Todays Fifth of the month theme was "mostly white or mostly black". Here is my citrus trees leaves, in the dark shade with some of the frosty dew drops. Happy Sliders Sunday

To keep the leaves colourful you can dry them further on paper. For Mosaic Montage Monday theme of Torn Paper. A montage of a couple of TextureLabs paper and coloured textures plus my own image of the drying autumnal leaf. After all paper is made from plants! HMMM

I just got back last night from a few days in Tasmania at Launceston and St Helens/Bay of Fires. The weather was generally very good with a couple of misty rainy days and the rest clear and crisp. The golden sunset at St Helens was beautful to watch. A montage of 2 photos with a grunge TextureLabs overlay. HMMM :)

Using the Texturelabs process that Andrew alerted me to I have been able to get this image. The news is not great at the moment and has not been for a while. texturelabs.org/tutorials/collage-effect-in-photoshop/. #ThroughHerLens

I probably should have uploaded this one Sunday for Slider Sunday. A white Osteospermum daisy rendered with layers of newspaper and colours as per the TextureLabs collage technique. Check out their tutorials: texturelabs.org/tutorial/

At the back of the NGV (National Gallery of Victoria) is a relatively small sculpture park with water features, grassy areas and this colourful columnar structure with a large blocky semi human dark figure in the centre. The coloumns are various shades of bright colours and some have leaf motifs. At Crown Casino, a short walk away are some white marble like columns reflecting on the floor. So for Montage Mosaic Monday here are the various columns found on a wander around the Melbourne CBD. Using my Lensbaby Sweet 50 to give that dreamy look.

This is a montage of the recent sunset with outlined clouds plus the silhouetted outline of a min-Eiffel Tower structure with windvane chicken from the St Kilda Community Garden.

All we get in the news these days is just an outline of what is happening. HMMM

Parts of the North bank of the Yarra have a rather grungy feel. This is one area near Sea Life Aquarium. One of the grassy areas (Enterprise Park) seems to be a favourite place for homeless people. The overpass for the Metro System is seem clearly here . A bit of grunge texture from TextureLabs. HFF

Batman, Swanston and Hoddle are the "three businessmen who brought their own lunch" and are whimsical sculptures on the corner of Bourke Street Mall and Swanston Street. It is hard to get a photo without a member of the public posing and it is impossible to get one full lenght without going perilously close to being run over by traffic of all sorts. Except if you are further across the other side of the road. A black and white treatment with TextureLab texture. With the FFM on Saturday evening.

A nice traditional sort of still life — old, richly patinated pewter is such a great material to photograph — it interacts with light so beautifully, taking on the tones of the environment and lighting. The stone background is added digitally, by masking around all the items, and partially masking through the glass, to achieve a believable transparency effect. The original background is a 50% grey vinyl sheet — this allows a texture to be put over it, using 'overlay' blend mode, and have that texture take on the colours, light and shadows that are in the scene. My Mother died in 2010. In 2022 I dreamt that I literally collided with my Mother in an open-air marketplace somewhere in Europe. We fell to the ground and I cradled her in my arms. I was so happy to see her. I excitedly told her I had a room and that she could come and stay with me--and that I also had a vehicle so we could travel together. She told me no, that she had to stay with her own group and that's when I awakened. Unlike other parts of the east coast of Australia, these clouds portended rain but didn't deliver anything other than a hint of moisture in the air.

The BOM is predicting some rain today, but often it is very localised. It would be very welcome. Image rendered in high contrast black and white with a TextureLabs frame. HSS

PS The rain has come along with thunderstorms! Yeh!

The Doric columns in the temple of Aphaia on the island of Aegina shows how the ancient Greeks were very familiar with the idea of alignment. But in nature the cracks in a large, old stump also show a radial alignment, shown using a TextureLabs texture.

The last few weeks have seen an escalation in threats of violence to colleagues in local government due to objections to a library event. While I won't comment on the event itself it was disgusting to see the level of violence and threats to local government leaders, library staff and specialist performer for the event. My career as a librarian has seen a rise in the number of people using libraries as safe havens. Places where they can sit and quietly read, contact their relatives and learn about digital and other resources. To see this diversity of use threatened by people who misuse the term 'freedom' for their own violent political ends is extremely worrying. Victoria Police advised cancelling the event as the staff, families and children could not be protected. Why should we need police protection? So what do we do with these threats??

A montage using an AI generated image and a couple of my own. As well as a TextureLab texture.

It''s all about the numbers and where they fall! After the Federal Election last week I decided to visit the Prime Ministers at Ballarat Botanic Gardens (busts mounted on columns). The 27th Prime Minister was Julia Gillard and the 28th was her nemesis Tony Abbott, who rolled back her working and useful climate change policies, setting us back another decade,

The big numbers voting this last federal election 1 week ago shows how Australian women and others thought about those sort of policies.

4,562,490 people voted for the Coalition with a -5.8% swing. 4,138,699 voted for Labor with a -0.57% swing. 1,481,269 voted for the Greens, an increase of 1.33%. 4.85 and 4.05% voted for One Nation and United Australia Party (Clive Palmer). Mostly in Queensland! The big news were the Independents - 688,391 votes and the seats they took from Liberal stalwarts.www.theguardian.com/australia-news/ng-interactive/2022/ma.... 147th MMM BIRDS Challenge

While I wasn't in Australia when Prime Minister Gough Whitlam and his government was sacked it is interesting to look back at the politics of the era and the problems our democratic systems faced then and now.

After 20 years of Conservative Government the Australian public decided "ït's time" and voted in a Labour Government with a radical agenda.

Medicare, free University Education, no fault divorce and I'm sure other changes were embraced and have survived to a smaller/larger degree.

In New Zealand I received a free University Education, was paid a princely sum of $15 a week to go to University and moved to Australia some years later. I have benefitted from Medicare, other education and Superannuation which has enriched both my life plus the coffers of the Australian Government through taxation and pension savings.

The other effect of education is hopefully better health, media literacy and engagement with the issues of our current times.

It's time that the Conservative Parties realize their ideological dislike of Climate Change and the economic challenges/opportunities presented by this issue are a huge problem in the wider electorate Or else, like that past era, they flounder into irrelevancy.

The photo is a montage of a free Old Parliament House image from the State Library Photo collection, my own photo of flowering gorse from NZ, plus a newspaper Texturelab texture. Plus a bit more stuff.

In this scene, the electricity in the old doll factory has been shut off. An abandoned doll sits powerless against the wall, while a friend works to revive her using the company’s forgotten steam fire engine. With a spanner in hand and a toolbox at her side, she seeks an alternative energy source for renewal. The work reflects resilience, ingenuity, and the determination to restore what has been cast aside, contrasting fragile human-like figures with the strength of industrial machinery.
