The Golf Ball, in Kinross-shire, Scotland, is a now-inactive NATO spy base – or Intercontinental Ballistic Missile early-warning radar – built on the former Second World War airfield, RAF Balado Bridge, where Polish pilots trained on Hurricanes and Spitfires.

This former NATO base and ballistic missile warning radar built in 1985. Dubbed the Golf Ball for its white fibreglass dome, which housed a giant antenna, the 9-acre site is just 20 miles south of Edinburgh, and is being marketed as an adaptive reuse or redevelopment project for residential or commercial purposes. The radome is linked to the main equipment building by a corridor and doors built with enough concrete to withstand a nuclear, biological, chemical attack or even a zombie attack. Also included is the station mess, recreation and office facilities. The site could be completely redeveloped, or the existing structures could be put to new uses.

Opened by Princess Anne in 1985, the white fibreglass protective radome contains a large dish antenna which is still intact and could be rotated and elevated to point in any direction.

It was manned by soldiers from the Royal Corps of Signals until 2006.

The 6.12-acre site comes with a level of security that anybody purchasing a former Ministry of Defence owned satellite communications base would expect.

The entire compound is surrounded by a burglarproof double-layered security fence.

The golf ball is connected to the main equipment building by a corridor and has doors built to withstand a nuclear, biological or chemical attack.

The complex contains an additional emergency power generator room and an accommodation block which once housed the station mess, recreation, and office space.

There are also garages, diesel tanks and a sizeable guardhouse, with facilities including a kitchen and toilet.

RAF Balado Bridge was in use from March 1943 until 1957 and served as a satellite to Grangemouth as part of 81 Group. It was originally used as a base for Hurricanes and Spitfires during the Second World War and was a training site for Polish pilots.

The unique brutalist Welbeck car park, in Marylebone (close to Oxford Circus), London.

Built in 1971 by Michael Blampied and Partners to serve the flagship Debenhams store on Oxford Street, the car park exterior design is composed of tesselate concrete polygons. In 2017 its demolition was approved by Westminister Council. Campaigners are fighting to prevent it being torn down and replaced by a hotel.

An interesting article about the situation on Spaces.

Excerpt from thespaces.com/ghent-post-office-hotel/:

Ghent hotel 1898 The Post has opened in the upper levels of the city’s former post office, with ‘stamp’, ‘envelope’ and ‘letter’ sized rooms.

Designed by architect Louis Cloquet in 1898, the Neo-gothic building sits at the centre of the city. Its intricate exterior is studded with statues and escutcheons, and includes a 54-metre clock tower. The building ceased to be a post office in 2001, and now hosts a shopping centre and the freshly opened hotel.

Zannier Hotels has converted its two top floors into rooms and suites, using dark green walls and antique furniture to complement the building’s existing historic details – which includes original wooden window frames and floors, and sloping ceilings.

Each room is named to reflect its size, with the smallest ‘stamp’ rooms measuring just 20 sq m. Interior designer Geraldine Dohogne has used brass details, dark wood and linen-covered furniture for the rooms, and marble for the bathrooms – which are also painted in dark shades.

Views over the city’s Saint-Michel bridge can be enjoyed from 1898 The Post’s larger Carriage rooms – which include their own sitting rooms – and at the top of the building, guests can stay in an octagonal room, situated in the building’s south-east tower.

A studio portrait of Amie Marie as the villainess Caesura. Of course (***Spoiler Alert***), originally she was news reporter Betty Bracket (the love interest of Question-Mark Man), before she was kidnapped by the dastardly evildoer...The Full Stop. Obviously, his evil ways corrupted her from the honest values of...er...journalism? In fact, you might say that Betty Bracket became...unhinged? Hinge...bracket...geddit? Jeez, tough audience! ;-)

This is from a studio shoot last night with the entire cast of "The Baffling Adventures of Question-Mark Man" by Bottled Spider. A really fun show about superheroes...and punctuation. What's not to like? :-)

The show runs until Aug 27th.

One of the many "trophy sculptures" created by talented local artist, Dan Painter. For the past three years, he has been working on a collection of sculptures, called The Hunt Room or, The Trophy Room, creating amazing figures from live human models and his own vivid imagination. His vibrant studio, Freedom Theater at "The Space" is located at 2338 Emerson Ave S, St. Petersburg, FL. Visit the studio during the 2nd Saturday Art Walk each month, bring your camera and prepare to be amazed.

I normally like B&W for most people watching shot, but I think you can see why I switched to colour for these!
