Nittany and Bald Eagle 1602 (ex-PLE GP8) and 1603 (ex-RDG GP8) arrive Tyrone to interchange with Norfolk Southern. The train crosses the Little Juniata River and approaches the yard.
This, apparently, was an inhabited place until about 1968, but very little remains. This school is the best ambassador of Tyrone's past.
Nittany and Bald Eagle GP10 1804 rolls down Washington Street in Tyrone with interchange bound for Norfolk Southern on a warm spring morning.
The 1804 was built for the Pennsylvania Railroad as GP9 7118 in 1957 and was rebuilt as a GP10 by Illinois Central Gulf's Paducah Shops for Conrail in the late 1970's.
On a cloudy Monday morning, a Nittany & Bald Eagle train creeps down Washington Street in Tyrone on its way to interchange cars with Norfolk Southern.
Nittany & Bald Eagle's morning turn to Tyrone rolls south, heading under the Route 350 overpass. We saw it from the highway on our way to MG Tower, and stopped to grab a couple shots on the way.
Repainting the nose and cab was a huge improvement over the faded ATSF colors, I just wish they had repainted the long hood as well - though its a moot point now, as that unit has since been scrapped.
NBER-4 rolls up on Tyrone, Pennsylvania heading down the center of Washington Avenue towards the NS interchange.
After a quick interchange with NS job C42 at Wilson Yard, NBER-1 heads back east on the Bald Eagle Branch

These rusty pillars are all that remain from a great railway bridge that was constructed in around the turn of the century. It was part of the "Great Northern Railway" line (GNR) that was established throughout Ireland in 1883. This old bridge was once a major part of the Industrial Era that has since long gone. Sadly after 75 years’ service, the "Great Northern Railway" shut down operations in 1957.
Looking down on this silent calm river & watching everything made me think on how fast times have changed. Only 70 years ago these waters would have never ceased to ripple, by the amount of merchant barges & boats sailing both ways. Everything has moved on from steam trains to planes and cars etc who knows what technology tomorrow brings?
Times have certainly changed & moved forward by the modern advances in freight lorries, aeroplanes & internet deliveries. Nowadays calm mirrored reflections are a common sight on these silent riverbanks….. in my book this is wonderful as it’s how this river was for thousands of years prior & how it should now remain once again, the way nature intended 🙏

Each year I eagerly await our annual fireworks show to celebrate Halloween. It’s the one night per year where there’s a ten-minute window of opportunity to capture these stunning fireworks. If it’s raining heavily or too windy, then we must sadly wait another year
However… weather “played ball” tonight and what a fantastic fireworks show from Strabane I’m so chuffed for such a small town’s large effort. It certainly did not disappoint this year once again! Thank you Derry City & Strabane District Council for another amazing event. Much appreciated folks 👏
