It's pretty cool seeing Tink fly so close to you at this location.

Tomorrowland 35
I have taken many ultra-wide shots of Tomorrowland so I decided to give the Nikon 35 1.4 a go through the land. Once again, it gives me a tighter view that really brings some of the details such as the signs into larger focus. The signs too are the most difficult part of shooting Tomorrowland. It is very easy to blow the signs out when properly exposing for everything else. This can be beat by bracketing but you have to be careful on your blend or it will look bad. The Laugh Floor sign especially I have lost track of how many blown versions I have seen of this out there.

Trying a two second exposure while on the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover in Disney World's Tomorrowland.
I've been trying to do a lot more night shots with my 85mm, not because I am sick of UWA or anything but just for something different. I love the way Tomorrowland and Astro Orbiter compress in the background and don't look teeny tiny and far away.
Thanks for looking!

Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom all aglow at night makes for a great photo opportunity.

Tomorrowland continues to be one of my favorite locations in Walt Disney World to photograph. There's just so much going on and all the different colors lend to photos that pop. I love the cool steel look that goes along with that as well. Having said that I certainly feel there are elements of Tomorrowland that could be refreshed. For instance I would really love to see the Speedway eliminated and use that huge land plot for some kind of new exciting E-Ticket ride. The Laugh Floor is another attraction that while I'm sure many people enjoy is one I skip every single trip. Obviously a replacement here would be welcome. Also viewing some of the other Tomorrowland entrances around the world I am really drawn to the look of Japan's Tomorrowland. It is futuristic but in a timeless way that I feel the Walt Disney World version does not have. I'd love to see a stylistic refresh of that sort brought to Walt Disney World here in the states.
Shot Details
This was once again a 5 shot bracket taken with my Nikon D810 and Nikon 14-24 2.8. I had a good base exposure and used multiple under exposures to blend in the various highlights in the scene. Tomorrowland can be tricky with all the brightly lit signs and neon to get just right. It is very easy to blow something out and not be able to recover it convincingly. One thing that can help is metering off one of the brightest lit signs and starting your exposure bracketing from that point. Doing this will guarantee you'll have your brightest points properly exposed for. This is good because recovering shadows is always much much easier than recovering highlights, especially so on Nikon. Once the detail is blown there is no getting it back.

Tomorrowland from the hub, with the low clouds in the sky glowing orange from the lights on main street.
I have been trying some new editing techniques this weekend with the help of a good friend of mine, Mike Billick. We decided to edit this shot together and see what the results were. My current workflow was mainly done in Lightroom, but seeing the results of editing in Photoshop, I may have to change it up. This is a shot of Tomorrowland from The Magic Kingdom taken pretty late in the evening. I am very happy with this edit and I hope you all like it as well. Please head on over to his page and check out his work and give it a "Fav". You can see more of his work at Michael Billick Photography

Tomorrowland
While I enjoy the neon aesthetic of Walt Disney World's current Tomorrowland, one of my recent kicks is looking at photos of the old Tomorrowland aesthetic. Perhaps because my vision of the future aligns with that of a 70s-era Kubrick film, I still think the sterile and clean lines of old Tomorrowland looks amazing.
At least one Magic Kingdom-style park still has that Tomorrowland aesthetic!

I don't bring a tripod into the parks with me, so I don't often take night shots in Tomorrowland. I need to shoot more in there. I love the neon lighting.
Tomorrowland at Disneyland is home to quite a few new(ish) or updated attractions (Nemo Subs, Astro Blasters, Star Tours, Monorail Trains, etc), but the empty people mover tracks still disappoints me.

Playing with the tilt-shift for this particular shot to make the Tomorrowland entrance sign stand a little taller and prouder. I know I blew the red neon here, but those two huge yellow lights didn’t help. Definitely one of my favorite areas of the MK to photograph at night.
Today, Tomorrowland has become sci-fi Fantasyland. The emphasis is on the familiar instead of the challenge of what could be. Even the most forward-looking attraction – the Carousel of Progress – is presented like it is a museum.
Tomorrowland is clearly organized, a very entertaining space to sit and take a break, and brings back a nostalgic moment for those old enough to remember when… - Sam Genaway (Touringplans.com)

colorized version of a similar shot i took last september out by the walkway from tomorrowland to storybook circus. the walkway is light on the guest traffic, which minimizes accidental bumps when you are shooting for very long exposures like this one (about 2 minutes long). it's also home to probably the best most fulfilling view of space mountain against the backdrop of the sky. I cleaned up the roof in post to give it a much newer vibe..something the disney people should do more often in person, it is after all the ICON of tomorrowland. past present and in the future as well. Hope the upcoming movie does 'Frozen' money..so the area can finally get out of this BS tomorrowland 2045 theme its currently in and restore it to that white utopian futuristic look the imagineers envisioned back in the 70s
The Astro Orbiter is a rocket-spinner attraction featured at all five Magic Kingdom-style parks at Walt Disney Resorts around the world. Although each ride may have a different name, all share the same premise of rockets spinning around a central monument. As each form of the attraction appeared, new designs and locations have been implemented to fit with changing schemes of several Tomorrowlands.
What happens when you put 12 stops of neutral density (ND) filters on your lens? You get a 30 second shutter in broad daylight. #magickingdom #tomorrowland #pixelmania @tmip @tmip_pixelmania
Tomorrowland is full of neon and all sorts of bright lights. It really a pain in the neck to photograph. This was taken in March of last year before I really started to bracket my shots. I've been working on reprocessing a lot of my older stuff along with the new stuff. I hope you enjoy it. Thanks for looking.

Tomorrowland
Tokyo Disneyland
This week: the Tokyo of Tomorrow(land)
The Tomorrowland Terrace is the "burger joint" common to Tomorrowland's the world over. Despite sharing a name with Anaheim's Tomorrowland Terrace, this one is most closely analogous to Cosmic Ray's Starlight Cafe in Walt Disney World (which USED to be called Tomorrowland Terrace) in location and style. However, the Japanese palate is expectedly different than that of America, so in addition to cheeseburgers and beef dips here you can get Teriyaki Burgers, Shrimp Cutlet sandwiches, and other variations that we Americans would consider "exotic". In general I found Japanese eateries are a little less prone to have the same "burger and fries" type menu that is common in America, always having unique variations and usually some sort of seafood on the menu. There's a stage inside but no Sonny Eclipse: I believe it is/was used for live bands and performances.
This view is looking toward the restaurant from the hub as you enter Tomorrowland's northern-hub entrance (there are 5 entrances to Tomorrowland in Tokyo, one from Fantasyland, one from World Bazaar, and three from the hub). This view felt especially *very* 80s-future to me, which consequently felt a lot like Epcot's FutureWorld.

Tomorrowland Tuesday!
(See, I can make up theme days too. What now? Huh? Huh?)
So I’m walking along and stumble onto this completely unique spot. It’s seems like a natural photo op to me and I just can’t believe my luck that I’m the first guy to ever photograph this!
I mean, how did all you guys and gals miss this one? I’m skimming through everyone’s Photostream as I write this and I can’t believe that I’m the first person to ever post a pic from this…Ohhhhhhhhh.
Well, here’s my version anyway.

I just love Tomorrowland at WDW and I have high hopes for the new movie coming out at the end of this month. Hopefully I wont be let down! It will be interesting to see, if the movie is a hit, if they will incorporate it into the parks.

This one is not quite as colorful as the last one I posted several weeks ago, but I think I did a better job of controlling the highlights here. I never get tired of shooting Tomorrowland at night.

I know this has been done thousands of times before but I needed to try it myself. This was the first night of our visit and I was planning on this location once the traffic died down. Thankfully I didn't need to wait to long for this part to empty out. I took 3 exposures and used the plug-in Merge to 32 Bit HDR in Lightroom then over to Photoshop Elements for some additional processing. We spent the majority of our time in TomorrowLand while in the Magic Kingdom. My little guy loved the people mover I think we on it 10 times over the week.
