I had been taking photos of birds for ID purposes for quite some time with my trust Canon S2IS P&S, until it finally croaked. Took the plunge and upgraded to a DSLR, the Canon Rebel. Got better pictures and could ID more birds...but it was this photo that made me realize I could have fun capturing a bird's personality and specialness. It's a photo I treasure, and it still hangs proudly on the wall in the den.

Horicon, Wisconsin, 1996?

WSOR 3501 & 701 pull past the Horicon Depot. In the background is what looks like a "new" autorack, freshly painted from the WSOR Paint Shop.

This photo brought to you by my dad's love of trains, as I was not even born yet when this was taken.

Also, Happy Thanksgiving, Flickr!

My first year playing in the gay league in Cincinnati. Hard to believe I've been doing this for nine years this summer.

An impromptu kid group shot I took at a Christening last year. Group shots are notoriously difficult, more so when kids are involved! However I quite like the way this shot turned out.

Jasmine at the zoo when she was younger. I miss the days when my girls were smaller... so bittersweet watching them grow up.

This shot was taken last year at the beginning of a christening, while friends and family gathered outside. I took several candid shots during this initial greeting, but it's nice when you get unexpected eye contact.

There's a moment between the two of us, everyone else oblivious to my presence except her. Even though I am not in the shot, my presence is felt within the image.

So, it seems Throwback Thursday totally slipped my mind this month and now I'm scrambling at the very last minute to get one done!

This was taken back when my neighbour and I were walking up to the coffee shop on each nice day we were both available, this was just me fooling around with the camera while she was inside the store getting a refill. Our walks together have been further and further apart since her little one arrived and she's gone back to work, so I thought that in every sense, this really suited the Throwback Thursday theme!

Hope all is well!

I have been freaking out about the Hunger Games recently, especially with Catching Fire coming out soon! I'm definitely going to be that crazy fangirl in the crowd. I also already miss the green woods, the cold is killing me. I plan to do some HG photos I've had in mind in honor of the movie, this oldie inspired me!

Shout out to Nathan, my amazing cousin who does a lot of crazy things for me

From recently scanned negatives of photos never printed before. My version of the time machine.

Time machine indeed. Nizhny Novgorod or Gorky as it was called in the Soviet years was the only city on the Volga river I visited. Even back then, in 1978, it struck a visitor by its quiet 19-century beauty.

This and other photos Nizhny Novgorod are at www.bfcollection.net/cities/russia/nizhnynovg/nizhnynovg....

Happy Throwback Thursday!

Old Florida License Plates

Beginning in 1918 and continuing through the mid 1970's, the State of Florida issued automobile license plates on an annual basis.

The first number designated the County within the State where the vehicle was registered. For example:

1 = Dade County, 2 = Duval County, 3 = Hillsborough County, and so on, based on the population size on the County.

This specimen starts with a "4" designating Pinellas as the County of registration. The letter, or letters, following the County Number, if any, identified the vehicle type. In this case the "W" was used for Passenger Vehicles weighing between 3,500 - 4,500 lbs.

The registered vehicle of this particular license plate is a 1959 Ford Thunderbird with a factory weight of 3,903 lbs.

Other vehicle specifications include a wheelbase of 113", an overall length of 205.4", a width 77", and a height 52.5"

Although these specifications may be those of a large vehicle today, by 1959 standards, it was considered that of a compact or small coupe.

Current Florida Law allows the registration of antique or vintage licence plates to vehicles of the same year as the plates. An authentication process through the State's Capital, Tallahassee, is required. Authentication and other applicable fees do, of course, apply.

I miss spring even in the rain.

For Throwback Thursday. Photo taken in 1998 of the cats that our family had at that time. Spirit is the cat on the left, Cloud is the cat on the right. We lost Cloud in 2006 and Spirit in 2011. Although we have since gotten other pets, we will never forget Cloud and Spirit! (Posted on Instagram on February 9, 2017)

Bit of a cross over this week for Throwback Thursday. As mentioned in February this is the thirtieth anniversary of Dublin Bus. During those three decades the company has had a number of liveries for its core fleet. A selection of those, and same that came before Dublin Bus when it was still CIE, can be seen here in this shot taken at the Dublin Port Rally, 28/09/2014.

From left to right, we have KD 353 and D 839 in two-tone green for Dublin Bus, D 464 in tan for CIE and D 44 in white/navy blue also for CIE. In the distance is an SG in the current blue/yellow livery for Dublin Bus.

For a bit more history on the Dublin Bus core liveries of the last thirty years, check out this blog post on the Graphic Mint website:
