A California Grey Whale surfaces and breathes. The captain of the whale watching boat see the spouts and heads for them. The whales stay up for three or four minutes and then dive. You can see the nostrils of this whale and the dissipating condensation from the blow.

Humback whale (Megaptera novaeangliae) with open blow hole just as it spouts near the shoreline, Whale Channel, British Columbia. It is much harder to capture the blowhole of a whale than the tail since you need to anticipate where and when the whale will surface and have your camera pointed in the right direction with the correct settings. If you spend a lot of time watching whales you can start getting better at predicting their behaviour and with a little luck thrown in can get some good head shots as well as tail shots

Pedro The Papillon was originally intended as an agility prospect, however, he has left that ambitious endeavor to the sheltie. Here, Pedro shows what it is that he REALLY wants to do...have his tummy rubbed. I was trying to take his portrait, and, he kept collapsing on my feet, wherever I paused....

Don't even ask me how I did this! I tried to recreate a previous effect with a little more unusual things going on, and I rather like the result. It's kind of graphic and kind of old world at the same time. What do you think?

water is central to the lives of the Tharis because of its scarcity. in the last 4 years the government has made a string of such watering points every few kilometers. these along with new roads are now transforming the region.
