Trisul - The Himalayan Peak
Trisul is a group of three Himalayan mountain peaks of western Kumaun, with the highest (Trisul I) reaching 7120m. The three peaks resemble a trident - in Hindi/Sanskrit, Trishula, trident, is the weapon of Lord Shiva. The Trishul group forms the southwest corner of the ring of peaks enclosing the Nanda Devi Sanctuary, about 15 kilometres (9 mi) west-southwest of Nanda Devi itself. The main peak, Trisul I, was the first peak over 7,000 m (22,970 ft) to have ever been climbed, in 1907.
Trisul I 7,120 m
Trisul II 6,690 m
Trisul III 6,007 m
Trisul I
T. G. Longstaff made the first climbing reconnaissance of Trisul, in September 1905, focussing on the western and southern sides. He returned in 1907 with two other Britons, three Alpine guides, and a number of Gurkhas. They ascended through the Rishiganga valley, to the north of the peak, onto the Trisul Glacier, which lies on the east side. From there they climbed the northeast flank to the north ridge, reaching the summit on 12 June. At the time Trisul was probably the highest mountain to have been climbed. The climb was noted also for the first use of supplementary oxygen in a major climb. During the 1950s Harold Williams led Indian Army expeditions to the summit.
Routes on the west face and south ridge of Trisul I have also been climbed. The west face was first ascended in 1976; this was the first ascent of the main summit not using the first-ascent route.
Trisul II and III
Trisul II and Trisul III were first climbed in 1960 by the Yugoslav team JAHO I (sl). They climbed from the Bidalgwar glacier, achieving the summit of Trisul II via the southern ridge and Trisul III via the north ridge.

On dit que le lac a été formé à partir du creusement de la terre par le trident (trishula) du dieu hindou Shiva, après qu'il a bu le poison de Samudramanthan et voulait désespérément de l'eau froide pour étancher la chaleur écrasante du poison.

As we walked further towards Simbey Bugyal, the Himalayas started revealing beautiful peaks like Nandaghunti and a little part of Trishul (on the right)...and the highland walk became comfortable except the windy breeze....

In the darkness of the valley, the 23140ft Trishul peak shining high in the sky catching early morning light.
Almost reached the summit camp in Simbey Bugyal on trek to Saptkund lakes in Garhwal Himalayas, India
This prominent peak is an odd one. Shaped like a trident inclined northeast ,the northern peak is the highest at 23360ft asl, middle peak at 21950ft and the southern peak at 19710 ft. At sunrise the eastern face of the peak appears as an extended massif blisteringly bright. From the south( which is the case here) the trident incarnation can be surmised but very evident from a more western vantage like Gwaldam.
Friends, leaving tonight for another tryst with the Himalayas....
Here I present an inimitable face of Trishul for you all to enjoy...taken from Saptkund region in Garhwal Himalayas, India...
Hope to meet you soon !!

"To see the greatness of a mountain, one must keep one's distance; to understand its form, one must move around it; to experience its moods, one must see it at sunrise and sunset, at noon and at midnight, in sun and in rain, in snow and in storm, in summer and in winter and in all the other seasons...Mountains grow and decay, they breathe and pulsate with life. They attract and collect invisible energies from their surroundings: the forces of the air, of the water, of electricity and magnetism; they create winds, clouds, thunderstorms, rains, waterfalls, and rivers. They fill their surroundings with active life and give shelter to innumerable beings. Such is the greatness of mighty mountains." ~ The Way of the White Clouds, Lama Anagarika Govinda

Photo part of the Himalaya range taken from Kausani, in Uttarakhand where I stayed for 3 days waiting for the weather to clear, on day 3 I got a great view of the Trisul. Very lucky as the mountains can stay cloud covered for weeks. (22,907 feet high)
