F-18A super hornet dedication pass. If you zoom, you can see the double thumbs-up by the back seater. I also liked the evening light against the gray background in this picture.

. . . This had to be the best day in our week at Yellowstone! The snow was pure and fresh, the sun was out despite the -5 F temps, the geysers and wildlife were plentiful, and the lake was serene with no wind.
The road between Old Faithful and the Grand Canyon (via Yellowstone Lake) is often closed in the winter due to drifts and high winds coming off the lake, but not today!
Have a great week Facebook, Flickr, and 500px friends!

The angle of the wings and my position makes it look like the Wood Stork is giving a thumbs up at first glance.

Lady's Thumb, called this not for the flower, but for the "thumbprint" on the leaves I think.
Some technical details
- TTArtisan 50mm f/1.2
- Nikon 6T close-up diopter
- Aperture about f/2.3-f/2.5
- Star bokeh from a 10-blade diaphragm with convex blades. I like to use this lens for flowers because of the way it makes specular highlights recapitulate floral themes theme.
I am always amazed at the variety of geology found at each of Yellowstone's geyser basins. The West Thumb Basin is unique and fun because things are fairly close together. I need to keep track of the names of these hot pools though. Maybe on my next visit! ;-)

Anything that eats hundreds of mosquitoes daily gets a thumbs up from me. Taken at Carlisle Lake in Onalaska, Washington using an iPhone 14 Pro. Took around 20 minutes to get it to perch on my thumb.
