I have been extremely busy with remodeling my house, learning to use TurboTax, and training a new puppy. So Flickr and photography have been on the back burner.

However, I just bought a new camera and fortunately I had a chance to try it out. I am quite pleased with the results.

This is a full-frame shot of a Ring-billed gull. It's not a difficult flight shot, but the eye auto-focus was spot-on and I love the Canon colors.

I took this with the Sigma 105 mm lens I returned to Amazon. No, I didn't dislike it. It's a very nice lens. I had taken part of my tax refund and had Turbotax give it to me as an Amazon gift card (to which they added 10% ... nice). I meant to purchase the lens against that card, but instead they charged my credit card. They wouldn't change it, so I returned it. My replacement (the same lens) is coming tomorrow ... Can't wait :) ...

In November, I produced and photographed the new Turbotax images, for the front page of their website & other campaign related uses.

WEEK 14 – Batesville Kroger, Set IV

Aisles 14 and 15 are home to frozen foods; for this shot, we’ve headed down the latter, which is also the store’s final aisle, along the left-side interior wall. Unfortunately, the freezer department sign here looks like it’s seen some better days. Just what is it with this department sign that causes it in particular to encounter so many issues?! I’ve got a theory that could answer my own question – it’s the fact that these letters are wall-mounted, instead of placed on a basket sign. By that logic, though, this same issue should be plaguing all the lunch meat department signs in 2012 décor Kroger stores as well – so who knows, maybe it really is just something about this department in particular!

Refund - in process

Woot Woot Woot! Thank you and good night.

Unrelated things I wrote elsewhere, in response to things other people had written:

"I want to start a campaign to encourage the US Mint to discontinue production of pennies: Stop Making Cents -- Unless the Talking Heads frontman sued me over the name -- that would be a major byrne!"

"Spacely Sprockets would be doing so much better if Spacely didn't keep firing people, promoting them to vice-president, firing them again, then rehiring them back in their old jobs. Their costs on business cards alone must be staggering."

"This Turbotax review has taken a grim turn."

The petals look a bit bedraggled.. From the archives way back in August

I've spent a totally frustrating evening with TurboTax! The site keeps crashing - it's super annoying - they must know that tons of people are going to be working on their taxes at this time...

so tax preparation costs you $20 but if you don't have a credit card they will deduct it from your refund for a slim $25 extra.

I'm not sure sure it takes money to make money, but it's good to have money to keep from losing money.

SET 2 – HLT Remodel: 2-17-2023

The green neon wave continues in this image, rounding the corner into the electronics department proper. (Technically, that front wall is occupied by health and beauty aisles.) The neon pairs well with the vintage electronics boat! Another of those remodel wayfinder standees can be seen on the leftmost edge of the image, joined by a TurboTax display. I’ve been getting emails about that stuff already (and it’s only mid-January as I write this)… ugh. Yes, I am an accountant, but no, I do not know how to do your taxes (I can barely do my own) XD

I love TurboTax. Where else would I get a question about the Ottoman Empire?

If this guy looks a bit clueless, that's how I'm feeling. I've been working on my tax returns for the past couple of day (Just recently got the last, needed forms) & thought I was all done. Then, I realized I'd left a couple of numbers out. Numbers make me feel very inadequate & I don't think Turbotax is my friend, either! I think this is a sheep (as opposed to a goat), seen at Hahn Farm in Salt Point, New York, USA on March 24, 2013.

Each year I do my taxes as a kind of penance. I usually do them on Good Friday, after attending church services, which helps reduce my fear and grumbling over what is a cumbersome ordeal for me. I'm starting earlier this year, to complete them this weekend so I can have them reviewed on Good Friday instead.

After much procrastination, which included filing papers, organizing my pens, picking up generally around my office, (and let's not forget, taking this photo!) I finally sat down to my desk with the necessary items for the job.

TurboTax is loaded and all the updates are downloaded. Now I've started. Wish me luck.

I don't know what it is... I like puzzles & math, I have Quicken & TurboTax, but somehow doing taxes absolutely breaks my brain. Maybe it's because I always seem to wait until the last minute to tackle the job... but I only put it off because I dread it so much... a vicious cycle, I guess.

This is an old piece, but I haven't posted it here, & I thought other tax-tortured freelancers might take comfort in knowing they are not alone.

Now back to Schedule C.

The backspin is for the refund and for not having to do them. (my wife did them) I'm the accountant and she's doing the taxes? Whoopie!

Tax time each year is a chore for most of us. This year I did them earlier than usual. There are many small things I need to do to muster up the courage and fortitude to begin! Organizing the paperwork, getting the computer program, clearing a space, coffee, checkbook register,... and ambience.

For Macro Mondays theme of "frustrations" on 03/14/2011.

This is very frustrating for some, though not usually for me since I prepare taxes for others.

It always feels like I've gained freedom when I file my taxes.. that day came today five days from the due date.. woo hoo! All done within a hour or two.. love filing online especially since we have to file two forms (Federal & Provincial) which Turbo Tax nicely combines together...

From TurboTax's crowdsourced "ask the community" features, a tax filer suggests that he might have a good expense to deduct on this year's taxes. The community thinks perhaps not.
