Nyambya Tea Company is a family owned and operated tea factory in Western Uganda located in the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains.
The tea plantations were originally partially planted in the late 1960’s and over the years additional planted areas have been added. In 2010 our own tea factory was commissioned in order to cope with increasing volume of Green Leaf from our plantations and neighbouring farmers. (www.nyambyatea.com)

The Rothschild Giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis rothschildi) is among the most endangered giraffe subspecies with only a few hundred members in the wild. It is named after the famous family of the Tring Museum's founder, Lord Walter Rothschild, and is also known as the Baringo Giraffe, after the Lake Baringo area of Kenya, or as the Ugandan Giraffe. All of those that are living in the wild are in protected areas in Kenya and Uganda. (Recently it has been proposed that the Rothschild Giraffe is actually a separate species from other giraffes and not a giraffe subspecies).

This pair was in Amboseli National Park. However, I saw the Crowned Cranes all over Kenya on this trip. They are the National Bird of Uganda, but seem to be doing well in Kenya too. Unfortunately, the Crowned Crane is considered Endangered and on the IUCN Red List. They are so beautiful, and definitely my favorite of the Cranes.
Do you know what type of birds these are? These are the endangered grey crowned cranes! They are the national birds of Uganda and are featured on the country's flag. They are monogamous and mate for life. What's really fun about them is they have been seen to congregate in large numbers in a ceremony akin to a wedding when two chicks are being married off. The new couple dance for a while before flying off together to start a new family. Isn't nature fascinating?
These young gorillas were so much fun to watch as they played with each other. How would you caption this shot?
This photo is from 1999 when i traveled to Uganda a few months after the gorilla trekking tourist killings had occured. The country lost most of its tourism in the wake of this massacre so there were very few vehicles with white people traveling the country. Children all over could hear our vehicle approaching and would run out of their houses yelling and waving "How are you?" We were more of an attraction to them than the gorillas were to us.
Seen on a safari drive through Murchison Falls National Park. The park is full of plains and wildlife was very plentiful.
On this trip to Uganda we used Ngoni Safaris Uganda. They provided excellent service. I highly recommend them. James was our guide while in the Murchison Falls area. We stayed at Pukuba Safari Lodge while visiting this part of Uganda.
