Throwback Thursday: This is an old picture of me and my Great Grandfather, Paw-Paw. He was a pretty cool guy. He used to record things with his audio tape player, a lot of biographical information about his family and his life. He even recorded a storm on tape. I've always wanted to do that. We have a huge case full that we got from my Nana's sister a few month ago. He loved roadrunners and ran the town newspaper where he lived. He lived to be 92 years old. He loved taking pictures as well but most of those are on slides. This is one of the few he took that i have that is an actual picture.
Notice i am holding my Alvin doll. This is from the 1980s.
This #ThrowBackThursday takes us out in the field during the 1940s. This image shows a ranger preparing a plaster cast for a boot print, but when I first saw this photo, I thought he might be investigating something else.
Something elusive.
Something hairy.
Something with, well, big feet.
With all this talk about Bigfoot lately, and with the creepiest of holidays fast approaching, it’s easy to let the mind wander a bit. While it’s fun to let the imagination run wild, the caption on this photo sheds some light on what the ranger is really doing, and fortunately (or unfortunately for cryptid fans), it doesn’t involve Bigfoot.
The caption reads: “Circa 1940 - Ranger wearing high leather boots with canteen and plaster of paris, making a casting of a boot print in soft earth following a fire. The boot print measured 10-11 inches. The casting will record the depth of the print in an effort to reflect the friability of the soil. This is possibly law enforcement gathering evidence of arson.”
