Thar desert near Jaisalmer

Thar Desert also known as Great Indian Desert,

On the ferry back to the mainland from Newfoundland we saw 3 or 4 whales.

I didn't even yell "thar she blows!"

They were along way off and there isn't enough detail to identify the species.

Off to the Cabot Trail tomorrow - Monday? We don't really keep track.

Photos from Thar Desert near Pakistan Border, India

Humpback whale exhaling through the blowhole on top of it's head. This was an interesting day when my wife and I went out on the whale watching boat. It was a cool cloudy day so the whale boat was far from full which made my day easier not having to jostle along the railings to get a spot. Also there was a strong wind which produced very choppy waves which got several people with weaker stomachs heaving over the rails even though they offer free Dramamine at the beginning of the trip but there were enough people who never have been a boat in rough seas in their lives. The rough seas made getting a good shot harder as the boat was constantly bobbing up and down which necessitated a decently high enough shutter speed. Still didn't get that coveted breach shot of a humpback that I keep hopping for. Hopefully the next time I make it to the West Coast I take a couple whale watching tours and my luck will be better.

We planned on going to the launch site itself (or somewhere closer) but the line of vehicles on the single lane road to the site was reported to be two miles long so we decided to just watch the launch from Satellite Beach. Sadly, even with an 800mm lens, this is the best I could get. There's an official launch video in the link below.

'Tis not every day we get to holler "Thar she blows!" while contemplating bird and/or ship traffic off Dallas Road. The blow in this case is that of a humpback whale.

The Thar Desert, also known as the Great Indian Desert or Marusthali, is a large, arid region in the northwestern part of the Indian subcontinent that forms a natural boundary between India and Pakistan.

Another photo with great 3D water "effect" captured by accident. Hand-held shot, no effects used.

This shows a bud of the Victoria Amazonica coming to the surface. Note the spikes on the bottom of the lily pad and on the bud. These are for protection. Note also the V-shaped notch on the lily pad. Each one has a couple of these for natural drainage. Mother Nature thinks of everything.

Since it's "talk like a pirate day" weekend (yeah, apparently that's a thing) I guess another pirate build is in order.

This is another remake of an older build. The Skinny Basterd, Black Booty and Former Captain Bubba (yeah he lost the rank due to the name) are back to wreak havoc today.
