An einem herlichen Frühlingstag fährt der D1 durch die Karpaten. Der Zug kommt von Rhakiv und fährt nach Iwano-Frankiwsk.

Eine Sektion der 2M62 1001 verkehrt mit ihrem netten kleinen 2-Wagen Wendezug durch die Karpaten. Der Zuglauf von Kolomya nach Rachiv ist zwar nicht besonders weit, trotzdem ist der Zug gute 4 Stunden unterwegs. Hier ist er an der Ausfahrt aus dem Ferienort Worochta und nimmt den Anstieg zum Pass von Voroneko in Angriff.
Although I titled this photo HOPE, it would take a miracle for the killing in Ukraine to finally stop. Last night I woke up and read the news about the shelling of Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. I couldn't calm down. But even during the day I read and heard such bad stories and saw terrible pictures that only this one word stuck in my head - HOPE!

Direkt hinter Salischtschyky wird die Dnister mit einer riesigen Brücke überquert. Der Verkehr auf der Brücke ist äusserst spärlich. Es gibt ein Regionalzugpaar von Kolomya nach Salischtschyky welches um die Mittagszeit in Salischtschyky wendet. Und dann gibt es, zumindest in diesem Jahr, sogar ein Fernverkehrszug von Rhachiv nach Kiew über die Brücke - diese Fahrten finden aber bei Dunkelheit statt. So ist dieser Regio, eine Sektion einer 2M62 mit Wendezug, die einzige Leistung bei Tageslicht überhaupt nach Süden. Wir hatten ein ziemliches Glück mit den Wolken ... denn es hätte auch schief gehen können.

Jeden morgen startet D968 in Chernivtsi und nimmt den Weg nach Osten. Vorbei an Larga befährt er eine Strecke die ihn auf seiner Fahrt einige male im Transit durch Moldavien führt. Sein Endbahnhof wird er erst um 14:04 Uhr erreichen.

"Forbidden zone". Many railway bridges in Ukraine are still fenced and guarded. One of them is the valley bridge north of Delyatin on the line to Ivano Frankivsk. Train 144 from Vorochta to Kiev climbes the last ascent before it will reach the neverending plains of central Ukraine.
Sometimes the cloud that always appears in the right moment for the train is a hole such as on the cloudy 22nd of April 2019 in western Ukraine when the local train from Jaremshe to Kolomyja crossed the bridge south of the station Delyatin. The leading loco is a converted 2M62, still lettered as 2M62 1001.
