Out of all the subsidiaries operated by Air Canada, one that certainly raised my eyebrows during a visit to Toronto-Pearson is their charter subsidiary, Air Canada Jetz.
Air Canada operates 4 subsidiaries; Air Canada Cargo which as the name suggests is their cargo subsidiary operated by a fleet of Boeing 767-300Fs, Air Canada Express which is their regional subsidiary utilising smaller aircraft in the form of De Havilland DHC-8-400s, Embraer E175s and Mitsubishi CRJ900s, Air Canada Rouge being their leisure subsidiary, and last but by no means least Air Canada Jetz.
The carrier is a charter airline that was created in late-2001 as to provide VIP and private charter flights for Air Canada's corporate clients or on behalf of major professional sport teams.
Air Canada Jetz uses a dedicated fleet of Airbus A320s, specifically 4 which are configured with just 70 Business Class arranged in a 4-abreast or 2-2 layout with some tables thrown in. Whilst these are the roomiest of Airbus A320s that Air Canada operates, they are also amongst the oldest still in the fleet with all examples over 30 years old and having previously worked standard Air Canada flights in the past.
Previously to distinguish itself from the main Air Canada fleet, on the old Frosted Leaf livery, Jetz was added beneath the main Air Canada typeface on the fuselage, otherwise it would have been hard to tell which aircraft was an Air Canada Jetz aircraft.
In late-2023, Air Canada Jetz introduced their own livery, essentially a reverse of the current Air Canada colours... The main fuselage being black with the underbody in white. Only 2 aircraft carry this livery for now, with the other 2 Airbus A320s in Air Canada Jetz's fleet carry the current Air Canada livery with any Jetz markings.
Currently, Air Canada Jetz operates 4 Airbus A320 family aircraft, all of which are Airbus A320s.
Foxtrot Mike Sierra X-Ray is one of 4 Airbus A320s operated by Air Canada Jetz, delivered new to Air Canada on 1st February 1993 later to be leased from ORIX Aviation from August 1999 until September 2015 being owned outright, transferring over to Air Canada Jetz on 13th December 2022 and she is powered by 2 CFM International CFM56-5A1 engines.
