This morning, 06.30 a.m. Rome GMT, my iPhone woke me up, as usually. Few minutes later I read the terrible news that Steve Jobs passed away in the late evening Cupertino GMT.
It was a terrible day, today. For all the World.
This man, in the future, will be remembered as the modern Leonardo Da Vinci.
My thoughts goes to his family and to all the families who has lost someone care because a tragic sickness.

Shockley Semiconductor Laboratory, which was founded by the legendary transistor co-inventor and nobel laureate William Shockley, was located here that marked the twilight of the silicon era in the valley...
the projects didn't fly though, and the only things left are the plaque merged to the ground and a sign raised to the blue californian sky... here (see more pics below), and probably in all the gadgets everywhere in the world from the evolutions or revolutions later on... from "Traitorous Eight" departing for Fairchild and then many many great companies... a lot of stories for sure...
as of 2006 it was apparently occupied by a small store selling farm produce according to the wiki (some bitterness can be sensed there for some reasons), and the building was empty with the sign taken out as seen above... at the corner of the greater san antonio shopping plaza nowadays...
the "lab" was running between 1956 and 1968...
the plaque was dedicated in year 2000, see the contents below in the comment... and here is the official web site with a link to some old pictures at www.shockleytransistor.com/

Have you closely examined the "Text Edit" icon in Leopard?
Here's the transcript in it's entirety:
Here’s to the crazy ones.
The misfits.
The rebels.
The troublemakers.
The round pegs in the square holes.
The ones who see things differently.
They’re not fond of rules.
And they have no respect for the status quo.
You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them.
About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them.
Because they change things.
They push the human race forward.
And while some see them as the crazy ones,
We see genius.
Because the people who are crazy enough to think
they can change the world,
Are the ones who do.

This was a copy ad I did in 2005. I love the slogan, I love the ethos, I love the products. Thanks Steve.

THINK DIFFERENT AD CAMPAIGN
Where it came from....
“IBM has a campaign out that says “Think IBM,” and I feel Apple is very different from IBM, so I felt “Think Different” was interesting. I then thought it would be cool to attach those words to some of the world’s most different-thinking people.” [Craig Tanimoto, Art director to Rob Siltanen to Creative Director at TBWA/Chiat/Day].

While listening to a broadcast on #ds106radio this evening with @giuliaforsythe, @hdurning, and @lisaneale, @drgarcia, and @noiseprofessor in celebration of International Womans' Day, I worked to realize this poster using my iPhone and the Keep Calm app. The mic, the radio, and the audience are pieces of the puzzle. Finding your voice and sharing it is a big part of the puzzle, too.
This is the gramatically incorrect, but preferred, version of the poster. As with Apple's "Think Different" mantra, the Breathe Deep used here more closely follows the cadence and the rhythm of the original "Keep Calm and Carry On" poster. A version is presented here with the properly presented adverb, if you must have it.
#iPPP2Day08 Create some calm (or some other emotion) today using the Keep Calm app. (It's FREE). You might want to experiment with a photo background to complement the text.
2012/366 - Day 68
Many who follow me here know this woman as well, but just in case you don't, let me tell you about her.
Tina is an Artist. She teaches art, she lives and breathes art, she creates art. She inspires. She is a giver.
There is a project called "100 Possibilities" where the aim is to take one object (whatever you want it to be) and photograph it in 100 different ways. I've seen some amazing work come from this challenge. Tina, being the artist that she is, began with a work of art: a handmade ceramic bowl (made by a dear friend of hers). She traveled with that bowl all over the country. She put all sorts of things in the bowl, and placed the bowl on top of all sorts of other things. She was up to day 92 when it happened--the bowl broke.
And then the little seed of a miracle began to germinate. Lessons learned and then transformed.
Tina came up with the most beautiful idea...and she created yet more art. Pendants of the pieces of the bowl, now jewelry for the cost of making a donation to an organization to feed the hungry.
Is that not one of the most beautiful works of art you've ever seen?
