part of the church has survived. Some of the original furnishings of the church have also survived.

They left in 1937 as the Anglesey barracks were then stated unfit for human habitation.

St. James's Park is the oldest of the Royal Parks of London and it has a small lake with two islands, West Island, and Duck Island, which is named for the collection of waterfowl. This includes a resident colony of pelicans, which has been a feature of the park since the first gift of the birds from a Russian ambassador in 1664. Though an earlier building existed on the island, the present Duck Island Cottage was built between September 1840 and April 1841 and became the residence of the birdkeeper by 1870. However, by the death of the veteran Bird Keeper, Thomas Hinton, who lived there for more than 50 years until 1953, it was in a state of disrepair, not least due to air raid damage from 1940, and considered unfit for human habitation. Having been saved from demolition it was extended and fully restored, to become the headquarters of the London Historic Parks and Gardens Trust in 1994.

Introduction

Gospel HymnThose Who Don’t Accept the Truth Aren’t Fit for Salvation

I

In hearing truth and word of life,

you may think only one word aligns

out of thousands of these words

with your thoughts and with the Bible, the Bible.

Seek in that 10,000th of words.

God advises humbleness,

to not be over-confident, to not exalt yourself.

Aren’t you unfit for God’s salvation

if you can’t accept truth clearly spoken?

Aren’t you one who lacks the fortune

to return before God at His throne,

to return before God at His throne?

II

Holding such meager reverence for God

will gain you greater light, greater light.

If you vet and ponder these words,

you’ll see if it’s truth, if it’s life, if it’s life.

Don’t blindly condemn God’s words

’cause of false Christs in the last days.

Do not blaspheme Holy Spirit

’cause you fear being led astray.

Aren’t you unfit for God’s salvation

if you can’t accept truth clearly spoken?

Aren’t you one who lacks the fortune

to return before God at His throne,

to return before God at His throne?

III

After much seeking and studying,

if you still think these words are not

the truth, the way, or God’s expressions,

you’ll be punished, your blessing’s lost, lost.

Aren’t you unfit for God’s salvation

if you can’t accept truth clearly spoken?

Aren’t you one who lacks the fortune

to return before God at His throne,

to return before God at His throne?

In August 1979, a clean 45071 passes the Willington power station complex with a long, unfitted and loaded coal train.

By this date the largest British coal-fired power stations were equipped with the 'merry go round' (MGR) system. This system eliminated the need for shunting of incoming trains at the power stations, though requiring the installation of loading bunkers at the supplying collieries..

The sidings visible on the left of this image are part of Willington power station, a site that in 1979 wasn't fitted for the MGR system. Consequently, it had over 10 miles of track used to shunt and store coal wagons feeding the station. Willington was converted to use the MGR system in 1981, and finally ceased generating electricity in 1999.

I must always climb church towers if they are open and take photos, it's a rule. Lockdown had left me quite unfit it turned out, I was warm by the time I got to the top of here. Classic view from Great St Mary's church. Photography style of "stand in front of something nice and press the button", which is one of my favourites.

Like a trestle over not too troubled waters, it is back to the cat and me after the departure of family. We had a terrific time for the most part, culminating with my computer dying after 15 years of service yesterday. Happily, I was able to save all my photos in a flash drive and have uploaded them onto this. Now if I can figure out how to find them, I should be fine. I am typing on what seems to be a miniature keyboard unfit for my masculine hands and looking at a new monitor which bears no resemblance in any way, including photo presentation, to my previous square box. Gone is my beloved XP and Windows 10 grins at me in challenge. Sigh...

In looking over my photostream, I see a great difference in what I thought I was uploading and what I now see. I assume you have seen the latter and I offer apologies and thanks for your loyalty. Some are not pleasing at all. In any event, this will be the first upload of a new era. Stay tuned. As soon as I can figure out what I'm doing, all should be well. At least I found Flickr...though I'm always unsure as to whether that is a good thing.

Thai dogs

Thailand - A photo without human presence. It's rare. This time it is the dogs who are the stars of this scene which reflects the tranquility of the place. Stray dogs such as we come across throughout Asia. But in Thailand, I noticed that these animals are not undernourished. The reason ? They have long understood that fishing boats returning to port throw fish unfit for human consumption overboard. These fish are not lost on everyone.

Welcome to the UK Plc, a Mickey Mouse operation with a 'caretaker' leader, already found to be unfit for public office by his own political party, attempting to remain in charge of the nuclear launch codes until Autumn! His "resignation", in which he did not actually resign, clearly blamed everyone else - the 'Westminster Herd' and he takes no responsibility for the constant lies, scandals and destruction of our very democracy. The honour-based system has to go because it just takes one dishonourable leader to bring the country to it's knees and ruin our global reputation. We are a laughing stock around the world. I don't much care which party or leader is in charge for the time being but we MUST have someone with honesty and integrity at the lead, one who can positively influence those around them rather than corrupt them. Our Mickey Mouse operation must be fixed.

Old Amoco Station Lacon Illinois. Alas, no longer do we hear the familiar and reassuring “Ding!” as we roll over the black rubber bell tubing. No longer does the pump jockey come out of the building to wipe your windshield and to check your oil with the rag in his back pocket. There is an air gauge in his shirt pocket. No longer do you hear the standard oft repeated question, “regular or ethyl?” Where did it all go? There is an old swivel chair in front of the station desk that looks like it came down from Jacob and Esau. Oh yes, the sign states that they have clean restrooms. Free maps? What are those for. Who would need that?

No longer does the signage read twenty nine-nine. The leathery unfit to eat Slim Jim sausages are gone too along with the ten cent Cokes. What is your favorite memory?

it won't be able to provide us with shelter, food, and comfort any longer, just as surely as a house we abuse and neglect will be condemned as unfit for human habitation sooner or later :-(

The Smallest House in Great Britain, also known as the Quay House was built in the 16th century and last occupied in 1900, when it was declared unfit for human habitation. The house is a tourist attraction on the quay in Conwy, Wales. It is reputed to be Britain's smallest house. Wikipedia

The Nile River, meandering from southern Egypt to the Mediterranean, has sustained the nearly 90 million people it serves. However, pollution is turning this vital waterway into a source of death and disease. The Egyptian Organisation for Human Rights reports that around 4.5 million tons of pollutants—including untreated or partially treated industrial waste, agricultural runoff, and sewage—contaminate the Nile annually. Nearly half of Egypt's population drinks water that is polluted or unfit for consumption.

To a Haggis

All hail your honest rounded face,

Great chieftain of the pudding race;

Above them all you take your place,

Beef, tripe, or lamb:

You're worthy of a grace

As long as my arm.

The groaning trencher there you fill,

Your sides are like a distant hill

Your pin would help to mend a mill,

In time of need,

While through your pores the dews distil,

Like amber bead.

His knife the rustic goodman wipes,

To cut you through with all his might,

Revealing your gushing entrails bright,

Like any ditch;

And then, what a glorious sight,

Warm, welcome, rich.

Then plate for plate they stretch and strive,

Devil take the hindmost, on they drive,

Till all the bloated stomachs by and by,

Are tight as drums.

The rustic goodman with a sigh,

His thanks he hums.

Let them that o'er his French ragout,

Or hotchpotch fit only for a sow,

Or fricassee that'll make you spew,

And with no wonder;

Look down with sneering scornful view,

On such a dinner.

Poor devil, see him eat his trash,

As feckless as a withered rush,

His spindly legs and good whip-lash,

His little feet

Through floods or over fields to dash,

O how unfit.

But, mark the rustic, haggis-fed;

The trembling earth resounds his tread,

Grasp in his ample hands a flail

He'll make it whistle,

Stout legs and arms that never fail,

Proud as the thistle.

You powers that make mankind your care,

And dish them out their bill of fare.

Old Scotland wants no stinking ware,

That slops in dishes;

But if you grant her grateful prayer,

Give her a haggis.

2019 Gospel hymn "Those Who Don't Accept the Truth Aren't Fit for Salvation" | Exhortation of God

www.holyspiritspeaks.org/videos/accept-the-truth-for-salv...

Introduction

I

In hearing truth and word of life,

you may think only one word aligns

out of thousands of these words

with your thoughts and with the Bible, the Bible.

Seek in that 10,000th of words.

God advises humbleness,

to not be over-confident, to not exalt yourself.

Aren’t you unfit for God’s salvation

if you can’t accept truth clearly spoken?

Aren’t you one who lacks the fortune

to return before God at His throne,

to return before God at His throne?

II

Holding such meager reverence for God

will gain you greater light, greater light.

If you vet and ponder these words,

you’ll see if it’s truth, if it’s life, if it’s life.

Don’t blindly condemn God's words

’cause of false Christs in the last days.

Do not blaspheme Holy Spirit

’cause you fear being led astray.

Aren’t you unfit for God’s salvation

if you can’t accept truth clearly spoken?

Aren’t you one who lacks the fortune

to return before God at His throne,

to return before God at His throne?

III

After much seeking and studying,

if you still think these words are not

the truth, the way, or God’s expressions,

you’ll be punished, your blessing’s lost, lost.

Aren’t you unfit for God’s salvation

if you can’t accept truth clearly spoken?

Aren’t you one who lacks the fortune

to return before God at His throne,

to return before God at His throne?

A beautiful area to visit should you visit Bridlington. Just over six miles or so away the bay still used by fishermen and for pleasure boat rides. Sheltered by the high cliffs it is ideal for relaxation and for the kids to play on the golden beach.

When the tide is out the caves can be explored perhaps once used by smugglers.

WARNING- The access is very steep and the return is not for the unfit.

Lord Acton

John Emerich Edward Dalberg-Acton, (1834 – 1902), better known as Lord Acton, was an English Catholic historian, politician, and writer. He is best remembered for the remark he wrote in a letter to an Anglican bishop in 1887: "Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely"

Interior of the church. The choir has murals from around the year 1200, the paintings in the apse from the 17th century. The pulpit dates to 1649. The big painting is an epitaph for the local vicar Johannes Petri Strelingius (1647-1711), his wife Brita Jonasdotter Dusæa and their children.

Myresjö old church is a small, Romanesque church in the small town of the same namn, in Småland, Sweden - built in the middle of the 12th century.

At the foothills of this spectacular volcanic mountain is an expanse of hot springs called Hverir that are known for their variety. You will also discover fumaroles, mud pools, and mud pots that all seem to be boiling with relentless energy. The pass Námaskarð is strategically located at a short distance from the Krafla volcano system as well as other interesting geological spots like Búrfellshraun lava field and the desert Mývatnsöræfi.

Námaskarð earns its notoriety chiefly because of its sulfurous mud springs called solfataras and steam springs called fumaroles. Though you will scarcely find any pure water spring in this wonderful geothermal site of Iceland, the beauty of the colorful minerals defies all comparison. The gigantic size of the mud craters is what makes you go 'wow' at the sight of them.

The other thing that is sure to strike you about Námaskarð is the sheer lack of vegetation. The constant emission of the fumes has made the ground utterly sterile and acidic, unfit to sustain any floras and faunas. You must bear in mind that the fumes can be harmful to humans as well.

Park up at Osmaston Village pond, take the left hand bridle path for a little over half a mile and the Sawmill is just over the river.

It’s an easy walk down, the walk back, errm, let’s say can be deceptively challenging if you have dodgy legs / lungs / or any type of arthritis.

I must admit climbing the constant incline had me wheezing as if I was a forty fags a day man...jeez I’m so unfit.

That there are men with heads nearly or quite as empty as the camera they use is a very unfortunate fact, but what of that? Are there not also men who, unfit in their intellectual capacity for the meanest mechanical work, nevertheless daub canvas or stain paper? ... But does this prove that painting is no fine art?

OK, it may not be art but it marks the first time I have ventured out with my camera since October!

I remembered something important and made a discovery.

Firstly I remembered how much I love being at the seaside with my camera, especially when it's more or less deserted.

And the discovery? OMG I am now so unfit and all my hiking clothes have shrunk! Months of living the hermit lifestyle haven't been kind!

Still, baby steps

In you, I know peace. You bring the gift of understanding, acceptance. In you. I know selflessness. You listen and provide insight, comfort. In you. I know forgiveness. You guide me back to myself, you light my way home. I am not lacking, I am not unfit.
