Trondheim, Norway was founded by the Vikings in the 10th century. It is one of the most historically significant cities in Norway. The city center is Bakklandet, which has been beautifully preserved since it was first settled in the early 17th century.

The colorful wharves of Bakklandet have a long history as storage facilities for cargo that was brought in by ships from all over Europe. They were also used as defensive positions during enemy attacks. The oldest wharves were built around 1700 on the banks of the River Nidelva. Some were lost in fires but a few of the original wooden buildings remain today. Many of these historic structures have been converted to private homes.

Greetings from Santiago, Chile, last day in South America for me this year, I'm definitely ready to go back home. Happy Tuesday to everyone.

The old storage town with the colourful cottages on the Nidelva is one of the most beautiful sights of Trondheim. Many of the venerable buildings now house restaurants and cafés. The most beautiful view of the river and the colourful houses is from the also worth seeing bridge Gamle Bybro.

Of all the places we visited in Norway we were only unlucky with the weather in Trondheim . It was green damp and cold whilst we were there . In spite of the gloom these old warehouses stand out quite well next to the Nideiva River . In the background you can just see the spire of the 11th century, Nidaros Cathedral.

THANKS FOR YOUR VISITING BUT CAN I ASK YOU NOT TO FAVE AN IMAGE WITHOUT ALSO MAKING A COMMENT. MANY THANKS KEITH. ANYONE MAKING MULTIPLE FAVES WITHOUT COMMENTS WILL SIMPLY BE BLOCKED

Nidaros Cathedral in Trondheim (old name of the city: Nidaros) is one of the most important churches in Norway, it is considered a national shrine. It was the cathedral of the Norwegian metropolitans since 1152. Because the shrine of Olaf the Saint was located here behind the high altar, the cathedral was also nicknamed the "Heart of Norway". After the Reformation it became the cathedral of the Lutheran bishops of Trondheim. In the Middle Ages and from 1818 to 1906, Nidaros Cathedral was the coronation site of Norwegian kings. Seven kings were crowned and ten were buried here

Trondheim is a city on the Trondheim Fjord, in central Norway. Dating back to the 11th century, Gothic Nidaros Cathedral features an ornate rose window and a detailed west facade. Nearby, the Archbishop’s Palace Museum houses archaeological findings and sculptures, including gargoyles, removed from the cathedral. Ringve Museum is a music museum in a former manor house and barn. ― Google

Wharves, warehouses and boathouses at the mouth of the Nidelva river in Trondheim. The old wharf buildings that have been preserved, line both sides of the Nidelva – and the oldest of these are from the 18th century. One of the most photogenic area in Trondheim.

One of the warehouses that can be seen from the Gamle Bybro, obviously this picture was not taken from the famous bridge but from the riverside.
