It was really wind still yesterday, I used a 30 sec exposure here and as you can see the clouds barely moved during that time!

Back Garden - one from a couple of days ago, unfortunately I was unable to get at right angles to him.

Tip:

Focussed light can be incredibly powerful. You can of course use a snoot but in most cases this will still give a bit too much light. Don't be afraid to use cardboard to block off even more of the light and really only "paint" the light where you want it.

Having finally given up on days of chasing them up and down the rides, this chap settles beside me and patiently waits for me to rummage the camera out of the rucksack.

Think there might be a moral there somewhere.

Delighted to see my first Orange-tip male Butterfly in my gdn this morning in spite of a cool wind. the underside shot was taken with a lot of zoom as it was still very mobile. Still not seeing as many butterflies as usual by this time of year & not seen any Small Tortoiseshell's, most unusual but those are reported as declining species

Yesterday was by far the warmest day so far this year so I once again walked to my local reserve. Amazingly after reaching the junction about 5 minutes from my house I only passed 2 other people (a pair walking 3 dogs) and was passed by 2 cyclists en route during the entire time.

These were the main hope of my outing and I saw 3.

This was in the reserve and the only one that settled and eventually opened its wings - though not quite fully.

Sedum has just started to bloom in the garden, the pollinators will be glad of some late summer food.

Thanks for the views, faves and comments

I found my first Orange Tips of the year yesterday including this very fresh male. I had to be patient after spotting him settle when the clouds came over, it took 30 mins before the sun reappeared and he opened his wings and flew off a few seconds later.
