A nicely painted electrical box with a little graffiti that matches the tree! In the Naenae massive.
Las Cruces, New Mexico with the Organ Mountains in the background. Taken 11 April 2023 at 7:25 PM with sunset at 7:34 PM. Cropped section from a 7 image pano shot at 116mm.
While this looks a like it was taken with moonlight, it's actually a bit of sliding trickery with B&W processing, darkening the shadows and blacking out the sky. In reality, it was taken at just about sunset which accounts for the long shadows and vehicle lights.
The city ranges from approximately 3 to 9 miles away from where I'm standing at the I-10 Rest Stop and then runs to the Organ Mountains. The peak, Organ Needle is 18.4 miles away and lies 9,018 feet above sea level.

Incredibly this is not Photoshop trickery or infrared, this is the result of freezing fog (hoarfrost) yesterday morning!
An absolute joy to see this with all the tree turning white without snow or frost on the ground, I couldn't believe my luck when I stumbled across this stunning tree!

Sometimes I wonder whether we make reality appear all too strange and artificial with all our camera trickery. Take these two images for instance: I cannot make up my mind for I love to see the real power of this waterfall, which can only be appreciated by the left image shot with normal shutter speed. But I also love the alien-like smoothness and strange appeal of the long exposure. Any thoughts guys?

Look at this photo carefully.
It’s not Photoshop trickery, it’s two real shooting stars. Intersecting each other so perfectly so as to form an even cross on a clear night’s sky.
It was weeks later before I saw this for myself while looking back through my frames. In one 30second window of time two shooting stars crossed each others paths in an unbelievably small part of the world that just happened to be in front of my camera.
When my star met yours.
"...I never said I would stay to the end
I'd leave you with babies and hoping for secrecy
Screaming like this in the hole of sincerity
Scream with me over and over and over
I leave you with photographs, pictures of trickery
And stains on the carpet and stains on the memory
Songs about happiness murmured in dreams
And we both of us knew how the end always is
How the end always is"
My favorite song of one of my all-time favorite rock albums. In my humble opinion, the best album of the 80's.

So, finally Monday arrives (after a completely abysmal Saturday and Sunday in as far as Light is concerned) and so does the Light. I did a quick scout for the caterpillar (planned for next post), nowhere to be seen. Settling down on the bench that was used for the bee shot seemed like the thing to do. Contemplating if I should change up my gear to take advantage of the light. Nahh, too much effort. I noticed the Blue Jays in a frenzy over the peanuts. I was still disturbed over the fact that someone, you know who you are, had posted a shot of a Nuthatch in an upright feeding position. That is highly unusual. Up here, the Nuthatch has taken it upon himself to teach the Blue Jays how to do it his way. I had observed that behavior for a while and thus I came up with my purpose for this Monday. I talked the Nuthatch into getting his top student to perform this acrobatic feat so I could document this. I watched in wonder as the Blue Jay followed his sensei’s instructions. If other people can show Nuthatches right-side-up, I can certainly display a Blue Jay upside-down. So, here we are; no trickery using software nor the use of any super glue.
Enjoy what’s left of this weekend.
I trekked down to Laguna Beach this evening in hopes of catching some cloud coverage, but alas it wasn't meant to be. The tide was at its lowest level exposing this crevice. I climbed down in and setup my comp over the water. It wasn't until I returned home and started processing that I noticed this little fella hiding in the shadows. No photoshop trickery here this is the actual photo with minor processing. The hair stood up on the back of my neck momentarily when I noticed him there on the right side my composition.

the air the wind the rain and the fire
touch us if you can
we can hold a beating heart
we can kiss the tender hand
but love will not be held
by even giants corporate hands of the land
why then do we fight and kill
make people scream and shrill
when the very thing that keeps us alive
is locked up inside
our hearts.
the trickery abounds
in the deadly spiritual grounds
of unseen power and might
they sway us as they may
by telling us to stay
focused on passing trends and follies
while the truth is like water wind and air
there
everywhere
just touch it with the hands of your heart
and become
a part
of the invisible body.
The Panthéon is a magnificent mausoleum in the Latin Quarter of Paris. No Photoshop trickery here but three reflections of the dome don't make sense unless you are aware that the residential buildings along Place du Panthéon have a thick perspex protective layer placed over the historic windows on the ground floor to protect them.
Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexations to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism. Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass. Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be. And whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

During my stay on the side of the road, capturing the sunset, taking in the color, breathing that fresh mountain air I slipped past Golden Hour... well past sunset... right into Blue hour. This was taken about twenty minutes after the sun had set, right around the time I was about to pack up, but I couldn't be bothered to step away from my tripod. Rarely do I get to see the sky turn such brilliant shades, so I stayed, transfixed between my camera, and this luminous sky ahead. I had to snap out of it for a moment to remember to shoot a nice panorama of the scene, to truly bring the entirety of the sky to you... Watching this sunset brought me back to my childhood, standing atop the ridge with my grandparents, mother, and other members of the family. To think, I was going to simply stay home.... No camera trickery here, no exposure bracketing... a little photo editing to bring the colors back out with the help of my color checker card, and a bit of nostalgia as I stared into the Halls of the Mountain King.

Oh I miss the kiss of treachery
The shameless kiss of vanity
The soft and the black and the velvety
Up tight against the side of me
And mouth and eyes and heart all bleed
And run in thickening streams of greed
As bit by bit it starts the need
To just let go
My party piece
Oh I miss the kiss of treachery
The aching kiss before I feed
The stench of a love for a younger meat
And the sound that it makes
When it cuts in deep
The holding up on bended knees
The addiction of duplicities
As bit by bit it starts the need
To just let go
My party piece
But I never said I would stay to the end
So I leave you with babies and hoping for frequency
Screaming like this in the hope of the secrecy
Screaming me over and over and over
I leave you with photographs
Pictures of trickery
Stains on the carpet and
Stains on the scenery
Songs about happiness murmured in dreams
When we both us knew
How the ending would be...
So it's all come back round to breaking apart again
Breaking apart like I'm made up of glass again
Making it up behind my back again
Holding my breath for the fear of sleep again
Holding it up behind my head again
Cut in deep to the heart of the bone again
Round and round and round
And it's coming apart again
Over and over and over
Now that I know that I'm breaking to pieces
I'll pull out my heart
And I'll feed it to anyone
Crying for sympathy
Crocodiles cry for the love of the crowd
And the three cheers from everyone
Dropping through sky
Through the glass of the roof
Through the roof of your mouth
Through the mouth of your eye
Through the eye of the needle
It's easier for me to get closer to heaven
Than ever feel whole again
I never said I would stay to the end
I knew I would leave you with babies and everything
Screaming like this in the hole of sincerity
Screaming me over and over and over
I leave you with photographs
Pictures of trickery
Stains on the carpet and
Stains on the memory
Songs about happiness murmured in dreams
When we both of us knew

Or at least I see a giant ghostly hand making a beckoning gesture in the top central cloud anyway! No photo editing trickery used, just slight saturation increase and cropping.
She has been travelling too long, her adventures in exotic foreign lands displayed in the tattoos that mark her body. Tonight she walks an uncertain path, in a land called Elvion. There is strong magic here, not at all welcoming to one of her demon race. "Are you sure this is the way, little one?" she growls to her fairy guide. "No trickery, you promised." "As if!" the small fairy scoffs as he floats in the air beside her. "My promise is my bond. I will keep you safe here." "Good, good," Bekka says, although, as the fairy notes, her sharp katana stays in her hand ...

Gwyneth delivers my secret bait ingrediant, Dracula's blood. It can only be transported in cold conditions, all the way from Bran Castle Brașov Romania. On the border between Transylvania and Wallachia.
Many people and organisations like The Secret Carp Society, The Crazy 88, and KGB, know her as MisShadow. Also known as The Snowman Abuser by the Brașov Police. Don't mess with her when she is carrying carrots in her handbag.
Gwyneth was once in charge of my 500 strong personal Eastern European Female Personal Protection Unit. With her good friend Spanky. Who are famous for wearing black rubber cat suits, and motor bike crash helmets.
Gwyneth and Spanky are the female equivalent of 'Monty Python'. Who sometimes had me in fits of laughter with some of their great ideas.
THOUGH THIS GREAT TEAM ARE NOT TO BE MESSED WITH!

This looks like a small peninsula--but it actually is a shaded foot of a rather tall, rocky hill. If you see it closely, you can see the trees to the side and above. An exposure trickery! Don't always believe with your eyes only ;)
The first image of 2018. Three simple SOOC shots of frost on the window with their colour saturation pushed to the max with a bit of contrast and that's it. The full collage was repeated several times as edge accents. I loved the intricate complexity of the frost patterns and thought it best not to 'busy up' the total image with trickery.
The title is the sub-title to one of the very best electronic music recordings of the 1970's, Klaus Schulze's "Mirage" ( 1977 ). Schulze wrote this music in the winter as his brother was dying and while it has the intense gravitas of that time to it, it also has an extraordinary, grand beauty that he never quite achieved again to this degree 100 albums on. The German translates to: "A Winter Landscape".
The simplicity ( relatively, for what's coming down the pike ) is a cold, crisp moment of Winter clarity and a nice way, I thought, to launch the New Year.
ALL the very BEST to everyone for 2018. May your creativity SOAR !!!

#MacroMonday
#PushPull
Size of the "S": 1 cm / 0,39 inches
Pushing works, too, to lift the lid of this small glass pillbox ;-) In my early teens, I had a soft spot for old stuff (I wouldn't call it antiquities, because these come at a different price). I found my then only second spectacle frames at a flea market, nicely silver-rimmed things, and used them for three or four years before I deemed myself too "grown-up" for them (at 15) and decided I needed someting more fashionable for my eyes. I loved old everything, cupboards, fashion (we are talking about fin de siècle), old lace, and old "luxury" pill boxes, you know, the small ones that are round or oval, with a nicely painted lid. This is a small glass box – old, of course – bought (for me, not by me) at a proper antique shop, and it was rather cheap, because the bottom part has a huge crack across the whole diameter and the lid, framed with brass, wasn't closing properly anymore already back then. The glass is of a beautiful turquoise-blue colour, with white bellflowers painted onto the upper lid. I've used both the glass box and the green Swarovski beads, which I keep inside and which once were part of a selfmade necklace, for another MM theme, "Trinket", you can check it out in the first comment, if you like.
My original idea of how to present this didn't quite work out: I envisioned a lightbeam shining through the opened lid, but how should I make the lightbeam visible? I cut a hole into a cardboard box and shone a flashlight through it, but that alone doesn't make the beam visible, of course. You need something else, smoke, steam, dust (no way!)... flour? Well, obviously I didn't use either for the image, because I somehow didn't have the nerve to play with fire and cardboard, or mess around with steam or flour, so in the end I decided to use an "old aquaintance" for some light trickery, the star filter. I will keep that "lightbeam idea" in mind, however, and hope that I can use it for a later MM theme once I have figured out how to set up eveything safely and conveniently.
Happy Macro Monday, Everyone, have a beautiful and safe week ahead!
