Lachung is a mountain village close to the Tibetan border, in the northeastern Indian state of Sikkim. It's divided by the Lachung River. The village is home to the 19th-century Buddhist Lachung Monastery, surrounded by apple orchards. Nearby, the Yumthang Valley's Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary protects many species of rhododendron. The valley is also known for its waterfalls, pine forests and hot springs.

Sarnath. Part of the four key sites of the Buddhist Circuit; revered by Buddhists from world over for it is here Buddha met his five disciples and preached his first sermon of the Middle Path, post enlightenment, now sanctified Maha Dharma Chakra Parivartan.

The expanse of the Dhamek Stupid and Monastery ruins, it's minimal architecture is enchanting.

What is however disturbing to see is that huge pillars of rock with intricate detailed carvings (swipe for pictures) lie piled up over one another randomly. The ASI perhaps couldn't find out which goes where and found no other imaginative way to deal with them.

Yet, it is a must visit place for both travellers and those following in Buddha's footsteps. You cannot help but think what this site would have been during its prime. ❤️
