. . . This had to be the best day in our week at Yellowstone! The snow was pure and fresh, the sun was out despite the -5 F temps, the geysers and wildlife were plentiful, and the lake was serene with no wind.
The road between Old Faithful and the Grand Canyon (via Yellowstone Lake) is often closed in the winter due to drifts and high winds coming off the lake, but not today!
Have a great week Facebook, Flickr, and 500px friends!
This was a little celebratory shot I took a few years ago when I had just gotten over a bad eye injury, so what better way to enjoy that first drive than by hopping in a little blue Maserati GT Spyder V8. Definitely a two thumbs up day!

A forced perspective shot of my Bburago 1/18th scale model Maserati, set against my driveway at home. I even threw in a few fake autumn leaves for the season!
The angle of the wings and my position makes it look like the Wood Stork is giving a thumbs up at first glance.
An area on the north side of Yellowstone's Mammoth Hot Springs that has sprung to life in the past few years, here highlighted by the late afternoon sunshine and distant storm clouds.

I don't know which I prefer less: trying to spell its name, or trying to catch it in my lens when it's feeding. It's the smallest and nippiest of our regular hummer visitors. But today I finally learned that it likes to sleep late, and will remain oblivious to humans if found with a hangover from yesterday's nectar. So all is forgiven, N. h. s.
Mike!! thank you thank you thank you!! this was such an awesome surprise today. I was so tickled I had to put it up immediately. front and center of my desk - will grab a frame very soon!

One of the fun things about taking photos at a parade is that the participants sometimes play up to the camera.
