USAF Lockheed U2 "Dragon Lady" displaying at the RAF Fairford 2024 RIAT air show.
Nicknamed the Dragon Lady, the Lockheed U-2 first flew in 1955 from Groom Lake (known as Area 51) and has been in service ever since flying with a variety of organisations during its life including the USAF, CIA, NASA, and the Republic of China Air Force (Taiwan). The U-2 is a high-altitude aerial reconnaissance aircraft which was originally developed to spy on the USSR. The U-2 has also been used for scientific research and most recently to monitor balloons over US airspace.

The A-1 is a single seat attack aircraft that was in service from 1946 to 1980. It saw combat action in the Korean and Vietnam wars. In addition to the USAF, the A-1 was also used by the UK, Sweden, France and the Republic of Vietnam air forces. The F-22 is a modern stealth fighter that was developed in the late 1990's and came into service in 2005. It has seen combat service in the Middle East beginning in 2009.

On rare occasions, other members of the U.S. Cabinet and Congressional leaders have been authorized to fly aboard the C-32 for various missions. The C-32, since its debut, has also served as Air Force One in place of the larger VC-25A to airports that cannot accommodate the Boeing 747-based "jumbo" jet.

Taxing for departure from RAF Fairford after the 2024 RIAT airshow is this now rare sight of the USAF KC10 Extender from the"Travis AFB".
Sadly only a small handfull of this wonderful aircraft are flying as they get replaced by the new KC46 Pegasus.

After having some bad luck with clouds the last time, I was pretty happy to see this United States Air Force Boeing C-17A Globemaster III depart in sunshine at RAF Mildenhall
