In the foreground, the Diptych "Got Drunk, Fell Down", the lamppost in the background, "Fountain", is peeing in the ocean. Both works are part of the series "The Way Things Are", by Chris Hanson and Hendrika Sonnenberg. South Battery Pier, near Bishop’s Landing, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada
is the name of the diptych in the front. The one urinating in the harbour at the back is called Fountain - Marcel Duchamp reference intended.
They do light up at night
Hanson and Sonnenberg have made three sculptures using street lamps doing some particularly “human” things.
The work of Hanson and Sonnenberg is often hauntingly humorous and regularly transforms familiar objects in unusual ways. Central to the artists’ collaborative process is a sense of “agreement” which frequently begins with the presentation of a situation that the artists’ hope a spectator may be sympathetic with.
