#throwbackthursday 1998, senior year in high school on spirit day. Seniors were supposed to wear white, most wore togas. I came dressed as a sheep. They called me to the office, I figured to scold me. Instead the principals wanted a picture with me. #costume #funny #instagood #instalove #igdaily #igaddict #sheep #irony #1998 #karns #khs

This #ThrowbackThursday, we look at a small but significant structure.

In 1996, the Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad acquired a small home located in Ontario, Iowa, just west of Ames. From around 1940 until 1996, it had been used as a rental property. Why was it of any importance to the Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad? Well, the structure had been built around 1915 as the Fort Dodge, Des Moines & Southern Railway’s depot in the town of Napier (near Ames).

The depot was moved to downtown Boone and set into place just southeast of the location of the Fort Dodge, Des Moines & Southern’s Story Street offices and passenger station.

Recently, the depot has undergone significant restoration work, inside and out. Look for the little depot to begin playing a more prominent role in operations in the 2025 season.

Throwback Thursday: Im surprised that i have this picture because i dont remember it being taken. I think i was about 12 or 13 here. It was taken at my great aunts house, in her kitchen...which still looks like that...

Things of note: Cracked, not Mad Magazine, a Swatch watch (the second one i owned), a Joker shirt and a Batman painter's cap. Also notice my glasses size.

Looking at this, i cant believe i was ever that small...

May 9 ,1945 Naval Ammunition Depot, Crane, issued the Bursts and Duds newsletter. The middle column discusses the announcement of VE-Day the previous day. The mission of NAD Crane is continued today by Crane Army Ammunition Activity and we are there for the Warfighter today just as we were then.

Throwback Thursday: Here is a pic of my Nana and I when we were at Universal Studios back in the 1980's. Things of note: I didnt have glasses yet, so things were quite blurry and i vaguely remember going but most of these memories are erased. Note the shirt I am wearing. I am a Star Wars fan even back then. I had a Darth Vader head shirt as well but i still havent found a pic of me wearing it. As of right now, my Nana is still living, a spry 85 years old.

This pic courtesy of Nana's collection.

Date unknown, I'm guessing 1995. I know it was before a JSYO concert because of how we're dressed. For Throwback Thursday.

My family, before I was born. That's my father in the kitchen chair and my mother in the striped dress. My grandfather is all the way on the right (the same guy as in the previous photo). Everyone else is an aunt or uncle or cousin.

Nearly everyone in this photo was named Watson at some point, except my father, whose name was Dyer.

(Judging from the empty chair, I believe this photo was taken by my uncle Dick.)
