Why would a bar owner like Michael G. Thanos want to stick his nose in the early l.a. punk scene? Thanos---a fake name if I ever heard one.
This was the first of two apartments for Kid Spike and me. In 1977, this place was a disgusting urine soaked rathole filled with giant queens with huge silicone tits---along with very scary thugs. They didn't scare Kid Spike however.
As you can see by the pretty girl in Turquoise, it is still a haven for prostitution.
I had a dream here. I dreamt that I awoke to a "blazing sun" and the sound of air raid sirens. The streets were empty, so I wandered for miles until I reached the tall buildings of downtown. There I climbed a building to find The Germs ensconced in a suite surrounded with gourmet food and a cornucopia of consumer items. Lorna Doom extended her arms with her hands full of pearls, jewels and tins of caviar. "Look at all the luxury!" she exclaimed. Then, together we watched a TV set which displayed a broadcast of a parade conducted by the few survivors of the neutron induced disaster. They were frying eggs on Xylophones. Then I awoke.
Our second apartment that Kid Spike and I shared with Charlie Trash. A dismal place. Charlie Trash' big tomcat would get his arse kicked every night by an even more humungous tomcat---a source of misery and huge vet bills that we could not afford.
In January of 1978, my wife Charlie Trash and I got into a fight and she whooped my arse with one of her wooden shoes. Charlie Trash was a tall athletic woman and I was a wee bit young.
Kid Spike was so dismayed by the spectacle that he fired her from The Controllers that night after our last gig at the Cuckoo's Nest in Orange County.
They all took speed that night except for me because I was sickly. They played so fast that I had to turn down my amplifier----the greatest humiliation of my glorious career as a star in the early l.a. punk scene.
The Gold Cup was a chickenhawk coffee shop near The Masque.
This place offended our teenage sensibilities greatly. The Gold Cup was a constant source of conversation for us, but the truth is, The Gold Cup had very little effect upon The Masque.
A minute ago, I remembered something about this place. The denizens of The Gold Cup, young and old always had smiles on their faces and seemed very very happy. As Brendan Mullen reasoned to me, they made the decision to be there---who am I to argue with that?

Taken during the launch party for Controller magazine.
Chris and Wynn being their usual adorable selves.
I had to keep my chin down to keep from looking like I was all neck.
I sewed or altered all the garments here.
And here is my piece for Cory Schmitz's The Controller magazine, created entirely on my iPad. (check out the video here! www.flickr.com/photos/chrisfurniss/5193042344/)
Anyway, the magazine is incredible. Cory has a remarkable talent for layout and he curated some truly excellent artists. I feel so honored and privileged to be in such a cool love letter to one of my favorite things in the world: video games.

The Lobby to The Masque was used in the early Summer. This was where I got into my first fistfight at The Masque. Kid Spike was proud of me.
Chas Gray's Rickenbacher. I'm not actually playing. This was after our(the) first gig at The Masque. A photographer wanted our foto, so I grabbed Chas Gray's Rickebacher. I'm wearing my see thru plastic pants which photographers seemed to like. There were a lot of photographers at that gig, which fueled my ambition greatly!
