Well-known since antiquity, the treadmill was one of the best means of using man or animal power to raise weights. In his youth, Leondardo da Vinci saw models of it working on the building site of the cathedral dome in Florence.It was fitted on most of the cranes and excavating machines that he designed. Leonardo da Vinci also included the innovations of the Florentine architect and engineer Filippo Brunelleschi in his lifting engines: automatic gear change for different weights, and multiplication of the degree of freedom by combining movement and rotation.

the Treadmill was found in the Poor House which gave basic shelter to poor people of the Parish in exchange for backbreaking menial mind numbing work from dawn to dusk
Many who entered it's doors left in a wooden box.....in the UK we still had such places until the 1930's which is amazing when you think how Dark Ages the conditions were...

OK - It's time to go to the gym and get back on the treadmill.......they have LOTS of other machines, etc.....but I need someone to show me how to use them......yes, they did show me once, but I'm an old lady, and they need to show me several times, LOL!!
