I haven't posted a photo of Zoe, my nephew's little girl, since she was newborn, some 18 months ago. I went to my sister Sherrie's on Saturday and since her three older sisters were gone to see Justin Bieber, we "borrowed" Zoe for an afternoon photo shoot and had a blast. Here is my favorite photo of the day, with Zoe trying to look cute, giving you her "tickle me" pose, a Valentine for everyone from Zoe and Uncle Phooey. Happy Valentine's day!

These tree’s remind me of my childhood. We had one in the backyard and it always made me think of summer and the beach. It is so beautiful against the bright blue sky, and the flowers are so soft. Like thousands of little fiber optic lights, swaying gently in the summer breeze!
This one is on the side of the beach house....neglected, like most of the landscaping here. if this little shack were my very own, i would make it look so cute...cheerful and colorful with flowers in a tidy garden with a little picket fence. It has such potential.......... in my mind!
As i near the end of my time of bliss here, i think about what i will write in my thank you note to the owner. I ALWAYS leave him a note, thanking him for allowing this house to be a part of the summer memories for me and my girls....and now for my beans! I also ALWAYS remind him how much i love this little place and that if EVER there comes a time that he wants to sell it, i hope that he will give me first crack at it.....if there is ANY miracle that i could, i would snatch this up in a heartbeat. I do not want anything grand...i have had that......i just want a cute tiny place that is comfortable and quick to clean up, so that i can spend time by the sea. This is a definite case of “Less is More” for me! it does need a few things....like updated electric in ALL the rooms...not just 2 of them! Some cosmetic touches to bring it out of it’s dated 1950 look (The curtains are classic vintage 50’s!!! they have been here the entire 20 years i have rented it....and probably 50 years before that!!!) a cute front porch for sitting in the evening and listening to the surf, and a kitchen that fits more than 2 people without making me want to scream would be nice!! i don’t even care that there is no dishwasher!!
i am off to cook a swordfish steak. THIS should be quite interesting since i have never had swordfish, and i have no clue what i am doing. perhaps i will use Kathy’s BBQ (it’s gas....the one here is charcoal and i am NOT buying another bag!!) and settle in for the night....OR if the sunset looks promising i will drive up to the lighthouse and see what’s shakin’!

The Sensitive plant (Mimosa pudica L.) is a creeping annual or perennial herb often grown for its curiosity value: the compound leaves fold inward and droop when touched, re-opening within minutes. Mimosa pudica is native to Brazil, but is now a pantropical weed. Other names given to this curious plant are Humble plant, TickleMe Plant, Shame plant, Sleeping grass, Prayer Plant, Touch-me-not, Makahiya (Philippines, meaning "shy"), Mori Vivi (West Indies), mate-loi (false death) (Tonga). The Chinese name for this plant translates to "shyness grass". The species epithet, pudica, is Latin for "bashful" or "shrinking", because of its curious nature and easy procreation. --Wikipedia

English Name: Sensitive Plant/Bashful Plant/Humble Plant/Tickle-Me Plant
The leaflets fold together in the early evening and reopens at sunrise. It is called bashful or sensitive because the leaflets fold together on touching, warming and shaking. The phenomenon is called seismonastic movement due to a rapid change in turgor pressure and changes in membrane permeability in the pulvini cells in the leaf regions with rapid movement of calcium ions. At night, the leaves also fold and bend, termed nyctonastic movements (reaction to absence of light).

Trade name: TickleMe Plant (TM)
Native to Brazil, this short lived evergreen sub shrub is usually treated as an annual. It is grown for its curiosity value - the fern like leaves close up and droop when touched, usually re-opening within minutes. It has prickly stems and small, fluffy, ball shaped pink flowers in summer.
A perennial plant, it grows to a height of 0.5m with a spread of 0.3m. In some areas this plant is becoming a noxious weed. The stem is erect, slender and branching. The leaves are bipinnate, fern like and pale green - closing when disturbed. The flowers are pale lilac pink, occurring in globose heads and appearing in summer.
Indigenous to the northern hemisphere, it is adaptable to most soils in an open, sunny position, and is drought and frost tender. Due to its ability to fix nitrogen from the air it does well on poor soils.

Memphis is a city along the Mississippi River in southwestern Shelby County, Tennessee, United States. Modern Memphis was founded in 1819 by three prominent Americans: John Overton, James Winchester, and future president Andrew Jackson.

Elvis Aaron Presley (January 8, 1935 – August 16, 1977), also known simply as Elvis, was an American singer and actor. Regarded as one of the most significant cultural icons of the 20th century, he is often referred to as the "King of Rock and Roll" or simply "the King". The cheerleaders went to the state championship and had high hopes. They didn't do as well as they wanted, one of their stunts ended with a fall, a black eye and a hurt elbow. They were bummed. One of the girls brought her new TickleMe Elmo out though, and Elmo cheered up the cheerleaders, everyone laughing and cracking up along with a funny, laughing toy. It was great.

Last weekend wore me out. In addition to my cousin's commencement, I covered two high school graduation ceremonies for the local paper. After a lot of walking and crouching for extended periods of time in muggy conditions, my legs felt like stiff painful jello. I stuck close to home for today's photo. I wanted something reasonably lit, so I began with a few halfhearted attempts at capturing a compelling shot of our pizza dinner underneath the bright kitchen lights. No dice.
Our kitchen opens into the living and dining area, and I was able to use that same bright light for a much more dramatic snap just a few steps away from the pizza -- no pun intended, of course! These feet belong to none other than my hubby, who sat in his chair munching his dinner. Unbeknownst to him, I lay on my stomach and framed his appendages, using the floor to steady my camera. He was quite perplexed when I showed him this photo! (And I thought he was playfully and purposely wiggling his toes at me as I photographed them! Turns out that was a subconscious gesture.)
I'm rather fond of these triangle and squiggle shapes protruding from the darkness!
One question: Since these feet are alive and motionless, could this be classified as a still life?!

The Sensitive plant (Mimosa pudica L.) is a creeping annual or perennial herb often grown for its curiosity value: the compound leaves fold inward and droop when touched, re-opening within minutes.
The stem is erect in young plants, but becomes creeping or trailing with age. The stem is slender, branching, and sparsely to densely prickly, growing to a length of 1.5 m (5 ft). The leaves are bipinnately compound, with one or two pinnae pairs, and 10-26 leaflets per pinna. The petioles are also prickly. Pedunculate (stalked) pale pink or purple flower heads arise from the leaf axils. The globose to ovoid heads are 8-10 mm in diameter (excluding the stamens). On close examination, it is seen that the floret petals are red in their upper part and the filaments are pink to lavender. The fruit consists of clusters of 2-8 pods from 1-2 cm long each, these prickly on the margins. The pods break into 2-5 segments and contain pale brown seeds some 2.5 mm long.
