For lunch, we walked through V. Sattui's vineyard to get to their deli, which has decent if overpriced food and a picnic area that seemed perfect for the warm June day.

Glorious Panchachuli peaks

The Panchachuli peaks are a group of five snow-capped Himalayan peaks lying at the end of the eastern Kumaon region, near Dugtu Village Darma valley. The peaks have altitudes ranging from 6,334 metres to 6,904 metres. They form the watershed between the Gori and the Darmaganga valleys.

This little church is located on the top of a hill (750 Mt) and is always visited by cyclists. Inside are many "old" bikes of cyclism champions of the past.

After we got back from the Mills Creek Falls trail, dehydrated and famished, we ate at the cafe at the Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center. Then it was back in the car to drive up Lassen Peak Highway (CA-89) through the park.

Along the way, we stopped; first at the Bumpass Hell parking lot, then at Emerald Lake, and finally at Lake Helen--named for the first woman to summit Lassen Peak and supposedly the snowiest place in California. Who knows if that is true. After all, you can't always believe what you read on the Internet.

I remember at the time I took this that I almost DIDN'T take it. The colors seemed muted, it was quite steamy/foggy/moody, and also, I was quite tired. Maybe I was feeling a bit melancholy or something. Anyway, for whatever reason, I took it. And then, when processing, I recalled the melancholy mood and decided to give it a nudge in that direction.

I ended up in Sydney on the final nights of Vivid Sydney, which is a short time where the city does many different light displays all over the city. On a few buildings, like this one, they use special projectors that work on 3D surfaces. Next time, I want to go back and spend longer running around to take photos! :)

These slow-moving huge rivers make for some very nice reflections.

With HDR there is a problem of "ghosting" which is when the various frames show different things. I usually leave the water alone when it gets ghosted because it has sort of an impressionistic feel to it, I think. In a sense, it gives the "impression" of water, which is somewhere between a photo and our memory.
