This was taken in Lairg in Scotland. There’s a restaurant/cafe called The Pier and behind it is a beautiful loch which I’ve seen on a couple of occasions before but the light was always a little dull. Although I didn’t go there specifically to take photographs, I was glad I had my camera with me because the light was rather nicer this time. I can strongly recommend the Orkney Fudge cheesecake by the way. (PC030013)

Lake Saiful Muluk is a mountainous lake located at the northern end of the Kaghan Valley, near the town of Naran. It is in the north east of Mansehra District in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province, Pakistan and feeds water to Kunhar river. At an elevation of 3,224 m (10,578 feet) above sea level, it is well above the tree line, and is one of the highest lakes in Pakistan.Malika Parbat, the highest peak in the valley is near the lake.Saiful Muluk was formed by glacial moraines that blocked the water of the stream passing through the valley.

Recently "discovered" by Scout as an Explore pic...............I thought I'd re-post it just because I like it.

Addendum: It has been made clear to me (more or less) that this image has recently made the Explore 500 for the day it was posted (in May 2008), a function of the Interestingness algorithm operating for every day in the past 4-5 years of Explore. I used to think that the 500 became fixed after the calendar moved on, but now I am given to understand that images are constantly in flux on every day of the past. It seems strange, but at least it explains the sudden appearance of an image on the Scout Explore banner long after it was posted.

Playa de Itapuã es una playa de aguas calmas y cálidas en el noreste de Salvador de Bahía. Esta playa está coronada por arrecifes que mantienen las olas bajas y el agua tranquila.

A su alrededor se encuentran varios bares y restaurantes, ideales para pasar la tarde, aunque luego de la puesta del sol se considera una zona insegura.

La Playa de Itapuã se encuentra a 20 kilómetros de Pelourinho (Centro Histórico de Salvador de Bahía), junto a la playa Stella Maris.

Playa de Itapuã significa piedra redonda en la lengua tupí.

El barrio tiene un paseo marítimo con cocoteros a lo largo de toda la orilla. En ese paseo peatonal, también nos encontramos con la famosa estatua de la Sirena de Itapuã. Es precisamente allí, donde los jueves, antes del inicio de los Carnavales de cada año, se realiza la "Lavagem de Itapuã"; bahianas vestidas típicamente llevan potes de cerámica con flores y aguas aromáticas para lavar la escalera de la "Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Concepción de Itapuã".

The antipodes of where I was born and who I am are in the north of New Zealand near Auckand. But they are not on land, they are in the ocean. I am glad to know that the opposite of me is in the ocean, because the sea has always given me happiness and tranquility. The Four Tet insect, which was near Piha beach, was absolutely right.. Both my antipode and the insect are... Hiding Near Piha Beach... Away...
