The oldest document pertaining to the use of masks in Venice dates back to 2nd May 1268. In the document it is written that it was forbidden for masqueraders to practice the game of the "eggs". From the early 14th century onwards, new laws started to be promulgated, with the aim of stopping the relentless moral decline of the Venetian people of the day. This restrictive carnival legislation started with a decree on 22nd February 1339 prohibiting masqueraders from going around the city at night. A decree that helps us understand just how libertine the Venetians of the day were, is that of the 24th January 1458 which forbade men from entering convents dressed as women to commit "multas inhonestates"! In a similar vein, the decree of 3rd February 1603 is interesting in that it attempted to restore morality in the convents.
Masqueraders were banned from entering the nuns’ parlous – it had been the convention to sit in the parlous and talk to the nuns. Frequently, decrees were promulgated prohibiting masqueraders from carrying arms or any instrument which could cause harm, or other decrees which forbade masqueraders from entering churches. This obligation was extended to the townsfolk who were not allowed to enter churches wearing "indecent attire". 1608 was an important year, the 13th August to be precise, when a decree from the council of 10 was issued declaring that the wearing of the mask throughout the year posed a serious threat to the Republic. To avoid the terrible consequences of this immoral behavior, every citizen, nobleman and foreigner alike, was obliged to only wear a mask during the days of carnival and at official banquets.
The penalties inflicted for breaking this law were heavy – for a man this meant two years in jail, 18 months’ service to the Republic galley-rowing (with ankles fettered) and not only that, a 500 lire fine to the Council of 10. As for women, they were whipped from St Mark’s all the way to Rialto, then held to public ridicule between the two columns in St Mark’s. They were banned from entering the territory of the Venetian Republic for 4 years and had to pay the 500 lire fine to the Council of 10. 50 years after the decree of 1608, the Council of 10 published a proclamation on the 15th January reaffirming the ban on wearing masks and bearing arms.
It was further prohibited to enter holy places wearing a mask and it was expressly forbidden to wear religious clothes with a mask. In the same decree the use of drums was banned before midday, and even dancing of any description was prohibited outside of the carnival period. Seeing that many Venetian nobles used to go gambling wearing a mask to avoid their creditors, in 1703, masks were banned all year round from casinos.
Two different decrees (1699 and 1718) saw the prohibition of wearing a mask during Lent and other religious festivals which took place during carnival. In 1776, an act introduced to protect the by now forgotten "family honor", forbade all women from going to the theatre without a mask and cloak. After the fall of the Republic, the Austrian government forbade the use of masks for both private parties and elite parties (e.g., la Cavalchina della Fenice) . The Italo-American government was more open but now it was the Venetians who were being diffident. Venice was no longer the city of carnival, but just a little imperial province without personal liberty. During the second Austrian government it was once again permitted to wear masks.
Auto, radio en muziek, made in Germany. Donna Summer vult de auto. I feel Love.
Wereldpremiere.
I feel Love?
Natuurlijk weer top of the bill.
Johnny Cash is in orde. Disco van Donna Summer prima? Klassieke kamermuziek, James Last, Heino, alles mag.
Dik 50 jaar oud. Ja lekker man! Daar kan je mee aankomen. Muziek verbindt.
We lopen weg. Onder de brug door. De hoerenbuurt. Alle ramen leeg. Enkele in verbouwing.

Topmodel Claudia Schiffer is the star in a series of new Opel campaign and she was in Paris for the launching of the new Opel Corsa (during the Press days of the Mondial de l'Automobile).
She is considered as one of the most beautiful women in the world, a superstar, and the German face of Opel in Europe: Top model Claudia Schiffer is the focal point of the new Opel campaign, ‘It’s a German,’ now running as a series of TV commercials across Europe.
Claudia is presenting the ‘Made in Germany’ quality of Opel through the medium of elegantly shot, emotionally charged stories. At the end of each commercial, Claudia Schiffer delivers the entrancing punchline: „It’s a German”.
The managers of Opel say: “Today, Opel stands for the perfect German art of engineering, an emotional design, and an unbeatable price-value relationship. With Claudia Schiffer we were able to win a German world star who fully identifies with the brand.”

Welcome to the 5th episode!!! There will not be a video this week sorry!!! Buuut there will be judging right here for the first time!!
This weeks theme was Harsh Break up. Lets see how you all did!!! :)
Mimiangel:
Photo: www.flickr.com/photos/59499042@N02/6417070457/in/photostream
Judging: I like this shot! The facial expression is very strong and you can feel how she feels! But the pose seems a little unatural and painful, not as appealing. The tears are a great idea but they just look very very fake here... the sceneary is really great though! Overall, not too bad! :)
Dollsrmylife:
Photo: www.flickr.com/photos/47127787@N07/6421574573/
Judging: This is a pretty nice shot! I love her pants, and outfit! The male models pose is really great here. Her pose is pretty nice to for the theme and it makes sence! I wish she had a sadder look on her face though! Besides the expression, great work!
Breeana:
photo: www.flickr.com/photos/55071833@N02/6453374007/
Judging: This shot is fabulous!!! Each week you seem to improve! The pose is very very good!! You have the skill to still be work the theme, buut model at the same time which is super important!! Deffinitly modeling for H to T!!! If you were to use sunlight this photo could be better. But it is still stunning!!! Great great pic!
BritneyDavis:
Photo: www.flickr.com/photos/britneydavis92/6431653375/
Judging: Well, this picture is not as good as yours before. I was pretty shocked to see it. The angle is different, which adds a pretty neat affect, but the lighting is very dark and shady... The main thing about this is the tears. they look super fake... I was really dissapointed. The positives would be quality and poseing. Its not horrible though!
Well, this week determines the final 3!!!! I will be taking all of your photos into consideration for this elimination. 2 girls who will remain in this competition with the top photos are......
1:Breeana (Best photo this week!!)
2:Dollsrmylife
Bottom 2.....
You are both here for different reasons. but only one can stay... The girl who i believe has the most potential out of you 2, and will be STAYING in this competition is.....
BritneyDavis
BritneyDavis, you will remain in this contest because of your previous photos. You were doing sooo good up until this shoot. I do not know what happend but i do believe you may have more potential. Congratulations!

*********************************************************************************************************
Well you are the final 3!!!!! The next episode will be the finale video! Here are your final themeS...
Theme 1: Runway angels
(you must have wings for this! You are modeling beautiful clothes while wearing wings! Wings can be made for cutting out paper, using fabric, draping pipe cleaners with fabric, or whatever you think of!)
Theme 2: Blown away
(Use wind in this shoot! You can have hair blowing, clothes or bags blowing away. Best if you do a further away shot or close up!! Be fierce!)
Theme 3: Mini motion editorial

Venice was no longer the city of carnival, but just a little imperial province without personal liberty. During the second Austrian government it was once again permitted to wear masks.
