Ayer, después de algunas horas de caminata por senderos internos, llegamos a la Cumbre de El Roble, hermosa vista, excelente para relajarse, salvo por la repetidora de TVN que está en el lugar.
The morning was beautfiul.....after getting down at Khubi Fata one has to walk this dam to reach the base village of Khireshwar.

A friend and I decided to do a little trek. Since we were only going for 3-4 days, we left our backpacks at our lodgings in Kathmandu and took only our sleeping bag stuff sacks, filled with only the essentials. Sleeping bag, change of underwear and socks, a little bit of TP, toothbrush and toothpaste.
The red sack in the bottom left is mine, The large animal is the ever ubiquitous wandering water buffalo.
This is a little village we passed thru on the way to higher elevations.
You could always find food and lodgings, most often with a Nepalese family. The food was lentil soup and tea, the lodging was a straw mat on the floor sometimes shared with the family as the house could be small, one story, one room.
Sometimes the owner of a "restaurant" or whatever could speak minimal English and would ask a traveler for a name for his place to attract other vagabonds.
They'd paint it on a big plank of wood to hang outside over the door.
Even the foothills of Nepal are VERY steep and we were climbing up one that felt just shy of being perpendicular. As we approached the top, we first saw the roofs, a little higher we saw a little more. Then, there it was.

It cracked me up and I almost fell backwards down the hill.
I'm certain the owner had absolutely no idea what that even meant, but someone probably told him the name of their favorite place back home.
But I must admit, I did secretly entertain a tortured hope for a hamburger, fries and nice cold beer.
It served lentil soup and tea.
The track leads through the sacred Tōpuni area of the Hooker Valley, which has special significance and values to Ngāi Tahu iwi, towards Aoraki/Mount Cook.
From the first of three swing bridges along the way, enjoy the views over the Mueller Lake and listen for the rumbling of avalanches from the distant Mount Sefton. Try to spot them before they crash into the Mueller Glacier below.

For us in the wealthy nations, we can pay for Nepalese porters to carry our loads, and they earn less in a year than I carried in my pocket. If the country introduces more regulations, as with all regulated activities there will be costs, both financial and ethical. The tragedy in Nepal could have easily been avoided with a simple weather warning, but it remains a fact that porters will have died due to inadequate training and equipment. They are wonderful people who work to provide education and basics for their families and deserve everything they are paid and more. We could not enjoy these wonderful places without them
Wee opted to take the trail to the right rather than trek the jeep trail. It was absolutely breathtaking!

Stage # 37 Beget >> Sant Aniol d'Aguja (4/4)
Sant Aniol d'Aguja.
That's all we nedeed to complete our "home" landscape: a monastery!
The church building is on the edge of the stream Sant Aniol, which passes near the apse, and the valley of Aguja (or Sant Aniol).
The monastery was founded in 859; in the middle ages had been home to a Benedictine group of monks and later a parish and a sanctuary.
Opposite the church is the house of the tailor rectory and shelter, now abandoned and in ruins.
There were lots of people spending the Saturday afternoon here, but they left by day's end. Complying with the rules of the Pyrenees, we waited till 19:00 to raise our tent - meanwhile we were doing the laundry and cooking our spaghetti lyophilized.
As most of the trekkers do, we didn't wait for the sun to set down to go to our tent to sleep...

African elephants (Loxodonta africana), range throughout the savannahs of sub-Saharan Africa and the rainforests of central and West Africa.
Elephants are matriarchal, meaning they live in female-led groups. The matriarch is usually the biggest and oldest. She presides over a multi-generational herd that includes other females, called cows, and their young. Adult males, called bulls, tend to roam on their own, sometimes forming smaller, more loosely associated all-male groups.
Having a baby elephant is a serious commitment. Elephants have a longer pregnancy than any other mammal - almost 22 months. Cows usually give birth to one calf every two to four years. At birth, elephants already weigh some 200 pounds and stand about three feet tall.

Last month I had an opportunity to go on trekking with two others, near my inlaws village. The peak was very small. One can mout it up without any trekking gear, in 75 minutes. It was a nice experience and I enjoyed it in full; trekking and photographing.
