You could look on this one as "arty" or "impressionistic"... but in reality it's just blurred. However, the title pretty much says it all. It's a rare record of the only time Ford's two Egyptian girls were ever seen together. The Tate website has a feature about them that actually states that the two are best viewed as a pair. So what has the Tate done since then? It originally put ONE of them back on display and kept the OTHER locked in the vaults. When they finally took the other one out of the vaults they put them in the same room, but at right angles to each other so they have no meaningful spatial relationship. Seriously? An art gallery that doesn't appreciate spatial relationships?? Where are those people's heads at?

One of a couple of close detail shots of The Singer, showing the ornate inlay work on the base of the harp.

I suspect that for some reason these detail shots won't get as many hits as the ones showing the girl's figure, but I believe they're important for establishing the artist's attention to fine detail.

(2020) I was wrong about fewer hits, as the numbers confirm.

Most of the photos in this set emphasise the nude figure, but we shouldn't neglect the workmanship on the pedestal. After all, Ford clearly didn't!

I previously posted a similar view that had a prominent reflection from my black coat on the glass case. This one's a bit better, though you can see a faint reflection of Pomeroy's Nymph of Loch Awe on the right. Seems I previously rejected this version because of the gallery visitor on the left. Back then I suppose I had some idea that the works should be viewed in splendid isolation. More fool me.

If you look closely you'll notice that the girl's hand isn't actually touching the strings. The strings are apparently made of stiff wire and carefully bent into position so that from a distance it looks as if the girl is plucking them.

I think she looks really sad and vulnerable in her glass case.

Somebody's face got reflected over her left arm. No, the face isn't mine - mine had a camera in front of it, remember? I must admit it looks a bit weird, and I suppose if I ever have a few hours to spare I could have a go at cloning it out. For now, though, let's just accept it as one of those crazy things that happen when you're trying to take photos under constrained circumstances.

One of my favourite works, back on display at the Tate after more than four years.

F. W. Pomeroy's The Nymph of Loch Awe is reflected in The Singer's glass case.

Another attempt at portraying 'sisterhood'. For all I know the artist did conceive them as sisters; it's certainly not hard to imagine that Applause is singing and clapping along with Singer. As I've mentioned elsewhere, they were both conceived as standing on tall pedestals, and I have a feeling that they were meant to go side by side rather than opposite each other like this.

I wanted to get a shot of the Singer and her 'sister' in the same frame, but the exhibition's layout didn't make it easy.

From this angle you can clearly see the shape of the harp, which is foreshortened in all the other photos.

I found this hoodoo near the Double Arch at the park. It was so obvious to me that I was surprised it had not been noted with a sign. Other people didn't seem to notice until we pointed it out, and then they immediately saw him. The man has an Elvis pompadour, slicked back. His head is leaning a bit back and his mouth is wide open, possibly singling about the beauty that surrounds him in Arches National Park. He must be a fighter, because his nose is broken.

A great voice , and mix of songs , but does anyone know who she is ?????????

This is the very final photo from my visits to the Tate Britain's New Sculpture exhibition. Appropriately enough... the end.

Finally!

BACKSTORY:

After the Descendents concert at Riot Fest East, there was an after-party concert featuring ALL! Yes, 3 out of 4 of the same band members headed to another venue and did it all again! The second venue was about a mile away from the first venue. According to Google Maps on Carolyn's phone, it would have been an 18-minute walk, but a 5 minute car ride. So we decided to risk the parking situation and drive there. We barely got there in time. It was close to 2 hours to make it that one mile.

When we got there, there was no street parking. We eventually found a spot next to one of those Pod trailers, but when we got out, we noticed there was a temporary sign that said "Temporarily NO STOPPING. Vehicles will be towed" and the dates was 9/24 through 9/26. We did not know what that meant, and we originally thought we'd risk it. When we walked to the main road, there were a couple of cops standing on the corner. Clint asked one of them what "no stopping" meant, and he said, "It's basically 'No parking.' They just want to trick people." Well, that did not put our mind at ease.

We continued to the venue, and asked some dude standing around outside of the venue, and he told us that we shouldn't risk it, because Philadelphia tickets in a heart-beat. He said if you are 1 minute over a 2-hour meter, they will ticket you. So after hemming and hawing, we eventually decided it was probably better not to risk a tow. It'd be absolutely miserable to get out of the concert, only to find out our car was towed. Ugh. So we ran back to our car, pulled out of the spot (and warned a vulture about the parking sign, since our temporary no parking sign, uh, mysteriously disappeared around the time we parked there), and quickly pulled into the closest parking garage. We were in such a rush, that we passed right by the cashier at the garage. Luckily, Clint checked with the exit cashiers, who took care of getting us a ticket so we wouldn't owe $75 for parking in the garage.

The ALL show was great! We got in there right as they were setting up, so we had some time to spare. They started around 1:15 or 1:20am. The setlist was awesome! They chose some good songs.

After the concert, a couple band members were hanging around outside, so we got to meet the guitarist, Stephen Egerton and thesinger, Scott Reynolds.

By the way - Clint caught a frog at the Descendents concert, and had it by the car during the ALL concert. He also tried selling it to people after the Descendents show. And ALL played the song "Frog". About catching a frog and trying to sell it. I'm probably the only ALL fan to try to hock a frog in between a Descendents and ALL show, on the same night ALL played the song Frog :) So yea, we named him Oscar after the frog in Frog.
