A grapevine has taken over a post at the entry to our back door. As I was fighting my way through their wild profusion this evening, I noted the backlighting of the leaves in the rays of the setting sun and was able to capture a series of images as the sunlight changed second by second.
There are so many things that bring me joy and that I like doing.
Among them - and definitely on high positions within the toplist - is spending time with people I like, smiling, discovering places and enjoying sunny weather.

Chureito pagoda - this place is very good place to see mt.fuji clearly. You can come to this place by take train from kawakuchiko station to Shimoyoshida station and walk around 5 mins and walk up to pagoda 400 step of stairs.

'Cranberry cove barrens' On Black
The coastal barrens of Nova Scotia are incredible vistas of bare granite with huge boulders strewn about left by the retreating glaciers. Where a thin skim of topsoil has built up there are many varieties of dwarf bushes and tortured scrubby trees. In the fall, the leaves turn crimson creating fiery carpets amid the scoured rocks and small ponds. I went out last week but the colours weren't "ripe" but this weekend they were brilliant and the sky was full of interesting clouds (although that made waiting for the right light an exercise in impatience).

Captured during a very nice day at the beach escaping sweltering heat in the city. Two lads put on a show of skimboarding and I was lucky to capture this perfect moment at the end of a ride when wave, spray and surfer all hung suspended in defiance of gravity.

I'm very pleased with the reception this photo has received from all my kind viewers. This was one of the first real shooting challenges I have had with my new kit, a Canon 30D and an EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM lense. This combination worked very well for stopping action. If you look closely, you can see this lad is wearing Hanes boxers!
*An "Ollie" is a skateboard trick where the rider pops the front of the board in the air, first ascribed to Alan "Ollie" Gelfand back in 1977. You just had to know that, didn't you?

Other notable peaks in this range include the Zugspitze, (2,962 m/9,717 ft), located on the German-Austrian frontier and listed as the highest peak in Germany.
On the Brocken (1141,2 m) in the Harz were 162 and measured for the southern German low mountain peaks still over 150 kilometers per hour.

Orkan-Tief NIKLAS zeigt uns seine kalte Schulter mit dicken Schauern, die teils als Schnee oder Graupel fallen können.
Dabei können die Straßen in höheren Lagen generell, nach Südosten hin sogar bis ins Flachland herab, zeitweise glatt werden.
Der Wind bläst weiterhin stark bis stürmisch und die Sonne lässt sich zwischendurch meist nur kurze Zeit blicken.

Landing before 7am on a wintry morning in the Halifax International Airport the sun had just risen above the ground fog when I captured this from inside the terminal.

This brass water fountain at the Canadian Museum of Civilization in Hull, Quebec caught my eye as an example of remarkably stylish industrial design. My flash was on auto and when it fired all these hidden shimmering ripples appeared that hadn't been apparent with the ambient light.
This museum is a tour-de-force for Canadian architect Douglas Cardinal and even details like this water fountain have been done with exquisite care.
There is a companion photo of a different fountain in the same museum.
Image has been cropped, the tone curve manipulated to darken shadows and saturation increased (slightly) .
Took in Word on the Street *Toronto outdoor book festival) on Saturday. Had to walk by this Trudeau protester dancing by the War Memorial to get there. He stopped yelling as soon I complimented his body. Took a pose. I took this picture. Nice guy, till he started yelling again.

This photo means a great deal to me. When I was 3 and 4 years old I was living with my grandparents. My grandfather was a (semi) retired GP-surgeon who was working as an itinerant physician with Indian and Northern Affairs providing medical services in remote northern communities. When he was transferred to Pangnirtung, I went with them. We lived in this house and he practiced in this hospital. I was a normal 4 year old I guess, always getting into trouble. At one point I fell through the melting spring ice and was fished out of the water with a boathook by Etoongat. He was the village leader and was assigned to be the liaison with the doctor.
I had the opportunity to return to Pangnirtung in May 2005 on a business trip and was incredibly fortunate to be able to meet Etoongat's daughter, grandson, and great grandchildren. It took a while (having been 45 years), but Etoongat's daughter Rosie finally remembered me, exclaiming, "Oh, you were THAT boy," and proceeded to tell everyone what a naughty fellow I had been. It was a very moving experience.
This photo epitomizes my memories of Pangnirtung which sits in a majestic fjord with cliffs that rise to near vertical as you proceed further up into Pangnirtung Pass. This capture hardly does the scenery justice with the low clouds hiding peaks whose towering heights are only hinted at.

Taken from a Piazza in back of the 'Altare della Patria' mausoleum and Santa Maria de Ara Coeli in Rome. This area is normally closed to the public but was open for a special reception for a HTAi conference. The reception featured many different Italian dishes, a wonderful variety of thinly sliced hams, incredible cheeses and breads, all very exotic to a Canadian palate. And then, of course, the gelato. Raspberry, chocolate - all just "to die for". Wonderful wines, reds, whites, sparkling completed the treat of the evening.
While we were there, the sun went lower and lower in the sky behind us, giving beautiful light that gently illuminated all the fantastic architecture of Rome, both ancient and modern, spread before us. No panorama can truly do it justice.

Small dory under repair at Maritime Museum of the Atlantic. The small shed where they repair old wooden boats has a pair of skylights that threw streams of light into the otherwise gloomy interior and across the dory.
This seemed to be a good candidate for the Dragan technique of "light painting" used to bring out detail in a photograph. This is NOT an HDR. I used a PhotoShop Action (basically a set of image manipulations that are recorded in a file to automate the alteration of an image) that duplicates a process developed by a chap named Andrzej Dragan. The technique is now referred to as Draganizing and for those with PhotoShop who are interested in trying this, the action file can be obtained at Action Central - I used the one by Sharon Lee (Zip file).
This is by no means a push button process. I have to "paint" areas that I want to lighten or darken with a brush that reveals or conceals the light detail - hence the term "light painting". One of the characteristics of this technique is the ability to create deep etched detail. My original of the dory can be seen here.
